Comics!

Haven't heard of it, actually. The most non-mainstream I get is probably the big three by Vertigo, and I only get them by trades.

I'm developing a deep love for The Sandman. Neil gaiman's just such a fantastic writer. Has he doen any Marvel stuff? Or is he purely DC Sandman?

Gaiman worked on the original 1602, which had a follow up entitled "The New World" by Greg Pak, who did the Phoenix: Endsong. Personally? I'm not familiar with Gaiman's work, but for the most part, people are saying that his 1602 isn't up to par, and from my own (extremely high) standards, I'd have to agree.

Right now, he's busy with Eternals, featuring Sersi, mind you. Number one came out this month, and number two is shipping this week. I'm getting my copy tomorrow. If you don't have it yet then maybe you can just back-order. It's not all that great, but my bro really digged it, so he'll be the one spending the cash.

I read 1602, now I remember. It wasn't fantastic, but his Sandman stuff is.

I seriously recommend reading the trades. He also did a bit about The Sandman's family, the Endless who appear every so often in the standard comics. It's called The Sandmen: Endless Nights.

I'm still a little stuck on buying everything that Brian Vaughan ever wrote. Plus collecting Fables on trade is taxing my wallet ;) Besides, I did a short read once, cuz a lot of my friends were Gaimanoholics, and I really wasn't as involved in it as they were.

By the way, read Ultra: Seven Days by the Luna Brothers. It's like Sex and City meets Marvel, totally rocks:D

Hmmm...I'll have to check that out. Right now I'm thanking my stars that I work at a library which has almost allof the sandman tbps.

Hey Everyone-

Just wanted to share this with all of you and to get your support of the project.

Those of you familar with the game City of Heroes may remember a gay team called PRISM. Well, a number of the original members of the team (me included) have banded together to start a comic series.
I serve as an adviser to the comic. My hero, Lightspot, appears in the series. Please stop by the above site, check it out, and visit the forums to learn more about the book, which will arrive this fall.

Thanks!

Thanks for the "heads up" Mikey! I'll have to keep an eye out for it. :)

It's good fun. I just read books a lot as they come by. I read Marvel 1602 and a bunch of indie comics while I was 'shelving'.

I dunno, I can't stand not talking with somebody for more than five minutes. besides, old books are creepy.

They're watching me? They must be bored out of their minds then. Anyway, I guess the only reason I don't like libraries is that I never see a remotely attractive person in any a 'em. Gym is much better:)

Tony really *IS* a tool...

That's because Tony's a tool in every sense of the word. His powers are tool-based and he's a tool in general.

If by 'Tony', you're referring to none other than Tony Stark aka Iron Man, I couldn't agree with you more. One of the earliest significant memories back in my hey-day when I had barely collected comics more more than a year, was Iron Man #228, and after what he did to Steve 'Captain America' Rogers (The way I just did it; it's for the newbies; obviously not the seasoned comic pros, natch) in that ish, I never really liked him. I even did some fan fic/a prospective script for Marvel (that I actually sent to them) where I made Iron Man into a rabid homophobe, and although that didn't ever make it into a comic, I have an idea that Kurt Busiek may have gotten his hands on it, and some point, and 'organically' inserted his interpretation into one of his books, and though Iron Man wasn't portrayed as anti-gay, he did make a comment 'bout him being racist; the exact (if I've got the scumbag title right, anywayz) quote was "Now that I've come across as the Imperial Grand Wizard of the KKK...".

Big points to any real geeks who can name me the V. and issue # where Tony the Tool said that...

hmm, we should start different threads for DC and marvel. Cause I don't know what the fuck is going on in Marvel right now (by default, im a dc fan) Civil war seems awesome, but i am so far behind, i cant get into it. i missed too much. If its anything as big as infinite Crisis at DC then it must be awesome

Don't feel bad, I'm buying most of the Civil War stuff and I feel so far behind myself. Some of it just isn't making any sense... I think part of it is the way the books are scheduled to come out.

MunSimpson: Hey bro, glad to see another BR fan here. (Thought I was the only one...) The manga's awesome, way more than the film version since the movie never got to flesh out the students like the comic did.

Mitsuko is awesome. She's gotta be the most creative killer out there.

God, she was hella nuts. But I lurved her. My ex and I rented it hoping it would be a fun gore-fest like Kill Bill but ti turned out to be a bit more disturbing than we thought.

I still think DC's to glitz and camp for me to take it very seriously. The primaries! The costumes! Gah!

Yeah, censor nuts should have a field day with it. It's way more freaky than Kill BIll 'cuz those are actual 15 year olds playing 15 year olds who are stabbing, shooting, and maiming each other.

But it's way tame comapred to the Manga version. There we get brains, guys getting uzi-ed in the crotch, Mitsuko raping a guy to death, and other scary shit that some of my badass straight friends can't even stomach.
