Doctor Who Season 3

Any theories on how "he" RG? there are a lot running around over on the digitalspyforums: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=115 it's near the top in the doctor who sub forum. :)

I figured he must have done like he did in the movie (his little spirit thingy) took over a body and then using the chamelion arch, transfered his essence to the watch. In the story it talks about the old guy being found with the watch when he was 5 years old on a beach. Plus the end of the universe is so far away that no Time Lord had ever been there. Hence it was a good place for him to hide.

I'm sure the last two episodes will explain this in more detail hopefully!

I'm really likeing SIMM, he's not bad to look at either! :)

Well Blink was a lot better than I was expecting although I had to watch it twice as I started reading a magazine when it was first shown as I thought it was going to be another Love and Monsters. So I watched it all again on BBC3 the next night. I wouldn't say it was scary (obvioulsy Screwnutty and Mike_n_Herrin are big wusses) but I can imagine millions of kids being left terrified of statues.

Did anyone see the Doctor Who Confidential episode that screened after Blink? It was presented and directed by David Tennant. He talked to members of the crew about whether watching Doctor who as a chile lead them into the careers they are in now.

Utopia was brilliant. The funny thing for me with Derek Jacobi as the Professor was I thought he would have made a great replacement for the original Doctor, William Hartnell (if they ever decided to do a 10 Doctors episode). Then it turns out he's The Master.

It was great to have Jack back (although I was a bit disappointed when he only stripped down to a t-shirt). I loved the scene where he was telling Martha about being a Time Agent and the Doctor making out that Jack was inferior to him. the tension built up at the climax was great and now I can't wait for next week's episode.

John Simm is a great young actor (I didn't watch Life On Mars but I saw him in The Lakes a few years ago) but I don't fancy him.

The BBC website has been updated with the new pic for "The Sound of Drums"

wow...after this...just one more episode left until next year :(

anybody know if there going to make a christmas episode again?

Yes, there's going to be a Christmas episode. Kylie Minogue is guest starring (not playing a villain though).

Just over 8.5 hours to go!

I've just watched the last episode. John Simm brings a whole new feel to the programme. As a new Who viewer I enjoyed it, although I didn't find the big moments as dramatic as I thought they would be. Can't wait for next week's episode, especially as I think Martha's going to have a lot to do, rather than just mope.

I'm a new viewer too and I may not know a lot about the Master, but I loved this episode. Can't wait for next week!

(on a somewhat related note: will the BBC broadcast a new season of Torchwood during Doctor Who's absence?)

/\ welcome to Doctor Who! ;) and to you tze100

i expect the new season of torchwood and the first season of sarah jane adventures will be during the late summer/fall season to fill in our gaps for Who related stuff. ;)

i'm dying for my who fix. i had to watch the very first episode last night to get my fill. it's the first episode from way back in 1963. it was box set DVD that included the pilot, the first story, and the next 2 stories. very nice. ;)

welcome to the Tardis Tze100....yes I'm aware that it's bigger on the inside then on the outside! :D

well if you want a crash course on Doctor Who, or if you find yourself not sure about something then just pm one of us and we'll try to help! I'm always down to chat about who or anything! :)

If chatting with 30 year old geeks is too much for you...then you could also try out the BBC webside or wikpedia.com for more info!

Welcome!

Welcome DutchECK to the Tardis....yeah yeah you know the routine! big on the inside....god that joke gets old! :) LOL

All you need to know about the master is this.... If the doctor represents all that is good in the universe...then the master represents all that is evil. There the classic example of Ying and Yang. Batman and the Joker. Spiderman and Venom.

As for Torchwood, from the bbc press release....

BBC Three's Torchwood is back for a second series but this time it will premiere exclusively on BBC Two as confirmed by Jane Tranter, Controller of BBC Fiction, and BBC Two Controller Roly Keating.

Starring John Barrowman, Eve Myles, Burn Gorman, Naoko Mori and Gareth David-Lloyd, Torchwood has captivated audiences and smashed records.

It attracted an audience of 2.4 million viewers for the broadcast of its first two episodes - securing the highest-ever audiences for a BBC Three programme and the highest-ever ratings for a non-sport programme to air across all channels in digital history.

Filming is due to start in Cardiff in Spring 2007 and the series will hit screens later next year.

I've already extensively browsed Wikipedia for Doctor Who stuff... (procrastination purposes) but only seen a handful of Series 1 and 2 (I had no TV) plus the Black Guardian trilogy (because I quite fancied Peter Davison and Mark Strickson!)

Anyway was going to say something about Torchwood but realised it would be a (very minor) spoiler!

Personally I'm not too sure about John Simm as The Master (I can't explain why yet without spoiling it for others). It was still a great episode though and I can't wait to find out how they're going to resolve it.

Did anyone notice where the beat of the drums originates?

It was interesting to watch Doctor Who Confidential and see all the references to Mr Saxon since the series returned in 2005. I certainly missed a lot of them (even the one in Tochwood).

You know I can't help but wonder if the good doctor set this up during the first christmas special when he got the Prime Minister fired by simply saying "Doesn't she look tired to you?"

In the next episode it all goes a bit meta, and the Doctor and the Master team up to uncover how exactly they are trapped as characters in a cult BBC sci-fi programme.

Um...i didn't like it. sorry. it wasn't bad or anything, i just didn't like it. it seemed to go really fast but not really say anything. i did like a number of small things.

1. the drum beat...seems like it's part of the theme music.
2. jellie babies!
3. the quick simple way they explained how the master was brought back. although i don't think it necessarily explained how he was able to regenerate. ;)
4. the "is he your secrete brother" comment. i thought that was funny.

/\ welcome to Doctor Who! ;)
Welcome DutchECK to the Tardis....

Thanks, both. :-)
By 'new' viewer, I meant that I've not seen any of the old series, just the new ones. I believe I started with... *looks up name* The Long Game (1x07), but since then I've seen all new episodes, thanks to Belgian TV.

So yeah... I know the small on the outside, bigger on the inside bit ;)
Just wasn't acquainted with the Master yet, as he is one of the remnants of the old series. Thanks for the info, screwnutty

[the drum beat...seems like it's part of the theme music./QUOTE]
That's what I picked up on.

I felt at times John Simm was a bit too comical as the Master. The bit where he was showing the difference between happy and not happy was silly as was the conversation with the US President where he pretended to zip his mouth. I can't imagine Roger Delgado or Anthony Ainley pulling faces like that.

I liked the scene where the Doctor was explaining how the Master became evil.

Really? I loved those parts!! I love how this master is completely 100% psycho! I think it has something to do with the regen he went through. Though he's been killed so many times and brought back that anybody would go psycho!

I like how they made the US president a complete ass! Nice bush rip off. Two of my favourite lines...

"I am in power because the UK elected a Jackass!"

"If it's god's will, then I will be your master!"

Well...maybe that is what i don't like either. i don't need each regen of the master to be the same, since the doctor isn't. but i never got the impression the other masters were insane, just evil. they were cool and calm and very suave. this one is definitely insane. even DJ's master right before this one wasn't insane...or at least didn't act like it.

Well according to Russell T Davies on Doctor Who Confidential the Master is now supposed to be inasane.
