It's been very cold that past few days. I'm sitting at the computer, wrapped up in a blanket with a cup of cocoa. I have been rather busy lately and have not had much time to spend on JUB. I feel like a complete stranger now. I know I'd better get back in the thick of things or I'll be a distant memory.:(

Who will be the next President of the United States? It seems that voters have begun the slow process of deciding who will get to the end of the race. The only thing predictable about this election, is it's unpredictability.

Obama has had a going showing thus far. I feel that he and Hillary will be close on most primaries except for the South. I don't think that Hillary will do as well among the more moderate democrats of the South. Obama, on the other hand, may do very well in states like NC and SC. Still, it seems impossible to predict anything in this election!

I wish that John Edwards could push ahead. At least he would be a good Democratic choice for Vice President. I shouldn't write him off in this unusual election year. John McCain has done well thus far. If we're going to have a Republican in the White House, I'd rather it be McCain...|

Whether or not the Democrats can win will depend entirely on the Republican they are up against. I don't feel that the country would elect someone as conservative as Huckabee. While McCain is doing well, I expect another candidate will soon take the lead.

On to other things...What about poor Britney Spears? This is obviously a girl with psychiatric problems that has led to self medication with alcohol and drugs. If she doesn't get consistent professional help, she will die like Anna Nicole Smith. A lot is being made out of Dr Phil's visit with Britney. Some say it was a publicity stunt, but I think he is genuinely concerned.

:( Well, here I sit with my foot in a soft cast. Yesterday I twisted my foot and cracked some of the fine bones in the upper area. It's already my "bad" foot as I have broken it several times before and have significant osteoarthritis.

It didn't seem like a big deal when I first twisted it. Of course I did let out a yell. The problems began late that night with pain and swelling. By morning my foot was hot, red, swollen and extremely painful.

I'm supposed to stay of my foot as much as possible and keep it propped up. I guess sitting at my computer loosely defines staying off my foot. This is all aggravating because it's my right foot and it's too painful to drive. :grrr:

All afternoon Friday, the weather forecasters have been making such a big deal about the winter storm we are supposed to be having right now. I should know from experience that when snow is predicted, it will not snow. All of the biggest snow storms we have had were at the surprise, and embarrassment, of the weatherman.

The saga of snow was supposed to materialize at 4pm on Saturday. It was 10pm before the the rain changed over to a pitiful light snow. It looks like it will all be over by midnight. Of course the winter storm warning has been cancelled. Unless there is a surprise, this is the end of the big snow storm.](*,)

Right now, John McCain is the front runner in the GOP presidential race. Giuliani has dropped out and endorsed McCain. I'm not sure how Romney, who is McCain's most significant competition, will do. At least for now, there is a strong indication that McCain will be the Republican nominee for president.

John Edwards has dropped out of the race. I think the benefits to Clinton and Obama will be minor. Obama may get more support from Edwards supporters. The Clinton/Obama race has been neck in neck. In Florida, Clinton had a significant win over Obama. There is a good chance that Hillary will be the Democratic nominee for president. It's way too early to count Obama out, he still has a good chance.

Here is my prediction of 2 scenarios. Obama vs McCain: McCain is going to win. McCain is moderate enough to gather some Democratic votes. Clinton vs McCain: A very, very close race. Almost too close to call. With an excellent voter turnout, Clinton will win. There is not going to be any landslide win for either candidate.

Saturday morning my Uncle died. He was in the hospital recovering from surgery and doing very well. He developed a lung infection that killed him in 12hrs. I'm going to the funeral tomorrow.:(

Family funerals have become so frequent that I keep my suit pressed and ready all of the time.:(

:grrr:Damn, damn, damn, damn, damn! That's how I feel. My foot is swollen with gout. I can't even stand to wear shoes. If that's not bad enough, I'm crashing down into one of my low moods. My Uncle's funeral was yesterday. A fight has erupted over his estate. I'm glad that I'm not involved. Greed will ruin a person. "The love of money" is certainly the root of all evil.

While driving to the store yesterday, I noticed some daffodils blooming along the roadside. What a pleasant indication that Spring isn't far away. I decided to stop by my Grandparents old home and enjoy the fragrance of a winter blooming honeysuckle. I cut a few branches to carry back to the house and put in a vase.

Democrats have every reason to be excited about the election this year. Both Clinton and Obama are very good candidates. We should be happy to have either nominated. It looks like it's going to be Clinton or Obama vs McCain. I don't know who John Edwards is going to endorse. He's most likely to endorse Obama.

I want to wish a Happy Valentine's Day to scrubb22, dpnice, sausy, gl247, absolut345, jacobim, Riverrick, Raybee, NaughtyAngel, croynan, Windsors, moonybig, and all the good people of JUB that I forgot to name!(*8*)(*8*)(*8*)(*8*)

First, some observations about the current election.

