  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Do you think the earth have too many humans ?

overpopulation is a self-correcting problem.

I don't think the earth has "too many" people on it right now. vast swaths of the world are unpopulated or sparely populated and population growth is slowing in industrialized countries (many of which might have negative growth rates if not for immigration from less industrialized countries)... and then you've got the Chinese population quandary, which is -- what's going to happen when you've got an entire generation with +100 million more males than females?

homos heaven LOL , non of their genes will spread.

Modern agriculture depends on fossil foods for fertilization, harvesting, and transport. When oil becomes scarce, a die of is inevitable.

Yes of course it is overpopulated. And we should all be planning for more consumption not less. We call that prosperity.

Billions of people are striving for it right now.

We don't need billions more to reduce what we have to enjoy and what we have to care for.

Ahh, a man after my own heart.

Malthusian catastrophes :luv2:

No gene of mine will spread ...

And the world breathed a collective sigh of relief.

I definitely think overpopulation is a problem. There's only so many resources and quality of life is surely to be affected by the amount of people on the earth. That being said, I'd like to think fresh water is something even the most modest of us would like to have access to.

The problem is that the earth has too many heterosexuals, who are producing 3 babies per second.

lol, if you are into sucking cocks, no gene of yours will spread either ;)

The governments of the world need to start sex education programs to get straight men in touch with their feminine side, which is the G-spot God positioned deep inside their anus.

In his infinite wisdom, this is probably one of the main reasons God intended for all men to be butt fucked. Because spending time fucking each other in the ass means less time spent fucking women, which is one of the best ways to prevent overpopulation.

It is strange how pro-population pro "sustainability" positions are often just a front for socialism of the lowest common denominator.

The future needs to include more people (whole countries full!) who can afford to live on acreages and drive comfortable luxurious cars on beautifully landscaped highways across the countryside or into the gleaming cities. For those who choose to live in apartments instead of acreages, their dwellings should be large enough to enjoy all the comforts of home instead of being shoehorned into a "microflat." A spa bathroom and views on three sides is not too much for an apartment dweller to ask.

To achieve this vision, we need to stop talking about how many more compromises we can make so more people "can be accommodated." Life is not something to do efficiently. It is something to savour sensually. At heart, any distribution problem is incidental. It is mostly a production and consumption problem. We don't produce or consume enough of the stuff of life: comfort, economic security, leisure, luxury, intellect, architecture, arts, fitness, safety, gastronomy, etc.

The earth does have a finite capacity. However the limiting factor is not "how little can we endure living with so as to stuff the planet with even more people." Nor is it "How can we deprive and dilute the prosperity of others to allow yet another billion to eke out a minimum subsistence."

It is "How many people can your country support with an expanding lifestyle given the resources available and the carrying capacity of the land." And we've hit the limit in many places, and are rocketing toward it in others. More people are not the solution. Family planning and stable family sizes below the replacement rate are the solution.

Too many, not enough, it's all irrelevant. As if there was a "point" to any of it. We are here, we have abilities. That's it. That's the extent of the human experience. Now, whether we like it or not, we have based our society on one finite resource. When it runs out, life as we know it runs out with it.

I will be dead by the time humanity needs to start colonizing some other poor planet. Therefore, this is not my problem.

I suddenly have the urge to mosey on down to the sperm bank.

Today, the challenge remains to reverse the urbanization of mankind, or to effectively neutralize the impact of local overpopulation. It certainly is possible for the planet to support us, if we allow sustainability to guide our plans.

Even if we gave up burgers and became a pious, grain-only-eating people, living in a vast network of small towns over a large area - the reality is that we'd still have more babies and overshoot the carrying capacity of the land. It would just take longer, and there would be more people.

It is strange how pro-population pro "sustainability" positions are often just a front for socialism of the lowest common denominator.

Not really. Socialists believe there's vast resources that should be split amongst everyone. Peak oil theorists believe there will be scarce resources and that a collapse is inevitable.

So, quite frankly, go out and enjoy it while it lasts :)
