I also want to add that some that don't believe in this GREAT Spirit may not even know that they believe it, or maybe never will realize that they actually do believe in this GREAT Spirit 'god.'

Did you ever believe in yourself? Think about it! That SPIRIT lives inside of all people, and one thing for sure this spirit is in you, is like another person and this spirit can not disobey the Great Spirit 'YHWH'.

Watch this, now...

Many of these so called straight people who denies themselves as "GAYS" are people that deny the GREAT Spirit because they don't believe themselves and are astray from the true person that this SPIRIT has place upon that boy life WHO created him, and created the NATURE of him.

No wonder many are not happy, because what Satan is trying to do is to slave them and using religion to use evil men to indoctrinated them out of FEAR with all these false teachings! The Great SPIRIT is trying free them out of bondage just like my GOD has did to me.

;)

ONLY a people like you who is confuse and can not see what is in the spiritual realm as myself... It's OK, the GREAT Spirit allowed this to happened. I will never know for sure, till I die.

...Neither does the inability of science to disprove the existence of God (science can't really disprove anything)...

I think there is a fundamental misstatement there. Science only disproves things. Science doesn't ever prove anything. We can only disprove the null hypothesis and the remaining hypothesis (and the evidence that supports it) is considered correct until it is disproved. What you may have meant (I'm not sure) is that science can't disprove the existence of something, which is true. For example, science can't prove there isn't a bigfoot, aliens, the loch ness monster, ghosts, or god.

Science gives us clues to understand how the GREAT Spirit operate nature or anything physical. There is nothing wrong for Scientists to explore.

I think it is a profound mistake to suggest that the possibilities of god existing and god not existing are equally probable.

I can accept that people will express doubt about the evidence one way or the other, but to say that either situation is equally likely would be more extremely unusual than actually being able to solve the problem once and for all.

So, is God real, a figment of someone's imagination, or we just have no way of telling?

I personally believe in GOD, but couldn't care less if others do or do not. I enjoy prayer, church, reading the Bible, and the like, but if you don't, then don't join in. To each his own.

For me, GOD speaks to me and I see HIM in everyday life. Everything from the beauty of our world (gotta love the changing of the seasons), all the way down to our digestive system (it's amazing how the human body works).

Whatever your response, then what is the rhyme and reason for everything? Why do we exist and what do we exist for?

My gut response, is that we exist in order to use our talents and wisdom to help one another and to improve our world. But really, you've posed a philosophical question and I'm not an introspective person. :-)

A few points.

Beyond that, it is wrong to focus so exclusively on the reproductive fitness of individuals when you are talking more broadly about the reproductive fitness of a whole species. Not all women have to be fertile for human beings to survive as a species. Not all men have to father a child. If you think about it, since we are such social animals, so highly dependent on one another, and since the rearing of our young is takes so much longer and is so much more complicated than for many other animals, there are many ways in which an individual member of the species who does not himself reproduce can help increase the chances of the species as a whole reproducing. He or she can help rear children (including children who have been orphaned), help gather food, help build shelters, help fight enemies, get doctorate degrees in medicine or engineering and heal the sick or find cures for diseases, etc. Consider the reproductive fitness of an ant colony or a beehive by comparison.

You've said exactly was I was thinking. Spot on! ..|

Its tricky, all my life I have been raised a Catholic. Probably around 15 I started questioning my belief. I just didn't believe it or felt like I was connecting to the bible.

I then just became an atheist and told myself that God is not real and the bible is just bullshit.

Now I realized something new and my thinking and views have changed. I still know the bible is bullshit. But I now believe in a higher being who systematically created everything and everyone. In reality he doesn't have to be a being at all but it helps me personify something I don't know about it. He doesn't need praise, he doesn't need faith, he doesn't need fear. He is just a medium that created all that we know and don't know. I just know that there is something unexplainable for the reason we live in a world so fucked right now. I wish I could find out the truth but to me this is my theory.

I'm not trying to force this on anyone. I don't care if I'm right or wrong, and I don't care if anyone has anything to counteract my belief.

That is pretty much the same thought process I have.

Although I was never an Atheist, because I think that is just as radical as someone who is a staunch believer in a chosen Faith .... I have went from also being a Catholic to an Agnostic.

The Creator (being or force) was responsible for the creation of the universe and life. However, that is pretty much the extent of his/it's involvement.

The Bible was written by Man, and anytime Man has his hand in something along the lines of faith, unfortunately it can not be trusted or taken literally as the truth. The Bible, in my view, are simply stories with some of them having "morals" attached to them.

When you look at it from the perspective of it simply being a book, it really is a phenomenal book. It's just a shame that it is perceived that we are demonizing the book, when in reality, what we instead are really demonizing is the fact that people actually take this book literally, which influences policy in society.

I intentionally posted this thread in HT because I didn't want folks feeling hindered by a no-flame zone policy. Besides, I thought I would get more of a response in HT than in the Religion forum.

I think it is great to see this in hot topics - it has brought forward the opinions of so many people who don't follow these kinds of discussions in Religion, Spirituality & Philosophy, and I'm glad to see the conversation get wider.

Anyway, thanks for the hot topic, and certainly anyone who has enjoyed this topic should check out RS&P

Also,
I think it is fascinating that people discover something unexplainable, and then explain it as being god.
