Doctor Who 2011

i really wish they would bring donna back.. she was my favorite.. just feels awkward with Amy and Rory.. Now river and donna would be great with the doctor

I don't think they have the budget to bring Catherine Tate back. Haha.

Would love them to bring back Martha, I was always a fan but she's tied up with Law & Order UK.

Craig Owens would make an excellent companion.

Or Sally Sparrow, from the episode "Blink".

Bringing Donna back would kill the character.

Can't see Freema Agyeman coming back at all anymore.

And Sally Sparrow would be great, but the actress is all kinds of career hot with Hollywood now so she'll never be a Who companion.

the doctor should regenerate as a 12 year old girl. they could get the actor who has been playing the young version of Amy. She has way more charisma and screen presence than Smith. anything, anything to shake this tired, tired series up and inject some innovation into it.

Agreed on all counts, especially re Sally Sparrow and actress Carey Mulligan who after An Education is very highly in demand. She's in Australia at the moment shooting The Great Gatsby with Dicaprio and Tobey Maguire. She's playing Daisy Buchanan.

I like Matt Smith in this role, and he was the reason I got into Doctor Who in the first place. The problem with Season 6 is it seems very VERY muddled and directionless. Not a good idea.

If you look at the past few seasons, there's always been a general running theme...

The cracks in the universe, the "bad wolf", the "he will knock four times".

This season sort of picks up on the "silence will fall" element but it's too mish mash to be of any use. Even the Doctor's fixed-point death is BLAH.

anyone else find it a bit odd that Rory and Amy stopped asking to find baby melody.. i mean she gives birth. baby gets taken away and the next episode its like.. eh shes fine.. we wont look for her.

The only real stand-out things for me in S6 = The Doctors Wife, the awesomeness of Canton Everett Delaware III . Of course River & Eleven cont'd to be fabulous.

S7 will be airing fall 2012.

That's almost a 1yr gap.

They'll have a lot of time to make improvements and find a new companion.

Yes, yes yes. I absolutely agree. The Doctor's Wife was easily the best episode of the season.

Love love love Canton.

He could be the new companion!

:D

The ending was really spooky. Can't wait for the next episode.

Thank heavens the series has picked up again. Craig is wonderful. Stormageddon. Hilarious. I like the links to the first ep - the stetson, the blue envelopes.

Also, I didn't mind the Amy and Rory cameo. I thought it was nicely done.

The 'kissing' scene was adorable. Love it. Can't wait for next week's ep.

If I hear one more person ask, "Why aren't Amy and Rory looking for their baby?", I'm going to scream.

THERE IS NO BABY!

The baby, raised by the Silents/Silence, regenerated as a little girl in1969 and became Mels, Rory and Amy's best friend. They grew up together and remained friends until she hijacked her way onto the Tardis in LKH and then regenerated as River Song.

There is no baby to look for. In 2011 she's River Song. At the end of The Girl Who Waited, Amy says, "if you see my daughter, tell her to visit her old mum." She's talkling about River Song.

I enjoyed The Girl Who Waited and the James Corden episodes very much.

The Minotaur episode has its moments, but i found it pretty boring.

Did we notice it's the red bowtie Doctor who's preparing for his death and took the envelopes to send the invitations.

It was the dark bowtie Doctor in the two previous episodes. "We're all flesh now."

^ I think the point of asking why they're not looking for the baby is the time gap between "A Good Man Goes to War" when the Doctor leaves to go find Melody and "Let's Kill Hitler" when it seems like everything has chugged along without regard for the huge events of the previous episode.

Where did the Doctor go, did he pursue Kovarian... these are the questions Amy and Rory should have asked, but didn't.

The whole Mels character came out of the blue. Seemed... tacked on, like a lot of the storylines in this season.

^^I didn't feel it was just tacked on. I think there just wasn't enough air time to develop it. Many fans have complained that LKH should have been a two-parter, so as to develop the Mels character and make a smoother reveal about River Song.

To me it was just a little bit of Moffet whimsy/irony that the "lost baby" grew up alongside Amy and Rory long before she was born.

On another point I'm fascinated that the person in the astronaut suit is the newly minted "Dr." Song, and the person on the beach shooting at the astronaut is the sometimes imprisoned "Professor" Song.

(After she fires the shots at the astronaut, I'm pretty sure she said "Of course.", perhaps realizing she couldn't kill herself.)

Are there a lot of gangers involved? Are there parallel universes involved? Did something happen when Amy started up the universe again? (And was Mels not at the wedding reception because River showed up, or because they hadn't thought up the Mels plotpoint yet.?)

I can't wait to see how all this gets tied up in 45 minutes this Saturday.

^^That article is a year old. I would think we'd know by now, if he wasn't going to do a third season/series.

It could have been a salary negotiation ploy last year.

The prequel to "Let's Kill Hitler" did address that a bit.

David Tennant only stayed 3 seasons. Meh. If they can find someone good to replace Matt Smith, why not?

Would love love love to see Michael Sheen in the role.

^ hm. i've heard this rumor before. it wouldn't upset or surprise me if he left.

i love him in the role but i only expected him to last 3 seasons, tbh.

i think that's the right time for a doctor to last, anyway. and companions should only last 1 yr.

I'm inclined to agree. I mean, I love Amy but she just got so boring when she married and Rory, I mean, he's nice but who cares?

Would love love love to see Michael Sheen in the role.

That would be an interesting one. I also wonder if Patterson Joseph is still interested in the role?

I hated the finale. It was really boring and I kept zoning out.

It was simply way too busy and I couldn't be bothered to figure it all out. Having a zillion twists and turns and references to previous episodes does not make a finale epic. I've already said it before, but I'm just not very fond of the convoluted, incoherent timey-wimey stuff.

Hopefully, S7's story arc will be much better and we'll get a kick-ass new companion.

I'm gonna go watch the S4 premiere of Merlin, now, and try to forget about how underwhelming this was.

Yup.

Some great lines though.

"I'm his... mother-in-law."

Agreed.

A significant lack of epicness to the whole affair. Anti-climactic. Circular. Expositional and just plain crap.

Also... if the Doctor did not tell River his name, does that not contradict what River said to the Doctor in "Silence in the Library" and "Forest of the Dead"?

Disappointed.
