Bill Maher is a comic and sometimes his remarks are quite caustic, but so are Joan Rivers, Don Rickles and many others. The difference is Maher hits the "poitical"nail on the head too often and is a target for right wing spokespersons.
His last show "Politically Incorrect" was cancelled because of right wing pressure based on a remark he made about some Iraqis being patriots or heroes. I don't believe all Iraqis are born terrorists, no proof has ever surfaced that they were in anyway responsible for 9/11.
I agree with Maher that when people defend their homeland from invaders, they are in fact patriots and heroes.
He can also be enlightening, I saw a recent show where he interviewed a former democratic congressman, who along with John McCain (R-AZ) passed a bill that limited the amount of money any individual or corporation could legally contribute to a political candidate. Maher brought up the fact that our Supreme Court killed that
bill. Do you beleive you or I, or anyone we know personally can collectively match the donations of Exxon, Halliburton or anyother corporations? The playing field is no longer level, it's decidely slanted in favor of big corporations who want to gain or retain grants, exemptions, tax loopholes etc. We really will have the best government money can buy! How many more millions does the Walton family still need when so many average Americans are having a tough time keeping a roof over their heads and food on the table? I must have been under a rock, but it was Bill Maher who opened my eyes to yet another injustice and a strike against the middle class.
Think about the effectivenes and cost of Superbowl commercials and that is what we shall be experiencing
I watch him as often as I can and he has also taken shots at liberals, democrats and Obama. I have yet to hear of any of them getting their panties in a wad over his remarks.
If you don't like him or his humor or his politics, just change the channel, it's one of the few equal opportunities we still have.
