  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Does anyone else prefer their middle name more?

My middle name is too blah and common. It's my daddy's name; it was originally supposed to be Christopher, but my daddy told my mama at the last minute to make it his name.

I've always gone by my first name and everyone hates my middle name, so yeah.

I hate my first name. It's a name for a girl. My mother has said she wanted to name me Samuel, after my great-grandfather. Okay, that would've been great so why didn't she? Anyway, I was forced to go by my hated first name. now, when asked, I go by my middle name, Martin. I think that name is connected with Mars, god of war. I rather fancy that. I once had a supervisor at work who hated me (and vice versa). She tried to humiliate me by spelling my name Martian. It so backfired on her because I love being an alien. Soon, everyone was calling me Martian.

My dads side of the family started a tradition with having the boys middle name Joseph. My dad has it, my grand-dad had it and it was my great grand-dads first name. Incidently my great grand-dads middle name was James which is my first name.

However I don't go by either of those. I get called by my last name; Boote, said boot. The e is silent, shhhhhhhhh. I never picked it, just started getting called it when I was about 10 or 11 and its pretty much stuck since. Probably doesn't help that I've known a lot of James's in my time, none of which actually were known by their first names.

If I had to choose between James and Joseph I'd just go with James. Joseph is too long and I don't like Joe, even though thats how my grand-dad went by to hating his name of Bernard. I do however like Jim, but only one persons ever called me that.

I never revealed my middle name when I was young. Anyone who found out would shorten it to Clem. I do not like Clem. Always have gone my my first name.

Yes, It's Nicholas and it was my Dads name also. I prefer it to my first name.

My brother goes by his middle name because he could never pronounce Santiago correctly when he was younger.

We have a line of Santiago's for the first name in the family. . . but I, Mark, am the combo breaker. My dad expects me to name my son Santiago as well. Why can't I start my own army of Marks, eh? :grrr:

Though I'm not especially fond of my first name (Robert, for those who haven't been following along), I vastly prefer it to my middle name, which sounds a little too Appalachian for me (Eugene).

Oddly enough, I get very pantsy when I'm doing data entry at work and the client doesn't have a middle initial. It leaves a blank spot in the table and ruins the balance of the labels. I want to start a pool of extra middle names to give these poor schmoes.
