He was carrying a rifle. How did he ever get into the club?

The time of day was almost midnight.
The ambient temperature was about 18°F.
The Moon was waning crescent with an illumination of about 16%.

That really depends on how it all went down.

Maybe he entered wearing a long coat like the boys did in the Columbine shooting.

Maybe he entered with the gun disassembled and put the two pieces together quickly before was apparent what he was doing.

Maybe he pushed through the front door with firearms blazing.

It's not like many night spots have armed guards at the door. Usually there are just bouncers for drunks.

...What I found most interesting, though, is the Mormon connection. Probably not something the 'we're not all like that' crowd wants to discuss, though.
Not all Mormons settled in Utah. You can't throw a stone in rural Colorado or Arizona without hitting a ultra-conservative LDS or LDS-offshoot member. It's one of the reasons those rural Congressional Districts elect nutjobs like Paul Gosar and Lauren Boebert... it is, after all, a representative democracy.

On the other hand, being the descendant of an elected Representative who is a Jan 6th insurrection fan is far less common.

Heavy has confirmed that Aldrich is the grandson of outgoing California Republican State Assemblymember Randy Voepel, the former mayor of Santee, California. Voepel represents the 71st District in the San Diego area. There were calls to expel Voepel from the state Assembly after he made comments comparing the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol to the Revolutionary War. Aldrich’s mother, Laura Voepel, has written posts praising Randy Voepel on Facebook and confirming he is her father.

Yet the connection cited was LDS. The LDS constitutes over 95% of Mormons in the world.

So, her imputed Mormonism is to the Mother Ship, not to one of the abandoned colonies.

None of the usual crime/violence statistics enthusiasts gonna break down this shooting? I can't imagine the cause for their silence.

His mother and her father sound like real head cases too

A couple of points no one seems to have mentioned is that the heavy.com article not only refererenced online bullying that allegedly caused him to change his legal name, but actually reposted part of the bullying. That's kinda unthinkable and should be condemned on its own. It isn't any different than chuckling at someone's stolen revenge nudes posted online.

The second silent point is that the shooter was apparently deeply ashamed of his father entering the world of pornography and appearing under the name "Dick Delaware" in some straight porn.

The fact that we're on a porn site should certainly make that a Hot Topic if it led to mental disturbance leading to maladaptation socially and mass shooting.

Empathy for this monster.

Herein begins the "poor tortured soul" narrative youknowwhos get every time they mass murder.

My sympathies to the families and friends of the victims for the loss of their loved ones

..and my sympathies to the state of Colorado for the loss of its death penalty

Ironic, but Aldrich, along with his fat dough-boy ass, might very well be giving his own version of drag performances to a captive audience here in the near future.

It's like comparing Catholics in Boston to Catholics in Ohio. There's a difference in their history that accounts for a difference in conservatism. The LDS adherents who live in rural areas are far more conservative, particularly those who settled in those rural areas after Brigham Young's instructions in the latter part of the 19th century, even if they are part of the mainline Church.

The President/Prophet might change the position of the Church, but the flock in the rural areas don't always get the memo. Ask a Mormon in rural Arizona what they think about Black men in the clergy and you'll get a different answer than you if asked a Mormon in SLC.

The original point was whether there was something novel about the gunman being a Mormon. There is not. The rural Southwest has a lot of Mormons, as does Idaho. It would be the same if the gunman were Pentecostal or a SBC church attendee.

The grandfather sounds like a loon. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

The pattern on this one will be the likely be the same- someone with low prospects who had a history of mental illness who was radicalized by the social media or right-wing media. Not much difference between the same phenomenon with radicalized Muslims 20 years ago.

Why don't they show up for me?

And in other news a gunman his killed "up to 10" people in a Walmart in Virginia.

The US has so many shootings that the news doesn't cover them until it's over 10 people and unless it's a unique population - like public school students, Jews, Gays, etc.

The 2017 Las Vegas shooting killed 60 people, wounded over 400 and resulted in injuries to over 800 people. It's long forgotten.

Colorado has a gay governor who is really talented politician and was just re-elected but like all states it has pockets of dumb inbred morons.

Three things to know specifically about Colorado Springs:
  1. It's the home of Focus on the Family, the anti-LGBT political action hate group that masquerades as a faith organization. They were big into gay-conversion ministries.
  2. It home to three military bases and has a lot of ex-military guys, including the ex-military guys who tackled the shooter.
  3. When Colorado passed a state-level red flag law, the El Paso County sheriff made public statements that he would not enforce the law. If local authorities would have enforced a red flag law, it's possible that the shooter wouldn't have been able to walk into a gay bar with an AR-15.

Focus on the Family is obsessed with men who diddle with other men:

And transgender people:

Now the defense allegedly claims the defendant is non binary. Saw the right wing reaction on Twitter and it's as awful and hateful as you can imagine.

It only gets crazier from here.
