Britney Spears's New Album Gets Beaten By The Eagles In The US

....Am not surprised, Britney is good at what she does,

Yes she does, Parading around with no panties. The girl can't sing live in concert. The only time her Microphone is on is when she said Hello and Goodbye. All her voice was digital enhanced and they're all written by somebody else. Eagles on the other hand does everything themselves Write, produce, sing and play their own instruments.

By the way They are the number 1 in UK not Britney. Britney only sold half of what she sold on her last CD in the first week. That means the other half has grown up and more educated. Enjoy it while it last. she won't be in the charts long. Don't blink your eyes or you'll miss her fallen of the top Ten.(!)

The fair thing to do might be to check back in 6 months and see who has sold more copies and see how long each CD stays on the charts. Debut week sales are not always an indicator of the long-term success a label strives for.

I'm playing Long Road Out of Eden as we speak and really am enjoying it.

It'll be pretty surprising if the Eagles manage to outsell Britney first-week, at least to me. Because I couldn't go hardly anywhere (and certainly not here to JUB) without being reminded that Britney had an album out on October 30th. But I wasn't even aware that the Eagles had released an album.

Ends up it won't matter anyway. From billboard.com:

Britney Spears looks to have a clear path to top The Billboard 200.

First-day sales from the eight chains that report to Nielsen SoundScan's Building Charts put Spears' Jive/Zomba release "Blackout" at 124,000 on the report released today (Oct. 31).

That is more than double the number of units posted by Carrie Underwood's chart-topping "Carnival Ride," which rounded up 49,000 sales from the start of the tracking week through close of business yesterday. That album is currently in the runner-up position.

[...]

The Building Charts also seem to confirm that the nation's biggest seller, Wal-Mart, will not report sales on its U.S. exclusive, the Eagles' "Long Road Out of Eden," as that much-anticipated album is missing from the Wednesday list. Wal-Mart usually blocks its proprietary titles from appearing on Top Comprehensive Albums, as was the case with its Garth Brooks exclusives.

And what exactly do people expect to happen? :)

If Blackout remains near the top of the chart, her fans will state it's proof of the album's amazingness, whereas the haters will claim it's the public getting duped yet again.

If Blackout drops quickly, the haters will display it as proof that Britney is over, whereas her fans will argue that it just shows that the public is buying into the "I hate Britney" hype and ignoring the best album of the year (dancing bananas).

Was in both Sprawlmart and Sam's Club and they had huge displays but very few copies left in stock.

Ealges has been around for awhile and most of their fans are probably in the 40's or 50's and they can afford to buy their CD's. Britney's fans are mostly young teen who don't even have a part time job, with gas price over three dollars a gallon, movie over 10 dollars per admission. It doesn't take a genius to figure it out for these kids to either download the album illegally or make copy of your friend's CD. Most poeple who actually bought her CD are probably die hard fan. We'll see if she can still sell like her first week. Carrie Underwood sold over 500000 copies in her first week. That's almost doulbe of what Britney CD sold.

xwings, you seem to have missed the second part of that, in which I said the Eagles are on a whole different world.

And the Eagles fans are spread out. Yes, they have alot of older fans, but they have alot of younger fans too.

It seems a little farfetched that the eagles will sell more albums than britney, when only walmart and sams club carries their album, but we'll just have to wait and see

No need to wait and see... they've done it. They've sold nearly twice as much as Britney Spears. They're not eligeble for the chart, but Britney's album will forever have a * next to it pointing out that her record wasn't REALLY the number 1 album that week.

And I'll be willing to bet that her album will die a quick death and the Eagles album will continue to sell.

Revised Chart Policy Lands Eagles At No. 1
The Eagles
November 06, 2007, 8:30 PM ET
Mitchell Peters, L.A.
The Eagles' first new studio album in 28 years, "Long Road Out of Eden," takes a short route to No. 1 on The Billboard 200 after Billboard revised a significant chart policy today (Nov. 7).

In consultation with Nielsen SoundScan, Billboard will now allow exclusive album titles that are only available through one retailer to appear on The Billboard 200 and other charts, effective with this week's charts. Prior to this, proprietary titles were not eligible to appear on most Billboard charts.

Early SoundScan numbers have the Eagles taking the top perch on The Billboard 200 with 711,000 copies sold, with most sales moved by Wal-Mart and Sam's Club stores. For now, the only other U.S. outlets carrying "Eden" are walmart.com, where both physical copies and downloads are sold, and the Eagles' own Web site.

"Eden" became available at the mass-market chain Oct. 30. Aside from two compilations, this is the Eagles' first album since the mostly live "Hell Freezes Over," which led The Billboard 200 for two weeks in 1994.

Britney Spears' new Jive album, "Blackout," which would have been No. 1 had the Eagles' data not been reported, will open at No. 2 with first-week sales of 290,000 copies.

"We know that some retailers will be uncomfortable with this policy, but it was inevitable that Billboard's charts would ultimately widen the parameters to reflect changes that are unfolding in music distribution," says Geoff Mayfield, Billboard's director of charts. "We would have preferred to make this decision earlier, but only became aware within the last 24 hours that Wal-Mart would be willing to share the data for this title with Nielsen SoundScan."

The revised policy initially impacts The Billboard 200 and Top Country Albums, where "Eden" will also bow at No. 1. Criteria for the remainder of Billboard's albums charts will be formulated later this week. A handful of other titles will debut this week on The Billboard 200 as a consequence of the policy revision.

Previously, titles that were not generally available at retail were not eligible to appear on The Billboard 200, but were entitled to chart on Billboard's Top Comprehensive Albums, which includes catalog titles and proprietary albums from retailers willing to report those sales.

The comprehensive chart will continue to appear on Billboard.biz, to show how catalog titles compete with the overall market. However, once parameters for the remainder of the album charts are determined, Top Comprehensive Music Videos will be discontinued, as exclusive titles will then be eligible for the Nielsen SoundScan-fed Top Music Videos.

BRITNEY GETS OWNED BY MEN OLD ENOUGH TO BE HER GRANDFATHERS.

film at 11 (of her doing drugs.)

Oh well.. Better luck next time, Britney. Maybe you can be sober and sing good songs next time?

Its official Britney's album will debut at #2 on billboard, billboard changed its policy on Wal-mart exclusives today and it will count the Eagles as the #1 album with 700,000 sold. Oh well, Britney didn't deserve it anyway.

To be honest, I've heard the new Britney album and I agree it's 100% #2.

And big, stinking pile of #2.

(if you listen really close, the kick drum is just a digital sample of someone beating a dead horse.)

Britney's hardcore fans are gonna be mad.

It shows you how some, not all, of her fans really are: they just care if she has #1 albums or huge hits.

As a haristylist, Britney's weave makes me want to cry.

Her voice makes me want to kill myself.
