....home? Or do you rent?

Do you want to own a home someday? And by home I mean a house, condo, townhome, co-op, etc.

Or do you prefer to be a renter all your life?

I'd like my own home, for sure.
It is hard for me to believe anyone want to be the Renter.I hate the feeling of parklife like the situation Im in now.

I have more than enough money to make a down payment on a house/condo but have resisted due to living circumstances. Especially in Boston and the immediate surrounding areas, it is sadly more expensive to own than it is to rent. I was paying around $2300 w/utilities&parking per month in my old apartment (1br/1.5ba). If I were to buy my old apartment with the parking, it would be around $300k today and that doesn't include the utilities and the nickel and diming that my old town does to its residents.

$2300??? Wow! That's more than my monthly take home pay! I don't think I want to move there!

I rent an apartment that I can't wait to move out of. I'd like to own a home someday.

There is just something so wonderful in owning your own home.

I've always rented a bedsit or small flat.

I would love to own my own home ... preferably in the countryside with a little garden.

But I will never be able to afford any sort of mortgage. So unless, by some miracle or other, I suddenly come into a vast sum of money I will be renting 'til the day I die.

A cottage in the English countryside sounds wonderful. I bet they are expensive, however?

I own my home. I would never go back to renting, especially an apartment. Whether I continue to live in Ohio or move, I'll be in my own home.

Does this mean you could find one reasonably priced for HoodedRat?

Sadly, I think HoodedRat would need a mortgage even for a very modest country cottage. He lives in Bristol I believe and the surrounding area is one of the more expensive.

Even for the 2/5th of an acre that my parent's house is on, the land alone is worth close to half a million. Back in the mid 80s when they bought the house, they paid $83k which is about $190k in today's dollars so I guess that was a good return on investment.

Edit: Just looked up 2010 census data and my parents' town's median family income was $111k. That says a lot as to why.

I own my place - an old and rather decrepit farmhouse in the country. Chances are good that, whenever I move away, the new owners will merely tear the place down. I'm not sure the amount of benefit in investing in foundation, sealing, etc. that needs to be done, would be sensible.

Importantly, I am able to do everything here that I need to do with recreation, my home-based business, etc.

I own my home. LOVE IT! I rennovated it the way I'd like to live.

I own an older home also that is always work in progress. It's all paid for, so that's nice. Although having to pay property tax still sucks.
