Doctor Who Season 3

But I'm still sticking to my idea that they're hinting that the Master is gay for the Doctor, so screw you, nut, you "screwnutty"! :p LOL j/k (*8*) (*8*) :-({|=

Thanks for the info about who liked Baker and who liked Davison and who liked the Baker-Davision hybrid. :D

Anyone hear the theory that the Master's wife was the Rani in human form?

LOL

You know. I think your right!! :D I was just so busy being all excited and happy that I didn't put much thought into it. But now that my mind has cleared and my fanboy excitement has calmed down! (good thing I don't have a boyfriend...my excitement on seeing this might have worn him out for the night! ;) ) You know I suspect they threw that in there so that the gay fans could get a chuckle. I mean cause simms did act very gay as the master (well in my opinion! :) )

Your welcome! Thank you for thanking me ..|

Heard that rumour too. But then how come the doctor didn't pick up on the rani? Unless female time lords have rings instead of stop watches? But you think the doctor would have caught that?

Has the rani and the master ever worked together? I can't remember.

Well, it would be the same as the reason he didn't "feel" that Professor YANA was the Master until after he switched back to full Gallifreyan form.

Unless female time lords have rings instead of stop watches?

Well, yeah it could be anything cuz you know they're just making a lot of this stuff up as they go along. The Doctor never displayed this ability, although it's arguable whether it was a good time to use it for any of the adventures we saw for the first 7 Doctors and McGann. Also, Peter Davison is a time traveller, so it's always a possibility, but of course it was interesting how we never heard him or any of the Doctors between him and Tennant mention "London Investigation 'N' Detective Agency" (since they hadn't come up with the idea until "Love and Monsters". So along those lines, I'm sure they can always retroactively change the idea to make it fit if they reveal that Lucy Saxton was the Rani.

Has the rani and the master ever worked together? I can't remember.

Not "work together" per se (certainly not something the Rani asked for), but they did meet for the first time (onscreen, anyway) in "The Mark of the Rani" (which I just recently watched the first half of). It's hard to say their relationship was more than just blackmailer and blackmailee, but what with all the stuff that's happened since then, things can always change, I guess.

Back to the Master's only known televised association with the Rani (since we don't know for sure that both Saxtons were renegade Gallifreyans, just yet) from "The Mark of the Rani". Any attempts to put the entire episode up on YouTube would no doubt be felled in short order by legal threat from the BBC, but here are a few short clips:

A custom made trailer for the ep

Here's a great clip where, even in captivity, Doctor manipulates the Master's distrust of the Rani, resulting in him ultimately freeing himself from both baddies' captivity (although he has to endure a stereotypical cliffhanger before he can get free... eheheh) --

A tribute to Anthony Ainley which includes the Master & the Rani having their semi-joint scheme backfire on them, although a warning... it has some non-Doctor Who appearances by Ainley you may not want to have to wait through if it takes a while for YouTube clips to fully load on your system

a ride in the tardis?

you saucy minx!

i'll pm you my spatial/temporal coordinates!

I saw it earlier today. i liked it! it was very nice to see peter davidson back in the role. the play between the two of them was neat. made me tear up a bit. i'm trying to see if i can download a higher quality version of it. ;)

however, if the 10th doc knew how to fix the problem because he saw him do it as the 5th doctor, then why wouldn't he know the master was still alive earlier as the 10th doctor?

Well i got a download with a much better resolution than what was on youtube, and full screen also. problem...no audio. i assumed it's an audio codec problem, but i updated to the latest k-lite mega codec pack and still no good. anyone get a version with nice video but no audio? i'm wondering if maybe it's not just me...

OK, well, you officially ruined any code for more racier flirting than the language for your exchange suggested with that last one... hehe

That's one of many things that you have to stretch to explain when they do these retroactive things. Keep in mind that, as far as we saw onscreen, the 10th Doctor didn't tell the 5th Doc exactly how far in the Doctor's own personal timeline he had traveled to meet himself, and the 5th Doc knew that the 10th Doc was apparently able to handle things himself, so there wasn't the need to ask him specific details as to exactly where, how and when the Master turned up. It was probably an egotistical act by the 10th Doc (who seemed like he was suffering from it a bit at the beginning there) to want to handle everything himself. As it worked out, the only one who was hurt by what the Master did at the very end (besides the Master himself, although I doubt it's the last we've seen of him) was the president of the US (which I don't believe anyone here has brought up the obvious parallels of), so why mess with what, at the end, was ultimately a good thing?

