Breaking: Antonin Scalia has Died.

Re: Supreme Court Justice ANTONIN SCALIA dies at 79 years old

breaking news...

This will drive home the consequences of elections. I expect any Obama nominations to be stonewalled...

I can guarantee that wont happen. The American people will not have the GOP's back if they try to fuck with any court justice nominees. The GOP is as screwed as it has always been.

Lindsey Graham is on MSNBC right now saying he would stab his colleagues in the back saying if Obama tries to override GOP filibusters they will hold him to higher standard than they did Bush.

I think the senate operates under the nuclear option now, meaning it will only take 50 senators to break a flilbuster on judicial nominations. If the senate, McConnell, doesnt go along with it, the political price would be incredibly high for them because Americans wont allow it.

I hope Obama nominates Lawrence Lessig for the court, the anti-citizens united decision candidate.

The biggest threat to a new court justice is establishment democrats.

This is NOT good news to the Repukes.

All three branches of government are in play this year.

There can never be a more important election in American history, no matter how many future centuries elapse.

Re: Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia Dead

The passing of this firebrand will change the tone of the court for good, no matter who replaces him.

Scalia has had a huge, profoundly negative impact on the Supreme Court.

Scalia was nominated by Reagan, who also nominated Robert Bork (which nomination was famously rejected by the Senate).

It interests me that Scalia and Bork seem ideologically to have been so similar. I wonder that Scalia was confirmed (1985), but Bork not (rejected 1987). I cannot imagine the impact on the court over the past few decades of "two" Scalias.

Lol--yeah he's going to nominate Lessig---you really live in a bubble out there---did you also think when the gop shut down the government a few years ago that they would never win a majority back and then of course right after that they won in a landslide?
They will ABSOLUTELY try to block him for almost a year---they already said they would---and they will pay no price for this---they pay no price for anything they do that is crazy---their two top presidential contenders are crazy and crazier---name one crazy thing they did that cost them a recent election? They run most of the country locally and on a national level---so why you think it''s about to go socialist is funny to me---it will still be a close election that the gop can win.

Get obstruction all the way past the elections, and get a Republican president, and we may need to imagine a Supreme Court with FOUR new Scalias.

The future of the United States in the crosshairs of fully-loaded military equipment (and I hope ONLY figuratively), ready to fire upon it and destroy it.

Getting accused of living in a bubble from a Hillary supporter, who is the personification of establishment politicians, is not surprising. Go vote for your candidate, she just loaded up on superpac money.

CNN is reporting that Obama WILL put up a nominee, but no word yet on who that will be.

As I posted above, most analysts are speculating it will be Sri Srinivasan.

No idea who he is, but it seems i should be glad he's dead.

Re: Supreme Court Justice ANTONIN SCALIA dies at 79 years old

Obama will, as always appoint by affirmative action, with black or Hispanic. Probably Hispanic, since they are a larger voting group and it may anger Hispanics if the Republicans do not confirm him. Obama would probably like the job for himself, possibly by delaying the appointment in the hope of a democrat being elected President. Probably not. Certainly he will want an activist judge who will ignore the Constitution and impose the liberal agenda by authoritarian decree. The remnant of the Constitution cannot survive a fifth liberal.

OMG. The blessing of the sound of silence. Let the dead bury their dead in the valley of dry bones.

McConnell says that the nomination should be left to the next president.
Yes, of course, when it suits them, Repugs ALWAYS think that they should make people do what they want, even if it violates the Constitution.

He is both telling Obama that he should not fulfill his Constitutional mandate...and that, if he does, the McConnell Senate majority will abandon THEIR constitutional instructions that they vote on a new nominee.

But, with them, it's ALWAYS this mantra when deciding whether to follow the constitution: "Republicans good, Democrats bad."

Something about guns being constitutional, likewise for executions, but gay marriage and immigration being un-American.

I wonder if the Phelps coven will be picketing his funeral?

He was one of the four that voted no I believe.

I'm also shocked and aghast at all of you. Yes this man was very homophobic, but he was still a supreme court judge. Show some fucking respect.

I come from a place where actions are judged over position.

Hitler was the leader of the Third Reich and just about conquered the world.

Scalia also deserves no respect.

He was a hypocrite and despite all the noise, a very sloppy and dangerous jurist.

His opinions on many cases surely rank as the greatest abuse of position of any Justice in the history of the United States.

Sorry, but for the lasting damage that he helped unleash in the US...this man gets no respect from me and I am glad that he's finally off the bench.

I second that. I live in Africa and in Utah, so I've had more than enough of tin-pot dictators, self-proclaimed prophets arbitrary judges, theocracies and guys who became president for life - twice.
