But I'm with Soil. I've heard every last thing about the Britney CD - the original release date, the push back, the pull up. I was told to "get ready" for Britney's amazing comeback on the VMAs several days before it happened, and told not to miss it whatever I did. And even when I DID miss it, I didn't, because people kept talking about it afterwards. (The only touch of brilliance to this entire endeavor.)

I found out about the Eagles CD three days after it came out.

Fan, it should be pointed out, is short for "fanatic". As in slavish devotion to a person or cause, regardless of the situation.

I'm a fan of several musicians. But I don't feel the need to "stand up" for them when slings and arrows are tossed their way. I'm a huge Prince fan, for instance. But when he changed his name to a symbol, or sued his fan clubs for using his likeness without his permission, or put out "New Power Soul", I didn't defend his actions. Not because I'm not a "real fan", but because his actions didn't warrant defending. Changing his name to a symbol was stupid (even though I know what he was aiming at), suing his fan club was wrong on every level, and I didn't even buy that crap album. That didn't make me "not a fan" - it just made me a rational human being capable of making my own decisions. Prince earned my respect by releasing a ton of great material, but he lost some of it doing those other things. Britney presumably earned your respect by putting out some songs you thought were great - cool deal. But it shouldn't be a free lifetime pass. You don't have to keep buying her albums if you're not really happy with them, and you shouldn't have to defend her actions if they're not good ones (and, let's face it, many of them have not been). You can be a fan and not defend or attempt to explain away her every move. And yes, if you love Blackout, cool deal - keep playing it. But understand that not everyone is going to feel that way, and her actions as of late have not been the type to make people more inclined to give her a break.

For what it's worth, The Eagles entered the charts at #1 in Australia, and Britney had to settle for the #3 position. Delta Goodrem was #2.

It's been fun reading these posts. People get so worked up about this. But it's only music after all. I hope the music biz continues to produce BOTH The Eagles and Britney. It's all good. Best of luck to both acts, I say.

no your still definaly a fan ... im obsessed .. but im truthfully ( i always say shes gonna make it trough this) but really i have no clue & im scared because she is & always will be one of my favorite acts & i wanna see her down with a fight , not like this...

Now also , i do have things i dont stand 100% behind but because i am her fan , i just try to see the positive in what she does that isnt 100% right. Journey's escape went platinum SOO many times.. thriller did... Blondie went platinum.. every carpenters album except voice of the heart and lovelines (last two when she was dead) all went gold or Platinum. Why? Because they were real. People knew how to tape records to tape off their friends... we had limewire and kazaa.. they STILL had ways of getting free music and stealing off he artist.. and the quality on the tape was the VERY same on LP if you used the right tape deck. Quit making excuse and admit shes fucked
