you guys can't admit that this album actually sold.
IN THE ZONE did sell 609,000 in the first week!

but WAKE UP its 2007 not 2003
the record industry is falling deeply because of online downloading
& if you sell 100,000 in the first week & it wuld be considered a sucess.

NEXT TOPIC , The Eagles are of course gonna out sell her by alot for many many reasons::

1- This is they're first album in 27 YEARS!!! (many people (Older) are going to the store & buying it)
2- This album is country. Most of Country fans (older people) buy cds & dont download music online. (so thats why all of a sudden country sales are the hottest sales & hip-hop & pop & rnb & rock sales are dropping)
3- Britneys album was leaked so alot of her fans or people who are intrested in the album prob. just got it offline.

I THINK IT IS SOOO UNFAIR THAT THEY NOW "DECIEDED" TO ALLOW THIS ALBUM TO CHART ON THE BILLBOARD 200. I believe this only because i know if britneys album was only available in Wal-Mart reltailers & the Eagles sold 290,000 & she sold 700,000+ copies they wouldn't change these rules for her!!! THIS JUST SHOWS HOW SOOOOOO MANY PEOPLE ARE OUT TO GET HER AND THEY KNEW IF THEY DIDN'T LET THE EAGLES' CHART SHE WOULD BE NUMBER 1!!!!!! & THEY DONT WANNA SEE HER WIN!!!!!!

Oh please. If she'd sold more copies, she would also have been #1. Maybe people aren't buying records anymore because the records suck?

People have been openly downloading and stealing content for over 10 years. Once high-speed connections became the norm, Napster, Kaazza and Limewire were de rigeur on every teenager's computer.

Pink's new album has moved 6 MILLION copies anyway.

blaming downloading for her album tanking just isn't accurate. The reason that hip hop and Pop aren't being bought in high numbers anymore is that the music is so flavour-of-the-week that the kids can't afford to keep up.

Downloading is the only way to keep up.. it's not like anyone actually LIKES that music.

You mean worldwide? I'm not even sure it sold a million in the US.

The industry IS dying. Just a few weeks ago the #1 album only sold 70k.
 
Pink is platinum in the US, saw the triangle symbol on a Billboard chart recently, but just 1X platinum.

The Eagles CD may have also landed at #1 on the Country Charts but the entire CD is not country, there are plenty of tracks more in the style of Hotel California and The Long Run but it does target an older audience, myself included, who are more apt to buy the CD than download it.

I'm not defending Britney fans but few CDs have the huge first weeks sales that we were used to in the past, only Kanye has had a bigger 1st week in 07 than Eagles just did.
 
Meh. I don't feel like searching for it, but I saw that on Billboard.com, actually while checking out the recent charts. I was kinda surprised, too.

Then again, I was blown away that Bon fucking Jovi sold a million copies of their last album too.

The industry IS dying.. but that's because the albums suck.. My whole life the industry has been bemoaning that they're being kiled by home taping and downloading and then N*Sync turns around and sells a million copies of their album in the first week. People will buy records if they're worth buying.
 
That was back in 2000 or so, the industry wasn't doing bad then. People were just overdramatic about downloads. I can't even think of an album that sold 2 million copies this year.
 
Daughtry has moved over 3 million copies since it was released about a year ago.
Bon Jovi has shifted to Adult Contemporary/Country, which represents the age and taste that their original fans have become, a market that still buys CDs.
 
I copied albums to cassette in the 70's too but the number of sales lost is minimal in comparison to what happens today with digital downloading.

Ok, well let's go this way, then..

It's a good thing that kids have killed shiity music by not buying it and instead downloading it.

The older crowd has shown they're happy to buy albums by bands like The Eagles, Bruce Springsteen and Bon Jovi.. let's hope that we'll see more support for those records and fewer albums by pop tarts who don't contribute music to music but make public spectacles of themselves. If that much promotion can't help Britney Spears out-sell an album by a band that hasn't released anything in 27 years and was only available in one store..
 
But she didn't promote, except ONE performance that backfired. That's why 300k is great, regardless of next week's decline. If she ever takes her career seriously again and does damage control, it will be interesting to see how she'll do.

I'd go as far as saying Wal Mart's promotion was more intense than Britney's idea of promotion.

I didn't see much about the Eagles record but I saw LOTS of promotion about the Britney album... you couldn't get away from it. Every time you turned around there was another Britney story and another bit about her album.

That gimme gimme song is playing everywhere. I still haven't heard anything from the Eagles record.

Face it... Britney Spears did just fine considering she's kinda past-it and her album isn't that great. Whining that she didnt' get some meaningless chart position isnt' going to change much. If they promote the album well and there are good songs on it, it'll sell in the long run...
 
yeah, they had that in Palm Springs and West Hollywood, too. Looked stupid.

Gimme More didn't do that well on radio actually. Maybe your radio station plays it a lot but generally it wasn't that big on radio, just iTunes.

Jive made sure to send out commercials and stuff like that but that's promotion no one cares about. It's not redeeming like interviews, performances and photoshoots she could've done. Minus the performance that just backfired, she did absolutely nothing. That's bad for any artist, let anyone someone who's become a tabloid queen.

The video was directed by a nobody, by the way. It was his first video or something.
 
Someone has posted this Video in Heart (the band ) thread. This song was originally released in the late 70's I believe and her voice is still amazing.
and Britney can't even sing live and her fans still can't see that she's a fake.
