"Coming out" guide for gay conservatives?

Actually, we do have the same rights. Gays and straights have the same right to marry someone of the opposite sex. The is what the word "marry" means. What gays want is a new definition of the word, not the same right. Do straights have a right to sue for discrimination against straights in employment or housing. Not in most states. Some laws against sexual orientation discrimination, passed for benefit of gays may cover straights, but even without the laws, gays have the same right as straights.

I always hate it when that stupid "we all equal to marry a woman" canard comes out, you should know better, it has and always was a childish argument to justify inequality.

What a pile of horseshit.

Equality is being able to marry the person you love.

don't feed us crap like this.

We're all smarter and have a lot more self respect than to accept such garbage from anyone.

This spew just proves that straight Republican't trolls are so afraid of JUB that they will say anything.

The argument you have bought into and dredge up here is devoid of any substance.

Consider the idea of equal free speech, meaning everyone may speak freely about the wisdom of the Dear Leader as in North Korea.
Consider the idea of freedom of religion, where christians and jews and muslims are all entitled to the same test of faith imposed by the inquisition.

I doubt you will consider it, but the rest of us can. The argument you present against marriage equality is utter nonsense.

Yeah this guy has really tipped his hand at this point.

Of course, I am gay. I just march to the tune of a different drummer, and not in lockstep as gays and liberals are expected to do.

You are marching in lockstep actually, and against the beat too. And it's very weird to me that you say you're gay, yet you use terms like "the pathetic fags" or whatever that piece of homophobia was in one of the recent topics. At the very least I'd expect you to talk about "us" or "other gays" rather than "the gays" as if you have nothing in common with us.

Yes, you are marching with the forces that want to deny gay relationships equal status in society and bar gay people from accessing fundamental protections and securities that straight people take for granted in their relationships.

Why is the number of posts in this topic constantly dwindling? Are posts being deleted?

In a word, yes. I know one of mine was and, more recently, a post mentioning that there were deleted posts was (strangely enough) also deleted.

Yeah - this is a bullshit pile on shit show

Instigated by the know nothing haters

I mostly agree with this.

Marriage in the United States, has been defined for the past 230+ years as the union between one man & one woman. I rarely use the phrase "marriage equality" (which liberals love to use), because we technically already have "marriage equality" -- any gay man can marry any woman he chooses. If a gay man were to go to a county office to request a marriage license with a woman, no county clerk would ask "Are either of you gay? If either or both of you are gay, we cannot issue you a marriage license."

So yes, gays DO want a redefinition of the word & institution of marriage.

But is there a case to be made for "redefining" or "expanding" the institution of marriage to include same-sex adult couples?

I would argue yes. I do personally support same-sex marriage.

I also do support non-discrimination laws including sexual orientation when it comes to employment and housing, with exceptions made for churches and businesses that are directly owned by religious institutions.

It's interesting you mentioned discrimination in housing. If you ever check out listings for apartments or roommates in major US cities like NYC, San Francisco, Philadelphia, DC, LA, San Diego, Chicago, etc etc -- a lot of people (mostly women) state in their ads that they prefer female or gay male roommates or tenants. Most of the time gay men prefer to have other gay men as apartment roommates or tenants.

Maybe it's because gay men have a stereotype of being fabulous and clean and responsible. I don't know. But if a person specifically says in their housing ad -- "Females or gay men only" -- isn't that discrimination against straight men?

Only if you're into religious discrimination. There are cultures within the United States for whom "traditional marriage" included the possibility of gay marriage. In one of those cultures, homosexual couples were considered special, a gift from the gods to the tribe or kingdom.

So to oppose marriage equality on the basis if a "traditional marriage" or "what the word 'marry' means" basis is to oppose three things:

1. Truth: there's no such thing as "traditional marriage", even in the Bible, where there was a variety of forms; and the word "marry" has meant different things to different peoples and cultures and religions, and still does.
2. Good sense: the philosophical foundation of marriage is freedom of association; government has no business elevating one kind of choice in association over another. It's nothing but bias or bigotry to oppose it, not good sense.
3. The U.S. Constitution: out founding document forbids discrimination on the basis of religion, and religion is the only basis on which your position stated above can be maintained.

As for the discrimination against straights in jobs and housing... You've got to be kidding. Come one, give us ONE, just one cite for someone being fired for being straight and someone being denied housing for being straight.

I'm beginning to feel very stifled in this forum lately...

That makes about twenty of us, I think.

It's not a very good thing for discussion when the mere observation that posts are being deleted calls for deletion, and especially when the failings of moderators as posters get deleted, giving moderators license to operate below the standards the rest of us are supposed to aim for.
