Covers that were better than the original

I know it's blasphemy throwing Judy under the bus but I have heard this cover a million times by a million artist and no one ever does it better than this live rendition with no benefits from studio refinement.... it is a moment of magnificence in music history....

the battle of the Jennifers….

and a rendition together that will put a chill right into your soul...

at 4:57 Hudson tips the scale for me - but regardless if you are camp Hudson or Holiday it is evident in the first clip that Hudson shows all how much more talented she is than Beyoncé will ever be *mic drop

No disrespect Al

No disrespect Tina

^loved both versions

- but I like Pete Escovedo and Sy Smith's jazzy version better - nice to see Sheila E smile again

Ricky Martin-Cambia La Piel

Jarabe de Palo - Cambia La Piel

Tori Amos - Raining Blood (cover)

Slayer - Raining Blood (original)

I vastly prefer Tori's version.

Tom Waits - Downtown Train

Patty Smyth - Downtown Train

Rod Stewart - Downtown Train

Stephen Gately's version of Abba's "Chiquitita" has had well over 2 million 'views' on YouTube ...

... and in Abba's "Voulez-vous," Boy George sings: "The boy means business, so I'll offer him a drink" ...

:)

Boy George's "Voulez Vous" rendition doesn't resonate with me as competing with the original at all (certainly not better, although I can see why a gay person would like to take it and apply a new meaning to it).

It's a nice song the way Boy George sings it, but it lacks tension, bite, or irony. The original song was predator/predatory. This is not that at all. They're almost two completely different songs, to my ears. Not what I would call a "cover" at all.