Also, this is hardly the first time when the Doctor had the opportunity to warn his past selves. He met himself at least three times (if you only count the televised episodes) in The Three Doctors, The Five Doctors, and The Two Doctors, and he didn't feel the need to change the timeline then, so it makes little sense for him to start doing so now. If anything, he would probably feel the need to warn the Fifth Doc that Gallifrey would be destroyed in his future, but he did state in Father's Day that changes in the timeline should be done extremely sparingly (which apparently included going back in time to avert the destruction of Gallifrey, so warning himself that the Master survived Gallifrey's destruction pales by comparison).

no audio. i assumed it's an audio codec problem, but i updated to the latest k-lite mega codec pack and still no good. anyone get a version with nice video but no audio? i'm wondering if maybe it's not just me...

How familiar are you with codecs? You should double-check afterdawn.com (I learned everything I needed to know about codecs from that site), and also exactly what type of file you're dowloading to make sure there isn't an obsecure codec you'll need to listen to audio.

The version I downloaded was just fine. You should always look for [MM] when you download anything from the Whoniverse because you know you're getting MadMartha's uploads, which are always the highest possible quality you can hope for. I've never had a single problem, audio, codec, or otherwise, once I've made sure I have basic .AVI/XVid related codecs on my system.

/\ well....ok let me explain myself a little fuller. i don't need it to make sense really, but I thought it was odd they threw the master stuff in there after making such a big deal out of the doctor thinking he was the last. all he'd have to know is that in the form that the 5th doctor saw him as (didn't matter which regen it was) the master was still around. since the 10th doctor is only from after the time war, then he should have known.

the other times the doctor has meet past selves, the time lords were still around. they were also involved in him meeting past selves on each occasion (although for the 2 doctors that maybe debatable). one generally held belief is that the time lords wiped the memories of the meetings from everyone's minds, including the doctor's or at any rate it was obvious he forgot what happened. this is made more clear in that in school reunion sarah clearly didn't remember the events in the 5 doctors since the last time she thought she saw him was when he dropped her off in aberdeen. And the doctor also said in that episode that he had regen "half a dozen times since we last meet" implying he also didn't remember meeting her in the 5 doctors.

the one i downloaded last night turned out to be 300 and some MB, so i'm redownloading a smaller one from MM. most of my DW downloads are from her, but i didn't see one yesterday so i went with the only one i saw that had any seeds. cross your fingers! ;)

edit got the one from MM, and it's great. :gogirl:

This is true... he would know he was around, but what would he do with that information, really? It's just an academic bit. Yeah, I guess you could put it together that when he saw himself in the mirror, he would think back to that time he saw himself that way and put it all together and remember the Master being mentioned, and know he would meet him again one day (although he wouldn't really know what to do with the information). But remember the other thing he said... Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey... so perhaps he didn't know the Master was still around, but he did know how to fly the TARDIS. I know that doesn't make much sense at all, and is totally inconsistent, but that's why I don't always care for these retcon type stories.

On the other hand, perhaps he was lying when he claimed to know any Time Lord by them being around (because that certainly didn't work for the 3rd Doctor when he saw the Ainley Master in The Five Doctors since he only knew the Delgado Master up until that point). Perhaps he knew it was the Master because his earlier regeneration had the information from meeting himself! While on the subject of lying, he might have been lying about only knowing how to fly the TARDIS because "he" saw "himself" do it. Maybe it was more that practice makes perfect. I suppose we'll never know until we get some more back story from the writers and producers.

Martha: I had a cousin, Adeola. She worked at Canary Wharf, never came home.
Doctor: I'm sorry.
Martha: [softly] Yeah.
Doctor: I was there in the battle... [depressed look]
Martha: I promise you Mr. Smith, we will find a way out. If we can travel to the moon, then we can travel back. There's got to be a way.
Doctor: It's not "Smith." That's not my real name.
Martha: Who are you then?
Doctor: I'm the Doctor.

I'm going to go with Cousin on this one Alex for $100.00 dollars!

BTW, I forgot to get around to this, but thanks for doing that transcript (did you do that by hand, or did you find the script somewhere to snippet out the relevant bit and copy and paste it onto your reply?). I actually wasn't really that interested in every bit of dialogue when the episode first came out for some reason and wasn't familiar with the dialogue (not to mention I didn't know that she had played another character in the second season, because I didn't recognize her from that one role), so I wouldn't even have noticed that they inserted that bit into "Smith and Jones" if it weren't for you transcribing it, so thanks much! I am forever indebted to you, and you can take me for a ride in your TARDIS any time. ;) ;)

My boyfriend is from the 51st century... they are very evolved.
Not only don't they have any hangups about affectionality/sexuality, but they've learned life is too short to be so pathetically insecure. Trust me, he'll be fine.

If you're lucky, we might even let you join us for a threesome.. ;):sex:

Shame though, I could have shown you my sonic screwdriver! ;) Lot of things you can do with a sonic screwdriver you know! ..|

Yeah, but knowing you, you'd mistakenly cause a rip in the fabric of space/time... :p
