There used to be a "what book are you reading" thread that used to pop back up weekly in hot topics. It got a lot of posts.


BTW I'm currently reading The Bourne Deception by Eric Van Lustbader
 
Just started "The Lost Symbol" by Dan Brown and after that will tackle Michael Connelly's new one "Dragons"
 
I usually read multiple books at a time. Right now:

2) [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Histories-Oxford-Worlds-Classics/dp/0199535663/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1256861026&sr=1-5"]Herodotus[/ame] (a newish translation by Robin Waterfield, who in my view is the best translator of ancient Greek today)
3) [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Heidegger-Hippo-Through-Those-Pearly/dp/0670020834"] Heidegger and a Hippo Walk Through Those Pearly Gates[/ame], by Thomas Cathcart and Daniel Klein.
 
Currently I'm reading A Feast for Crows. It's part of the A Song of Ice and Fire series. REALLY good read, for anyone even slightly interested in the Fantasy genre.

It's an awesome series, but just be prepared to left hanging as it's not finished yet and it's been years since the last book.

I just started reading Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn Trilogy. Hasn't really done much for me yet, but I'm still near the start of the first book.
 
I'm reading "Independent People" by Haldor Laxness. My partner is reading "The Lost Symbol" by Dan Brown.
 
I have a number of fictional series and I usually read one series through and go on to another. (e.g. the various Shannara series, Lord of the Rings trilogy, the Harry Potter series, Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot, Doyle's Sherlock Holmes, MC Beeton's Agatha Raisin and Hamish MacBeth, the Spellsinger series.)

I also have a bunch of individual books that I mix in as well.

Oh, and I truly enjoy browsing through Uncle John's Bathroom Readers. I have 7 or 8 of those.

I used to get a lot of my books from the local library when they had individual fictional sections, such as 'Mystery' or 'Science Fiction/Fantasy'. It was easy to discover new authors that way.

For some unknown reason, though, they eliminated all the sections a number of years ago and put all the books in alphabetical order. So, if you don't know the name of the author, you're not likely to discover them except by accident.

(The computer searches may now be sectioned, but they weren't the last time I was there.)

However, I'll check out Bidulka. I'm ashamed to say that I've never heard of him (or Russell Quant). !oops!
 
I've been reading the Sookie Stackhouse series after I got into True Blood, I'm on the eighth book right now then I will go on to the ninth book.
 
I don't know why the book threads don't generate more regular response? :confused: I wish they did.

Martin alienated a segment of his loyal readership by the sloooowwwww pace of his publishing. The last book also included some longwinded departures from the foregoing narratives. For me at least it seems like he's lost direction or interest in his own story. I'm not sure I want to pick up the next book; it's disappointing.

Right now, I'm reading Sundiver by David Brin. I think reading it is an effort to fully realize my nerdiness: it includes, as characters, intelligent dolphins and chimpanzees. (And yeah, that was the impetus for picking it up.) I've been on a quasi-stoned Technological Singularity kick lately and Sundiver followed in the wake of that.

If you haven't read the Hamish MacBeth series, you should. He's quite the character and Lochdubh (pronounced 'LOCK-doo', apparently) is quite the little village. And Beeton being the writer she is, she makes you see Scotland in your mind.
 
I just finished "The Lost Symbol" last night and it is amazing. I couldn't put it down! Next on the list David Baldacci's new release "True Blue".

I'm only a third of the way through AFfC, but I'm definitely feeling the loss of direction, and I'm certainly less interested. I mean, yes, I AM interested still, but it's just not as captivating. I flew through A Storm of Swords in a week, but A Feast for Crows is really dragging.
 
I'm reading "Mysterious Skin" by Scott Heim right now....it's my choice for my book club this month. It's one of my favorite movies but I've never read the book and a few others in my club thought it sounded interesting so I picked it. And so far it's generated a lot of posts to our blog which the first two books of the club did not(cause they were horrible books..lol)
