I have more than enough to money to make a down payment on a house/condo but have resisted due to living circumstances. Especially in Boston and the immediate surrounding areas, it is sadly more expensive to own than it is to rent. I was paying around $2300 w/utilities&parking per month in my old apartment (1br/1.5ba). If I were to buy my old apartment with the parking, it would be around $300k today and that doesn't include the utilities and the nickel and diming that my old town does to its residents.
I've always rented a bedsit or small flat.
I would love to own my own home ... preferably in the countryside with a little garden.
But I will never be able to afford any sort of mortgage. So unless, by some miracle or other, I suddenly come into a vast sum of money I will be renting 'til the day I die.
A cottage in the English countryside sounds wonderful. I bet they are expensive, however?
Define expensive. Prices vary substantially depending on the area.
Does this mean you could find one reasonably priced for HoodedRat?
$2300??? Wow! That's more than my monthly take home pay! I don't think I want to move there!
