It is funny that in my own experience, I find women much more accepting of the idea of more complex and fluid gender identification.
A lot of this may be because girls are not put down for being tom-boys, while boys are treated unmercifully if they are sissies.
It must have something to do with males being threatened by the idea that all their maleness does not reside in their penis.
