Desperate Housewives Fans?

Oh, by the way, the past two weeks it's had the best ratings it's had in months. :)

Not really. ABC's deal with Marc Cherry won't stop them from cancelling the show if the viewers aren't there.

It just means that they've agreed to pay him megabuck either way to stop him taking the show somewhere else. So the renewal for the 2007/8 season that I read about confirms that they won't be cancelling the show this year.

But I take your point and it's interesting that ABC would take the gamble, which sure looks risker now than three months ago when the deal was made. I hope it pays off.

My sense is that the show's long since jumped the shark and I hope it won't be around much longer.

First of all, if you don't like the show, don't watch it. Why hope for disappointment for others who may still enjoy it at least sometimes.

Secondly, this whole "jump the shark" thing has really jumped the shark. People don't even use the term properly anymore.

Lighten up. This is an opinion board and I'm expressing an opinion. I'm not really hoping "for disappointment for others". But good to know that someone out there thinks there's a correct usage of the jump the shark phrase that everyone else should adhere to. LOL.

ABC's not canceling their biggest hit series anytime soon, sorry to disappoint you.

Ironic, you telling someone else to "lighten up".

Well, let's see....

You said you hoped the show wouldn't be around for much longer. If it isn't, you're happy and I'm not, hence me saying you're hoping for disappointment for others.

Do you even know the origin or the phrase "jump the shark" and why it's used?

For the record...I am enjoying this season....but just not quite as much as previous ones. I think Marcia Cross' not being there is a major loss...I really didn't appreciate her until now that she's gone. Her story just ended so abruptly and perhaps left the writers scrambling for re-writes. Who knows what's in store for her because Orson is psycho. Can't wait for that to continue.

I think there will be a shake up with the happy couples next season...and I'm hoping Edie and Carlos are the happy ones. I really liked the tender moment where he said he'd be there for her. She was so vulnerable...not the Edie we have gotten to know. His desire for kids could be the issue between them though...I can't see her popping any out.

Susan and Mike's getting together may be too soon. Where can they go from here? They can't be happy for the remainder of the series...so they are doomed. Maybe a few more unforeseen bumps in the road. ??? ...of course!

Lynette and Tom...they've had a whole series of stresses and illnesses and haven't been happy for a while. I don't want them to have serious problems, but it could be an interesting direction to go in....what with 5 kids and all. Ultimately though, I want them to stay together.

Gabby...well, I don't think she's capable of being happy with anyone. This mayor story could be a good one too...especially if he's in organized crime. Gabby as a mafia princess??? Could be good especially if she gets into the power trip...even more so than she's been on lately.

Disappointed that soon it will be over...but then again...summer is right around the corner which means fun fun fun! :gogirl:

I'm actually really intrigued to see where Gaby's relationship goes...it bored me until last week. Now it's getting interesting.

Tee hee, get a life guys.

The show's characters and plotlines have developed from funny satire into childish nonsense and co-incidence to such an extent that watching regularly any more really is a complete waste of time.

But, obviously, that's just my humble opinion. Your time is yours to waste.

As for jumping the shark, the meaning seems pretty clear. Google around if it isn't.

I find it funny that you'd tell us to get a life, when you're the one spending time in a thread about a show you don't like, arguing about it. Seems to make no sense to me, really.

Not that hard really. I used to like it and still have a interest.

Some of the other posters here have made the same criticisms I have and the dropping numbers from the previous seasons suggest that many other viewers feel the same way. Like I suspect those others, if I hear that it gets better, I'll start watching again.

But I agree with you to the extent that, having made my point, there's no purpose in droning on in the meantime.

Well, actually, I do know what it means. You claim the meaning is clear but I notice you've yet to respond to my question of whether or not you know its meaning.

The meaning I know is the one in common usage as indicated by, say, my previously suggested internet search of the phrase.

For example:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jumping_the_shark

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=jump+the+shark&f=1

http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4SUNA_en___US213&q=jumping+the+shark

Your persistence implies that you think you know of some true meaning. But linguistic phrases develop their own meanings in usage that can take them far away from whatever they meant originally or from whatever any one person thinks they should mean.

This exchange, for example, has long since reached its peak.

Swept under the carpet. Not even the shadow of Justin seen. As for Andrew, since he was acting all responsible and more, his gayness and him were not on screen for quite a number of episodes.
