I suddenly was wondering about the rationale behind cat-petting: do catterers pick little felines because they are less high-maintenance than, say, dogs (hair-dressing and all that), but then they are demanding enough to cater *ooops* to the need for being a "giver"?

If it is because of company, why not rather choose a turtle that would spare you the mourning and, quite probably, to the beast itself too?

Just wondering... Oh well.

Hooray! A cat thread!

What ailurophobes such as yourself don't understand is that cats aren't the exception, dogs are. And to some extent, certain birds.

"Oh, cats are snotty and don't worship you like dogs do."

"Oh, cats are too aloof and don't care if you're alive or dead as long as you feed them."

Well, the same goes for fish. And rabbits. And iguanas. Or any other pet. Even some boyfriends.

With cats, what you put in is what you get out. My cats know (knew) not only their names but each other's names. The came when I called them (if they wanted to). And the claim that cats are inscrutable is false. Any proper cat owner will tell you that.

I love dogs too but prefer cats because I'm too self centered to be some animal's pack leader.

And the claim that cats are inscrutable is false.

Like the claim about women, or about men being pigs... yeah, popular wisdom is that: the greater fools shouting out loud their rubbish and general ignorance and impotence.

"Popular wisdom" is practically an oxymoron.

You made a thread and titled it cats. It was your thread, I know. But once you clicked submit, like a great work of art it was no longer yours.
So let's go...

Evil. Pure evil. I cant trust anything that sneaky. You mindin your business watching tv and outta nowhere this hairy pussy is on your shoulder like OHMYGOD HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN SITTING THERE?!

I can let my guard down with dogs, you know when theyre coming. Cats are just there, until they arent. And then theyre back. And what are they doing leaving their owner for days at a time? Probably hard drugs.

I love Cats!! Big cats small cats! One of my favorite Batman characters is Catwoman! Something about them I'm drawn to! Just prefer them over dogs. I am allergic to both though so own none! I love love LOVE Rabbits but lack the essential space that they demand but they are so CUTE!!!

This. We'd love to also have a dog, but travel for business etc. always made this a challenge.

Cats and humans have a different relationship than dogs and humans.....both are wonderful.

Our cats are emotionally and intellectually engaged with us and initiate and return affection daily. They are more independent, but ours love to sleep on top of us in the evening and through the night. And when you get affection from a cat, you know they love you.