On the Republican side, things seem cut and dry as to who will be the nominee. Huckabee can't possibly catch up with McCain. That leads me to wonder why Huckabee is sticking it out. At this point, he's a thorn in McCain's side. I was a bit surprised that Romney endorsed McCain.

I wonder if the social conservatives will vote for McCain, or be so disenfranchised, that they write in a candidate. It looks like evangelicals are being pushed to the side in this election.

The Democratic race is still close. Obama has momentum, but Clinton could easily catch up. She needs to win Texas. In the end, I think that the nominee will be decided by super delegates. I now wonder if an endorsement from Edwards would make much difference.

I'm a bit worried about the Democratic party splitting. If Obama doesn't win the nomination, will his supporters get angry and refuse to vote? The same question goes to Clinton supporters if Obama wins. I hope the Democrats will stay united, no matter who is nominated. A split in the party will be disastrous, and ensure McCain's win.

I have been working on my family history. My cousin called and wanted some information. I told her I had to dig up the papers. The are not in order and it will take some time to get them sorted. I've also been browsing garden catalogues. I think I might plant a native wildflower garden. Columbines would be nice.:-)

I can no longer deny the fact that I feel lower than a fish in a dry pond. I've tried sugar coating my feelings with humour, but that doesn't work. I'm depressed and very angry. I'm in one of my vulnerable states right now. I'm likely to get upset or angry over the least little thing. I hope this doesn't last long. I enjoy JUB, but may have to leave if not better. This has been going on for some time. I think I'll call my Doctor and see if my medication needs adjusting.:(:mad:

I knew it would happen sooner or later. A vote to ban gay marriage by amending the NC constitution. No one cared that much about it until now. An election is coming up, so playing on the fear and ignorance of people can win votes. As I understand, many conservatives and some "black leaders" want the ban.

I am afraid that the constitutional ban my pass in NC. Gay marriage is a civil rights issue that must be decided by the Supreme Court. It should never be decided by popular vote. Those who opposed gay marriage, know that they have a good chance of winning if they let people vote on the issue. Only in a few States, did the ban on gay marriage fail. Even those states that allow gay marriage are under constant threat by groups that seek to take away that right.

I'll try to be optimistic and hope that the ban will not pass in NC. The silly thing is that gay marriage is already banned in NC, just not in the constitution. It's all about politics, dirty politics.

A happy Thanksgiving to my American JUB friends. I'll be spending Thanksgiving with my Sister. All I have to do is cook a few pies! I hope that everyone, no matter what your situation, will find time for peace and reflect on things that you are thankful for. Sausy, I don't know where you are, but have a great Thanksgiving.(*8*)

Now on to politics... I don't see anyone in the Republican field that I prefer to President Obama. Not that I expected anyone to be better. I didn't think that the Republican candidates would prove to be so awful. Cain and Perry are on the wain, Newt is rising and Romney is holding his own. The rest are insignificant. At this point it's difficult to say whether it will be Romney or Gingrich. If I had to choose the lesser of two evils, I would choose Romney.

The Penn State scandal has certianly exploded, mostly due to media hype. It seems that something very awful did indeed happen, and innocent childred were hurt. I hope they find justice and those most guilty will be punished. I read the very disturbing grand jury report. If all of it is true, Sanduski is a terrible predator and no child is safe around him!:grrr:

Obama vs Romney, or at least that's what it looks like right now. The Democrats could not be in a better position to win. I have never seen the Republican party attempt to self destruct in this manner. The fact that Rick Santorum got so many votes shows how out of touch they are.
Of course, Romney has a chance of winning if he can appeal to moderates and independents. Romney is alien to me, a person that I'm not willing to choose over President Obama. No doubt President Obama will be attacked badly by his opponents. It is very upsetting to see the number of people who think that Obama is a closet Muslim who was secretly born in Africa. Such ignorance is astounding!

As some may have noticed, or perhaps don't care, I am having a particularly bad spell of depression. Got an appointment with my Doctor next week. I'm trying to keep a sense of humour and remind myself that it's only temporary. Hang in there Eddielee, just hang in there!:(

I hope it is not as dark as it seems. I hope your world will lighten and that you will be able to celebrate your life. The community needs you and are pulling for you. You are never alone or you are only isolated if you want to be. Hands are held out to you. Hope you reach out and hold one.

Rand

I hope your mood lifts soon…it's good that you have an appointment to get help for that. If you haven't already, maybe try making a note of anything new going on in your life that might be having an effect, from diet, to social, to seasonal…whatever might give the doctor a lead.

Even if there is nothing obvious and specific, it helps to write, not necessarily about how you feel, but about what's going on.
