Comics!

I kind of have to agree. The Shatterstar/Rictor romance has more nuance whereas I reckon Kyle was brought into existence just for this sort of attention grabbing sort of thing.

What gets me is Kyle is always refered to as his long time partner yet he didn't appear until post Uncanny issue 500. As far as I know you never got wind that Northstar was seeing anyone long term. At least with Rictor and Star their relationship started in the 90s.

It's a good time for gays in comics right now. Northstar marries his bf, Alan Scott goes gay... It's nice to see gay male characters breaking through.

Th gay comic book characters just brings up a sense of irrelevance in the stories, love in general with the comic books just seems so unnecessary.

I think we'll be pushing our luck though soon if the big two comics companies keep having major gay storylines. I'm gay and even I'm getting sick of it. I mean, no-one makes a big deal about interracial relationships anymore.

I dare say that may be the point. To create enough exposure so people don't even care anymore?

Yes but it could easily go the other way. Suddenly when evil people start saying gay people want to turn the whole world gay, there's evidence to back it up. At least for the very silly it is.

I would actually have rathered an entirely new gay character who becomes a Green Lantern. I think DC has mismanaged this.

The DC thing was a joke. "GREEN LANTERN IS GAY!!!!!!"

...except it's not Hal...

...and it's not in the prime universe...

...and therefore nobody cares.

Personally, I'm happy about the Northstar wedding. They made an event of it, and people will notice. I am also really happy about the Wiccan/Hulkling line.

I care that GL is gay. I have read the first two issues of Earth 2 and I really like it so far. Can't wait for more!

I don't know, I've been a pretty avid fan of Justice Society for a while now so for me, the perspective has been that Alan Scott is a major character. I understand he isn't a member of the JLA, so he doesn't carry the extra-media star power that Superman, Batman, or Wonder Woman carries....

And hopefully they make him a bigger character. If Earth 2 really takes off then he will be a bigger character by default. I really like it. I have my fingers crossed for a DC Animated feature down the road.

Astonishing X-men #51 is out! From my blog:

Astonishing X-men #51 is out today, with Northstar and Kyle's wedding as the main event. While coming in the middle of a storyarc that has nothing to do with it, the issue is almost exclusively dedicated to the wedding, yet it still feels a bit short and glossing over the controversy that people expected from it. There isn't much "choosing sides" here, not much conservative drama, and I actually like that. The wedding feels much more real with the main problems being the grooms being nervous about it.

The art does the event enough justice, even though Mike Perkins isn't going to be a favorite of mine any time soon. The real gem here is Marco Djurdjevic's variant cover (posted above) which blows me away. The digital image doesn't do it justice - in real life the coloring is perfect and the artwork is just breathtaking.

All in all, Marvel's first gay wedding passes with flying colors. Can't wait to see what half-baked sensationalist rip-off DC will come up with...

Yay!!!!!!!! Off to the comic book store :D

I also got a copy of the variant cover, which is absolutely gorgeous...

I like AVX but seriously too Avengers biased, yes I know the Phoenix Force took other hosts but it was Stark's flipping doing. I honestly think Cyclops is being honest, he's pigheadedness isn't allowing him to see what's happening. But seriously time for team Cyclops to get a bit of love and the Avengers some hate, the last time I saw any hate was in Legacy when they arrived at the school.

Just joined this site, and found this thread! I've been collecting comics for 20 years.

Pull List:
DC: Swamp Thing, Animal Man, JLD, Dial H for Hero, Green Arrow, Catwoman, Batman, Fables
Marvel: X-Men, Uncanny X-Men, Wolverine & The X-Men, Hawkeye, Ultimate X-Men, Journey into Mystery
Image: Glory
Dark Horse: The Massive, Ghost

Favorite Author(s): Alan Moore, Brian Woods, & Joe Casey

I am really enjoying the AvsX, and am actually xcited to see where it all ends up - who is it that dies? My guess is going to be Xavier. It plays into what Marvel has planned for NOW and it seems like the only end result for his character's arc: eventually the teacher must step aside, and Xavier would never do that unless his character was completely taken off the board.
