Brothers & Sisters

He's realistic if the character is actually a negative and jaded gay lawyer who's really not that bright outside the office. I like the character, he's fun, but I wouldn't want him as a lawyer or even really in a one on one chat (fine in a group.)

I think my main issue is the writers and not the character, it's the way he is being written.

Example: He's a lawyer and lawyers get details. He goes on a date and the first thing he does is ramble on and on about politics? Bitchy right out of the gate. He doesn't ask any "get to know ya" questions? PLUS! In last nights episode he planned an engagement party in under a week. Yet in the beginning of the season he couldn't even get his mother's surprise party right? Weak!

He's talking to a blackmailer on behalf of a US Senator (like that isn't a huge weak storyline to begin with) and he has sassy one liners and witty threats? I kept waiting for Kitty to say Ummm, Kev? Can we play really lawyer here and not pretend you're on Boston legal?

He sees the hottie priest/brother/trick #127 at the party and he just starts in being cuntie? Then goes from cuntie to "you want me".

AND he's all up on Chad's shit about being out and taking him to a media event and he wouldn't even hold hands with Scotty and kissing in public freaked him out.

The writers are all over the place with this character.

Yet I still watch.

I dislike Kevin's character. I would rather date the closeted actor. He was nicer.

I think regarding Kevin, I'm not doubting he isn't "real". I'm just saying I'm not a fan... am I suppose to like all gay characters on TV?

Yea, a30, of course you are. :p

The one character I don't get any sort of vibe from is Tommy's wife. I'm not sure if she's a poor actor or if I just (forgive the shallowness here) don't like her "look." But she's not clicking with me at all. Balthazar Getty, on the other hand, is one hot man, so...whatever.

And, honestly, could they find worse clothes for those women? Holly's are all a variation-on-a-bad-theme. Sara looked like she was wearing something out of "Kitty Montgomery's" closet. It was a ghastly choice for an attractive woman with a nice figure.

Okay, I've had my queeny moment for the day. I'm off to prepare to watch the hockey game tonite.

I think the problem with Tommy's wife is that she really has no role in the show. She's almost like a useless character.

As for poorly dressed women on tv: check out Ghost Whisperer

So just finished watching the first episode (just started in england).

Didnt understrand what was with that Justin and Kitty, I didnt get that. Something about being at twin towers but on ABC.com it says hes a war verteran??

Now im not sure if its going to be expained later on during series, but I got the feeling that it did explain it but I just didnt understand?

So help please :help:

It started here on Wednesday and I watched the first 2 episodes.

I'm not gripped.

The pilot was rubbish. The first 15 minutes were crammed with so much terrible dialogue I could hardly believe what I was hearing. The ridiculous amount of exposition in every single line everyone was speaking was a lesson in how NOT to write a pilot episode.

The old screenwriting mantra is "SHOW, DON'T TELL". Here it was "TELL TELL TELL"

In the first 5 minutes, Kevin says "Boy that sounded gay even for me". Wow, tell us the character is gay with his first line. Lazy writing.

When Justin says "Its a veterans group for guys who were in Afghanistan like me" to his sister, I cringed. She would already know that. The line should have ended after the word "group". It's only purpose was to spoon-feed the audience all the info in one go.

It actually ruined 2 scenes in episode 2 that could have been great:
* Where Justin breaks down in tears with his mother and explains why he's upset would have been really powerful if we only THEN found out he'd been in Afghanistan.
* Where Kevin's client guessed that he was gay. That could have been fun and interesting for the audience if WE also found out he was gay at that point.

We're not stupid. Let us figure stuff out for ourselves by seeing how the characters act and interact with each other.

Episode 2 was much better overall. I'll give it till episode 6 and decide what to do from there.

Did you guys hear? Wentwortrh Miller is dating the actor who played Scotty!!!!! They are the new outed gay couple in Hollywood!!

Where did you hear this?

Never mind. I just read the thread in "Celebrity Gossip"

I've only seen maybe 3 episodes of this show

but wanted to share my thoughts/guess

I'm assuming that "Saul" is the older guy who was in the Samuel L Jackson movie "The Negotiator"

my IMPRESSION [keep in mind, I've only seen 3 spread-out episodes]:
is that Saul and the friend were in a [secret] relationship
but the friend decided he can't be public with it,
as well as decided that he needed to marry a woman due to pressure/expectations from wherever
and thus "left" Saul
denying his homosexuality to the world and maybe even himself...

that's the vibe I got from that wedding scene (in the season finale?)

I love the show and watched every episode, but you're right, the first episode (the pilot) wasn't very good. The problem was they had already filmed a pilot (with a number of different actors than those who appeared in the final pilot) , the network bought and scheduled the show and then demanded a rewrite and a recast for several actors. I think they only had a few weeks to get this done. After the second pilot was finished (the show's first episode) they decided to makes some changes to the story arcs and the writing. So, as the series went on the writing and acting got better and better. I wouldn't miss it now for anything.

It missed out on Best drama series but hey there are only 5 slots and there is so much good TV.

Congrats to Sally F and Rachael G on their nominations.

Sally should have the Emmy in the bag and not just because she is a 2 time best actress oscar winner.

I would have a nom for Callista over Rachel but I'm still happy that B&S got two nominations.

^Actually, now that I think about it, Callilsta may have been in the running for Best Lead Actress rather than Supporting Actress. Callista was pretty much the main headliner before Field became a last minute replacement for the character of Nora Walker.

I like Callista, but I think Rachael is a much better actress. (Callista seems to be still playing Ally McBeal.) I have a feeling Callista's popularity in Hollywood has sunk a bit in the last few years, but I suspect the real reason she wasn't nominated was that there were so many great roles for women in the last year.

Rachel Griffiths is probably the best actor on the show. Sally Field over does it as always.

I think when actors were so good in their previous role that sometimes it's so hard for us to think of them being anybody else. It will take awhile for the new character to sink in. Rachel was really good in Six feet under and she does an exellent job in this show in my opinion I think everybody did a great job.
I couldn't believe that the one that play gay son Kevin and Rachel are not even American. I would never know if I didn't read about them on the net. They did exellent job with their American accent better than Nicole Kidman. Everytime she speaks with american accent it still sound Australian to me.

It's funny that two actors were in a previous show together " Alias "
Ron Riffkin (Saul) and Balthazar Getty (Tommy) they were enermies in that show and now they're uncle and nephew and these are the same team that made Alias if I read it correctly.

Kitty's Boss- Rob LOWE has been hot since he was in the Brat-Pack - 20 years ago. Jason is quite a hottie - I agree - When the show started - I thought, gee they got a real gay guy to play Kevin - but apparently he's a really good actor or something - because he's supposed to be str8. Balthazar is indeed easy on the eyes.-- oh, yeah, and Holly -- (forget her name) - her husband is a producer of the show or something -- they were on "Thirty Something" many many years ago but married to other people in that show -- her real life hubby is quite a hottie too ! (or was) havent seen pics of him for years.
Her Husband is Ken Olin ( He was realy hot back then) who directed the show sometimes. I read somewhere that their daughter is in the show too on a recurring role as Sarah. I just can't remember which episode she was in.

it was good to know that sally & tom played a married couple since they were great together in steel magnolias
