  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Does anyone else prefer their middle name more?

I've always gone by my middle name. Of course for enrolling in school, applying for jobs and other legal matters they always want your first name and confusion always ensues. It's a lifelong chore to remind people that, yes, those are both my names but I go by my middle name. Sheesh!

I hear ya on that one man... was always a pain. Correcting teachers the first week of school, especially, was a pain. Especially now, being in college, where they tend to forget them anyway.

hmmm. Hampton?

as in, Hampton J Pig

And Gogo is insane!

i use my middle name (nathaniel) as my pen name but i go by my first name (jason) the rest of the time. i love my middle name, but i like the full version of it better than the short version.

Hmm....

Look what the cat dragged in....

For a period of, maybe, ten years, I was known to everyone on Whidbey Island by my middle name.

It seemed to fit at the time.....

I much prefer My Middle name in full over my 1st name in full, but i go by a shortened middle name

I went by what would be considered my middle name until I was twelve or so. I didn’t even know it was my middle name. The reason I was called by my middle name is what would be considered my first name is a title given to all males on my fathers side. Now I go by RJ or Toad and have for years.

As a somewhat weird and interesting side note; what would be considered my last name is my fathers first name in his country. Also my middle name is my last name spelled backwards. My teachers growing up, when I went by my middle name, loved to point that out to the class. Then they always made everyone spell their last name backwards to see what it would be. It was completely embarrassing at the time, now I know how unique my names are.

I don't go by either of my given names, my grandfather is English and so his, my fathers and therefore my names are a little to prissy for me. I got called by my nickname at the age of 1 month and have been called that ever since

Example.. I like Kristopher (my middle name) more then Brandon. I don't know why.. maybe its different then the common Christopher. Growing up many of my friends called me Kris and some called me Brandon. Now as a young adult I like Kris more. Maybe also cuz alot of Brandon's I met were thuggy and left a bad impression of the name.

I'm not trying to be mean or laugh, but Brandon? it's so not a thuggish? name. If a thug got in my face and his name was Brandon I wouldn't be able to not laugh in his face! Either way you have a nice name.

Well, I don't HAVE a middle name, and considering growing up I wasn't fond of my first name, I didn't really miss not having a middle one. I'm sure it would've been something else I would've been made fun of as a kid.

I've never thought about what I would even WANT as a middle name. Hmmm.

My parents believe in the ways of the old Italians.
As is Italian custom, being the first born male child to my father, I was named Joseph
after my grandfather (my dads father)
My dads name which is Charles is my middle name and I always use my full name,
Joseph Charles

Always gone by my first name, Luke. Very few people know my middle name because I HATE it.

i actually don't even use my real name now :D I preferred to be called by nickname... :)

But most of the time since I was a kid, all the people who knew me always called me by my surname. sigh. :(

I think Brandon is a sexy name.

My first name on my birth certificate is John, but everyone I know calls me either Wes or Wesley.

Oh, you thought I was justBob?! I'm so honored. But yeah, I took this username because my first choice was taken.

Oh, and by the way, back.

I go by my middle name. (for some reason both of my brothers do too.) The bad part is when you have to explain it to someone reading from some official list, or when you are trying to fill out a form that has spaces for "First name" "Middle Initial" and "Last Name". The good part is that it sounds so much more important to start your name with an initial..... i.e. J. Paul Getty, F. Scott Fitzgerald, M. Night Shyamalan, C. Thomas Howell, J. Edgar Hoover)

That's true. My name sounds very impressive when I write it like that.
