Ebola has reached Texas

Yep, pretty much every single news media operation in Dallas-Fort Worth confirms that Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas has a patient in its care that has indeed tested positive for Ebola. More from WFAA-TV Channel 8...

A patient in a Dallas hospital has been confirmed to have the deadly Ebola virus, the Centers for Disease Control said Tuesday.

That person has been held in "strict isolation" at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas as he was evaluated for possible exposure to the virus. There are no plans to transfer the patient to a specialized hospital with a biocontainment unit at this time.

This is the first-ever case of this strain of Ebola confirmed in the United States. Officials would not confirm or deny if he was a U.S. citizen, only saying he was "visiting family in the U.S."

"I have no doubt that we will control this case of Ebola, so that it does not spread widely in this country," said Dr. Tom Frieden, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention at a Tuesday afternoon news conference in Atlanta. "It is certainly possible that someone who has had contact with this patient could develop Ebola. But there is no doubt in my mind that we will stop it here."

it's da popyclypse, da popyclypse!

This person was actually sent home after first visiting the hospital because his condition was not recognized despite his travel history. Sounds like something out of a movie.

"No, no mr. smith. You don't have an emergency. Just get yourself down to the pharmacy at the crowded shopping centre, and buy yourself some cough syrup."

Just an isolated case so far. Would be worrisome otherwise.

I heard this news report on the way home tonight.

I hear and understand all the safety precautions and minimal risks.
Having said that, it just got a *little* closer to me - as the owner of our company, COO, and Sales Manager were all in Dallas this past weekend at our Distributor Association meeting. They flew in the Owner's turbo-prop, and were at the Four Seasons Las Colinas, so the likelihood of exposure is nil. Still, that niggling bit of hair raising angst . . .

Well i said it may happen, took longer than 7 days though. Still not convinced that it is only airborne. Too many scientific debates about this possibility....

Hmmm...just imagine what the people with limited means or low wages will do with no access to health care should they become ill...

No public option may just be a death sentence one day for the very people who opposed it....

I certainly hope not....

The thing is, he is more likely to now live because the CDC will release the same meds they used on the missionaries who were shipped home.

The big cities in TX are Blue, but the overall complexion of the state is Red - moving to purple.

My first thought when I read this yesterday was: "Maybe now is a good time to go the Greek Islands for a month or so"

Praying they keep this isolated and he is the only one with it in the US- the world has enough problems as it is. BTW why aren't the airlines grounding flights out of these countries?

Leave it Perry to politicize this. Something about immigrants. :(

I guess it would be interesting to know the last time Dallas had a riot of any sort versus other major US cities.

Oh, I am so sorry I looked. The first actual riot I found online was 1973. It was a case of a police officer murdering a 13-yr.-old in a squad car as he was handcuffed. The bastard got away with it, only serving less than a three year sentence for murder. That riot should have brought the house down. What an outrage.

I guess the good news is that is definitely not the Texas we have today, contrary to the rants of the Left in HT.

Wow...

Murdering an unarmed and handcuffed 12 year old in cold blood. All over $8. Which may not even have been stolen. All likely because he was Mexican American. :(:( What a price paid to galvanize the community and fight for Latino rights.
