So sick and tired of this.

Gay dramas "Looking" gets cancelled after season 2 while "Orange is the new Black" lesbian drama gets a fourth season.

Why?

Why is it the world can accept lesbians but not gays?

Thank goodness I have never watch a single episode of "OITNB" and I don't intend to ever.

On the bright side...will Lexington got a hot new boyfriend on nashville

Lesbians are definitely lot more widely accepted than gay men. Why? Straight plebs who think "DYKES R HAWT BUTT FAGITS R GROS ND I HAYT DEM".

Maybe they decided to keep the show with the better ratings.

Without having seen OITNB how do you know it was kept on air because it was socially more acceptable. And that the painfully dull storylines of Looking had nothing to do with it?

Looking was a great opportunity wasted.

As someone whose actually seen Orange is the New Black, I had no idea that it was a lesbian drama. Last I saw of it, that young Hispanic girl was getting ready to have that male guard's baby, and was actually in love with him. When did that show become just about lesbians?

One lesbian apparently equals the entire cast of a gay male show? I dunno really.

Maybe it's like that statistic where if there's 17 percent of women in a place the men thinks it's 50/50.

-granted, with that I'm surprised the op didn't try the "Why are trans people accepted more than gay men." since there's a trans woman on the show.

(Having a man watch a show because he wants to convert/fuck you, aka, straight men and the lesbian fantasy, isn't considered acceptance by any reasonable person)

Only watched one season of OITNB and it definitely didn't seem like a lesbian drama to me. Even if it was, it has nothing to do with standards and more to do with Looking just not being a very good show.

Looking was a horrible show about a bunch of boring losers.

Nothing interesting happened and they managed to make a very boring show about gay men in SF. That couldn't have been easy to do.

Orange Is The New Black isn't about "being a lesbian." I'm not a fan of that show, either, but it's at least "about" something. It's not just a show that desperately treads water while it shows boring people giving a shallow "Gay 101" lesson.

I have no facts on this, and it is unlikely the studio would release this info either. But the channels which screen the gay soap would probably have a contingent of supporters, and also a horde of detractors. If the stations and producers were also recieving anti-gay hate and threats from the latter, it would be in their interests to minimize the potential harm to their employees by stopping the gay soap. In effect, they're being bullied into it. It's just a conjecture, but it seems plausible, given the rabid anit-gay hysteria whipped by the churches etc...

@JPGhost,

Didn't listen to the soundtrack yet (in the middle of listening to izombie) but I like the floral pattern pictured. Reminds me of Arsnic & Old Lace for some reason.

Possible, but QAF lasted for a while. There's also been a few 'gay themed'(?) shows since then, so. Tho if the new show had the same explicit sex as QAF, yeah, I can see a lot of detractors lining the walls with threats.

Yeah it isn't that. Loads of people were really up for Looking when it first came out, but from the off it was a story about boring men doing boring things (the first thing I ever heard about the show was about how boring all the characters were and that was a week 1 review). It really didn't pick itself up from there and a lot of the people complaining about it were gay people.

OISTNB is, on the other hand, a really interesting show that tells us stories from people we don't tend to hear about, and also challenges the systems we put people in at all stages of life. I would much rather have that then a show about middle class white gay guys going on dull dates.

Simple. Having seen both, the clearly better written, interesting and more of a storyline tv show won. So it's getting renewed. :)

I liked both shows (Looking more, to be honest), but it´s all about the ratings. Orange Is The New Black has more advantages: a kickass creator who also did Weeds (one of my favorites series), somewhat more popular cast, it´s mostly comedy, it was promoted differently. For fucks sakes, most gays I know didn´t even hear of Looking. At least we get a movie, which if it´s 2 hours, will have the same amount of time as 6 episodes, which is the whole first series.

Agree that Looking has a kickass soundtrack.

And this is just from season 2.

I thought it was because OITNB is watchable and quite good, whereas Looking turned out to be pointless shit.

I didn't realise it was the popularity of gays vs lesbians which swung it.

Looking got canceled because it was boring and OITNB gets viewers.

Looking just didn't work and it has zero to do with gays it was just boring and lacked a decent story.
