I think ALL of our culture is overly sexualized, gay men are merely one part of that culture, so, if they reflect the larger culture, then yes, of course.
Another reason may be the fact that for most gay people, their 'desires' are not accepted in the mainstream, and there are not as many avenues available to express those desires. So, when they run into something, they tend to 'gorge'. Whether it's on porn, or real-life encounters, whatever.
Kinda like being very hungry all the time, and suddenly finding yourself in front of a buffett...you aren't just going to sample the stuffed mushrooms, but you're gonna pile your plate up with everything you can, because it may be awhile before you get another chance.
If you knew you'd always have a seat at the buffett, you probably wouldn't stuff yourself.

As some of us are well aware, human beings are weak, and when the feast is appetising enough, we are all wont to over indulge in order to satisfy our hunger.

Life's experiences teach us that self restraint, and discipline can reward us with relationships, that are not focussed on satisfying our greed for instant gratification.

i voted 'a little.'

but to be honest i was not thinking of gay culture alone. sex is hardwired into us all. for some its more pronounced than others but just because we're gay does not make us more predisposed to sex than our straight cousins. also as men i know we have sex on the brain a good deal of the time but we don't always act on it.

You correctly remind us that all human life is flawed, and that those who appear to be better, than the rest of us are so often hiding, behind a mask that belies their less than edifying true self.

At one time, or another each of us has been guilty, of hypocritical behaviour.

Insightful thought.

Yes it is. But it's not just gay culture that's oversexed...it's everything...everything seems to be about sex. What happened to LOVE?

I voted "a little" but I like it that way. It could be even more sexualized and I'd like it.

As some have said already, mainstream culture has a horrible attitude toward sex: SEX BAD, VIOLENCE GOOD. A few years ago, somebody had Robert Dole on a radio show, where he was airing his opinion that there was too much sex coming out of Hollywood and infesting the TV, that the media should be creating more family-friendly fare. The deejay asked Dole what movies he likes. Dole said, without a pause, "Braveheart. That was a great movie." A movie so violent that it made me sick to my stomach (and I have a pretty high violence threshhold) is better than a movie where people give each other pleasure? I don't get that mentality.

But there's also this myth that women don't care about sex, only about love. I think it's probably true that women don't care as much about marketed sex, they certainly don't buy much porn; but they aren't flocking to the Twilight movies because Jakub and Edward love Bella so much... it's because Jakub and Edward are fucking hot.

But anyway, the women have this myth, and they tend to stick to it; and their men have to tone down their sexualization of everything because they have to fit into the myth in order to get the girl.

Gay men, however, don't have to, so we're free to be as nasty as we want to be. Just as nasty as the straight guys would be if they weren't being enforced by the mythologies of religion and women's sexuality to act like eunuchs in public.

However, the reason I voted "a little bit" is that we too frequently allow the pleasures of sex to distract us from our political responsibilities to each other. We often find that the only people who care about politics are the ones who aren't having any sex. That's the only criticism I have.

I'd have to say yeah. I constantly meet new guys who tell me they are looking for friends, not random hookups, and get upset and start cursing at me because half an hour into the conversation, i won't drop everything to go fuck them.

Im still looking for the "culture" bit of gay culture, everything the village seems geared towards getting wasted or getting laid, which is fun on any given weekend, but i wouldn't want to live there.

Kinda wish we still had rights to fight for up here, then we might have conversations outside of the usual cock size/ foreskin status.

But what really sucks is that, unless you like hanging with faghags, it's very hard to make friends. And it even harder to keep them sometimes, as some bf's get jealous that you hang with gay guys. My ex would have rather i hanged with a bunch of giggling HS bitches.

Again, generalisations. But on that term, yes, we are, in a rate that others think and assume the same thing. The prove? My friend last week asked me what I talked about in JUB with you guys. She assumed we only talked about sex and nothing else.

Yes, I think it is. Not that there's something wrong with sex, but it's downright frustrating when you meet someone online who is also "looking for friends", and then gets pissed when you're actually looking for friends.

Lol, no...

Human culture is oversexed.

Straight men objectify hot women...A LOT!

Straight women objectify hot men...A LOT!

Gay men objectify hot men...A LOT!

Now here's a question...

Gay women, the other half of gay culture - are they oversexed?

Very good points. :=D:

Men, whether they're straight, bi or gay have high sex drives and tend to think more about sex than women (in general). Put two men together and you get what seems to be a highly sexualized culture.

Some aspects of gay culture are over sexualized but then again- we're men. As long as its safe sex there's nothing wrong with sex. We should be having it 3-4 times a week for healthy functioning and longevity.

I'm not buying this idea that it's men with high sex drives.

Sex Toys- the majority of which are not designed for the prostate.

But you are stereotyping. Just as much as those who write, or speak of the gay agenda.

Please define what you mean when writing of a gay culture?

Are you referring to gay men who regularly visit gay bars, or sauna baths and are sexually promiscuous?

Are you referring to gay men who regularly visit museums and art galleries?

I appreciate that you are not being condescending, or deliberately prejudicial towards other gay men. But it helps if you would define your understandings on your meaning of gay culture.

Any statement that could apply to more than one person could be said to be a stereotype.

Any view that is less than positive, or critical, of gay culture or aspects of it, could be said to be homophobic.

But i think its time we gave up our own "race card" and actually dealt with the issues at face value, instead of always dismissing them with the same tired lines.
