  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Do you ever sneak in food or drink to the movies?

It's been a couple of years but, Ariel and I would go to the dollar store and pick up about four choco bars and a couple of drinks. It cost about $4.

I just got back from the movies. They wanted $5 for a bottle of water. I went without.

I pay for the Soda & Popcorn (and the theatre gives free-refills on both)..

I wish my local ones would. We have to pay a bit more for refillable soda & popcorn.

I'm going to see "Wolf Man" Tonight with a couple of Sci-Fi Geek-buds and we DARE the snow-storm to get in our way..

I just got back from it. I want to know what you think of it tonight. I am thinking of going to watching Percy Jackson in a few hours, but after WolfMan I don't know.

In Florida we have a concept called Cinema Bistro where you can see a movie and have dinner including wine and cocktails. Seems too gimmicky though.

Salem has two of those now. I have not been to one though.

I almost always bring outside treats to the theater. I have to buy my ticket. If I have my kids with me, that's 2 more. Costs over 20 dollars just to get in. If I bought snacks there it would be another 20 bucks. I don't know how they expect families to afford it. 40 dollars for 90 minutes of entertainment is kinda pricey.

I usually stop by Target and pick up some Twizzlers (cherry licorice) and some chocolate bars. I get a Coke for me and a Sprite for my kids. Occasionally I will buy a popcorn at the theater. Skip the "buttery flavored" oil they put on. Yuk. We usually go to the theater in the mall so I just put the treats in a shopping bag and walk right in.

A very good friend of mine manages theaters in the Twin Cities. When I lived there I didn't pay to go to movies for years. (!) If we brought in a containers we could have sodas and popcorn free too. The theaters make most of their money on the concession stands. The cost of admission goes towards studios and actors.

red bull (vodka optional,) sandwich, any kind of candy.

haha that brings back some memories. We used to make cocktails and bring them to the movies..lots of fun!

Now, I may buy a coke zero and put it in my friend's purse. I like buying popcorn though..something about eating, smelling popcorn in a big movie theater that makes the experience more complete

I've walked in right in with a six pack in a bag. Never had an issue. They don't sell beer, so I'm not really cheating them out of anything.

I don't snack at the movies. hate having to get up to use the restroom and miss something.

When I go to my hometown theatre I buy popcorn. It's only $2 and has real butter and several toppings, as well.

Yes - how DARE movie theatres NOT serve alcohol!!!! A pint of booze could last a double feature...just switch theatres after the first one and save on ticket prices as well. (!)

We have a few theatres in Portland that serve beer/wine and at least one with cocktails.

Popcorn costs more than the movie. What's wrong with this picture? What exactly is the feature presentation, the movie or the junk food?

Since they are not the police they cannot search your bags. I just take a backpack with me .. no "sneaking" in. Usually I bring a bag of crisps or just some chocolate ;)

From my local threater's website:

Backpacks/Packages/Bags:

To ensure the safety of our guests and employees, Regal Entertainment Group reserves the right to inspect the contents of any backpack, package, or bag prior to admission.

And trust me they do. You know, just to keep "us" safe.:^o

I'm going to ignore all the posts above.

In the 80's I used to manage movie theaters, so I know how much they need the concession revenues.

For a first run, top film, in its earliest weeks of release, the theater may have to send 100% or 95% of the box office to the studio. Doesn't leave much to pay the bills...

I used to take in mini's of Jack Daniels to mix with the coke i bought; but I haven't done that in a long time. One local theater (not the mega-chain) serves beer, wine or mixed drinks. I try to go there, not because they serve drinks, but because it is locally owned and operated.

We have a small chain here, too, that provides just as much a bar experience as a theater one. Love going there!

I'm flexible but I prefer that. We can linger at dinner and discuss the movie amongst other things.

What about you?

On a Date it's usually Dinner 1st then a movie...Sometimes its vice-versa...It varies with friends..Like tonight we all went to the Movies 1st then Chili's Grill & Bar after the show..The ONLY time I eat buttered popcorn is @ the movies..So I got a Combo..You're right, after eating all that popcorn, M&M's and drinking soda I couldnt eat much so I brought a good potion of my food home...

I thought it was "good"...Early reviews said it would be "dark" and I felt it was...They made the "Wolf Man" as monstrous as they could without over-doing it..Benicio Del Toro is simply SUPERB and he's got that "calmness" that brings you into every scene...He's not over-the-top and he doesnt have to be.

After all these years Sir Anthony Hopkins can say one line and STEAL the whole scene...Sir Anthony is Brilliant and if "The WolfMan" is not forgotten over the next 10-months I hope he garners supporting-actor nods for 2011 awards season...."The WolfMan" Make-Up team will win Oscars in 2011...Awesome, just awesome job...

The "WolfMan" remake is worth the admission price and a trip to the concession-stand...
