Britney Spears's New Album Gets Beaten By The Eagles In The US

But why? Why is it like a football team? Most folks cheer for a football team because they went to that college or because they're from that city (or surrounding area), and thus feel a weird sense of local pride when "their" team does well. I don't quite see the parallel.

And even so, when a team starts doing poorly, the fanbase starts eroding. Some call that "fairweathering", but as my friend pointed out, "These athletes, coaches, and teams get paid a lot of money. If they want part of my paycheck, I'd like to see results." In short, he's not going to shell over $25 to see a hockey team that always gets its butt kicked. And that's totally understandable.

If anything, "fairweathering" provides incentive for the performer to do well. If everyone's gonna buy tickets to the hockey games no matter what, why bother fielding a good team? Why bother trading up, or even practicing? The fans will be there anyway, right?

And so it goes with musicians. She's got a fanbase - cool. She should be working on building it further, or at least working on retaining it. If fans announce "We'll support you in whatever you do", she can think, "Fine, whatever, I don't have to bother trying to do well."

If I can continue the sports-Britney analogy, I'd say "Blackout" was a win. But a really close one. Her producers and wranglers have gone far beyond the call of duty on this one, taking what should've been an absolute wreck of an album and making it passable. But when a football team wins 3-0, the credit shouldn't go to the quarterback (Britney) - it should go to the defense. :)

you do have a point as well.

honestly i'm more supportive for the guys/gals that went and wrote and produced and everything for this album to even see the light of day. Cause with the way she was headed..Brit was gonna be in the loony bin or in jail. I'll see how it goes for her in the future though and keep an open mind.

Britney was never really an artist from the beginning. She's more like a product.
Look at her fist video. Dressed up as a school girl dancing provokatively. That's like the ultimate school boys and perverted old men fantasy. She was just lucky to have one catchy tune. That's why she always lip synch in all her concert.
Record company only care how many CD they can sell. We have the technology to make anybody sound good. Heck, even Paris Hilton has a CD out. I think American teenagers taste in music has sunk to an all time low the day Paris Hilton had CD out.

Doesnt mind were she ended up on a chart.

If you like it then you do and if not you dont.

I personally like 2 on it, and that Piece Of Me is goood! :D

It does if you're a fanatic or a hater.

That song cracked me up. While listening to it, my friend said, "You want a piece of meat?" After that, that's all I could hear. :)

She may not rule America, but she rules Europe.

On Billboard's pan-European Top 100 Albums sales chart, Britney Spears' "Blackout" (Jive/Zomba) held off both the Eagles and Eros Ramazzotti's "E2" (Ariola) to debut at No. 1.

Was this said before or after 90% of Broadway hits consisted of "based on the hit songs of (performer)?"

Hey, Latoya Jackson was a big hit in Europe too.

And David Hasslehoff.

And even Piz Zadora.

that's gotta count for something.

And Europeans are usually so quick to talk about how much better their taste in music is...

"The Ladies' Bras" is a song by Jonny Trunk and Wisbey. At 36 seconds, it is the shortest song ever to enter the UK charts reaching number 27 in September 2007. Coincidentally, it took this record just a few weeks after the song "Spider Pig" had taken it. Previously, the record for shortest charting single had lasted since 1961. It became popular after it was played on a UK podcast show, reaching #70 in the UK singles chart with 1,644 sales and no national airplay.[1] It was introduced by Danny Baker, on his All Day Breakfast Show podcast, and then later picked up by Scott Mills who campaigned to get it in the charts by asking guests in his show including McFly and Dannii Minogue to sing it live on air. It became available for download on services such as iTunes and Wippit only and had no music video.[2]

meh...these things happen. People can be a little eccentric! There may be a lot of good music in Europe but there are also a lot of people buying awful stuff!

haha I bought Latoya's single Sex Box back in the day for like 2 bucks because I thought it was hilarious...it was really bad though. I think David Hasselhof was mainly popular in Germany (just like The Kelly Family *cringe*) and I only know Pia Zadora from that duet with Jermaine Jackson. But yeah, a lot of crappy artists make it big here...they never really last long though.

anyway, I think the Eagles are at #2 in the charts now over here and Britney is at like #20...but I don't know about the rest of Europe.
