Clint Eastwood steals the RNC

.
What I find the most astonishing is that so much of the post-convention buzz was about
Eastwood, not Romney. :=D:

Last night Bill Maher said Clint Eastwood's embarrassing skit was a metaphor for the entire republican party: "A confused old person yelling at something that doesn't exist".

Akin stole the run-up and Eastwood's tragic skit will be what people are thinking about as a take away....but maybe better that than the drunk guy performance that Rancid Prepuce gave in his 'speech' and much better than having the focus on the string of outright and disingenuous lies spun by Paul Ryan.

I'm beginning to think that Eastwood may have been on purpose after all.

Clint calls it like he sees it and peels away the skin of the onion on Obama's "likeability"

Ok, we get it. We watched it. We don't need a play-by-play account of what Clint was obviously grunting. Your accounts are less entertaining without the theatrics during his performance.

we get it? this thread was started by someone who much like the mainstream media wants to MOCK a great man

I've already in my earlier posts said that I thought the speech was ill advised, and I blame Romney's people

But in seeing it after the fact (I missed it live) and reading about it - I think a lot of america - will not think it was so terrible - yeah in NYC, in SF, Chicago, Boston, etc. - they think it stunk and they''' talk about it as a weapon to use against romney - cuz that's all they care about - WINNING

well - much of what Clint said was spot on - the chair thing was weird

here's what a romney aide said .....

A Romney campaign aide addressed Romney's appearance later, saying, "Judging an American icon like Clint Eastwood through a typical political lens doesn't work. His ad-libbing was a break from all the political speeches, and the crowd enjoyed it. He rightly pointed out that 23 million Americans out of work or underemployed is a national disgrace and it's time for a change."

Hey, we have an out of touch liberal babbling right near the White House, if you're going to insult Clint Eastwood.
His name is Joe Biden. Vice President of the United States. Chosen by Barack Obama himself.

If people want to watch the whole speech by Eastwood, the link was already posted.

We don't need it presented sentence by sentence.

As for Joe Biden? He comes in for a healthy share of bashing here by the Romney Zombie crowd...so it is only fair that Clint's Flop Speech come in for some criticism as well.

Particularly for the damage it did to the convention momentum and to Mitt's moment in the sun.

It is not unexpected that vituperative uber-left idealogues would view Eastwood's presentation as an embarrassment...no surprise here. Hatred for the elderly is certainly seen historically in all communist regimes. Just look at the mandatory "End-of-life counselling" that we have in Obamacare. We see you for who you are.

I saw a middle-of-the-road person saying that he had hoped for a uniter in President Obama, but all we have got was being fucked in the ass without lube. I am able to view someone's speech in light of who they are...it is too bad that people who hold themselves up as representatives of the gay community cannot.

Kev, you're so far to the right that everyone is left of you. ;)

But I'm glad you agree that senior citizen Eastwood's fame shouldn't have been exploited at the convention.

Oops, sorry, I thought that's how we were doing quotes in this thread. I was just following Chance's lead. ;)

I was referring to Chance's lead. I thought your follow-up was delicious.

I think you're confusing Kanadian parliamentary rules with

Reality

The attempt to belittle a great man needs to be addressed

As Americans see fit

You're confusing the chicken with the egg

Clint Eastwood was brilliant!

The on-target, to the point folksy wisdom of his critique of the Obama Presidency evokes the cachet of American masters like Mark Twain, Robert Frost, Will Rogers, and Ralph Waldo Emerson.

One of the highlights of the century! :D

At least your "not so terrible" comment is implying that it was indeed "somewhat terrible". The notion that the media was somehow "waiting to pounce" on Eastwood is as nutso as talking to empty chairs- this man is SO respected that the media would not have gotten away with it unless it were true- people left and right would have rushed to the defense of this "poor old man" and legendary actor/director.

And the "a lot of America" that this would have resonated with this ridiculousness are those already voting for Romney. No undecided voter was like, "Oh... senile old Clint Eastwood rambling to a chair... that makes my decision so much easier... ROMNEY 2012!"

But, more importantly, you do know what they moved out of primetime coverage to make room for this, right? They moved the following Mitt Romney promo video:

Even I thought this video was an AMAZING political tool and did what no real-life moment could do: make Romney relatable and human. If you have not done so, watch this and then tell me with a straight gay face that replacing THIS with Eastwood was not a COLOSSAL mistake. Talk about something that might have actually changed minds...;)

I keep hoping to wake up one morning to learn that something got Obama to ditch Biden and name Oregon's Wyden his running mate. I'd actually probably vote for that combo.

Yeah it isn't so terrible... that's why republicans are questioning why they did it....

Wow. THAT would have made a boost in his poll numbers!

I like Clint, and I definitely think the chair skit could have been done a lot better, but compared to that, Eastwood should have taken that chair and joined the audience.

But they'll put that out somewhere. This just got more interesting.

Yep - Morning Joe did a post Mortem with most all agreeing that the video and the Mormon families who mitt helped should've been in network time - chuck Todd suggested that approx. 10-15 million viewers were "lost"

And my take on Clint is here in the thread several x - I don't get the chair and mitts people messed up

But mitt has dough - unlike Obama who shot his jizz mightily the last 3 mos. with nasty ass bullshit ads designed to demonize mitt (lovely hope and change play)

Get ready for lots of mitt-ads

Which will accentuate the kindler - gentler

I certainly agree with the quantity statement above... not so much with the quality statement though. We both know Romney has no intention of running a positive campaign (see Rebulican primary/ pre-Convention campaign). It takes A LOT of continuous effort to weave Romney's web of deceit into something seemingly positive and inspirational (10 minutes and 38 seconds with a captive audience to be precise). In a 15-30 second ad, Romney will do more of the same: blatantly lie and distort welfare and medicare positions. As evidenced by the Eastwood switch-a-roo, he has completely given up on likeability and inspiration.

In fact, I wish I had $10,000 lying around to bet you that on a percentage basis, Romney will have a higher negative ad ratio than Obama. Alas- I do not... perhaps, I can borrow $10,000 imaginary dollars from Clint though... ;)

Just think ... next week, the second weakest US democrat President (Jimmy Carter) in the last 100 years will be speaking while the weakest one (Barrack Obama) gets nominated.

Should make for some must-see TV.

I'm sure the guys and gals at PolitFact.org will be off on their end of summer vacations to the beach.

With Jimmy you trade an empty chair for an empty mind.
