I think that's just a coincidence. Fans (in these forums) were bitching about the show way back when Paula was still a judge. The ratings were slipping way back then. In fact, I recall discussions about whether or not the 'Paula' thing was just a ply to try to get the ratings back up again. It didn't work and ratings continued to slip even after Paula left. And now they still continue to slip. That's not Ellen's fault, but the Christian Newswire is quick to lay blame on her, just like the earthquakes and volcanoes and oil spills are our fault.

It couldn't possibly be than there was no talent to make the people want to come back the next week to watch.

I don't watch the show. Never have. But it's impossible to escape even in these forums.

But prime time ratings are all down, not just Idol. Five years ago, the top weekly show pulled in 30 million viewers, now that figure for regular weeks is around 20. Why would FOX even considering cancelling the show? Either Idol or DWTS was the top rated weekly series during the May Sweeps.

Blaming Ellen is just silly. She's probably the biggest fan the show has ever had. She brings some welcome entertainment to the show.

What about Kara and her one dimensional need for "artistry" or her gawdawful coronation single she burdoned Kris Allen with last season?

Shows that have aired for 9 seasons rarely keep their legs but an AI epi was never lower than 4th all last season in the weekly ratings - something NBC would kill for once their Sunday Night Football is done for the season.

Ellen did not hurt the show. The lack of some outstanding talent hurt the show. Now, without Simon, it could be a dead show.

i didnt watch this last season. the contestans are not that great and the show is so boring without paula, and i cant believe simon is going to be gone too!

I actually watched this season (mostly because the bf is a big fan) so I can truly say that Ellen had NOTHING at all to add to Idol. Paula was the resident cheerleader and I guess that was what they were looking to replace with the addition of Ellen. Really got tired of hearing her say, "Not my favorite performance, but I am still a big fan." They need a someone with a bit more musical gravitas than she possesses to fill Simon's shoes.








Kinda funny to see people who never watch the show have opinions on the matter. :D

They should never have hired Cara and they should never have pushed Paula out, plain and simple. Ellen added nothing, but she wasn't a negative either. She was just along for the ride down.

They f-ed up the chemistry when the put Paula out to pasture. Without her, the judges became more hypercritical and off-putting. The show has just become too negative.

But Paula was high on painkillers all the time, was passing out and didn't even know what was going on half of the time. She literally said "Your first song tonight was better than your second", when someone just got done singing the FIRST song of the night.

And she just kept rambling on and on and using the weirdest words/similies. The other judges would make fun of her because she wouldn't let them talk.
 
Ellen leaves American Idol

A couple months ago, I let FOX and the "American Idol" producers know that this didn't feel like the right fit for me. I told them I wouldn't leave them in a bind and that I would hold off on doing anything until they were able to figure out where they wanted to take the panel next. It was a difficult decision to make, but my work schedule became more than I bargained for. I also realized this season that while I love discovering, supporting and nurturing young talent, it was hard for me to judge people and sometimes hurt their feelings. I loved the experience working on "Idol" and I am very grateful for the year I had. I am a huge fan of the show and will continue to be.

I knew she wouldn't last. She's too big of a star to remain on the show, and too busy. Back when she began, she said she would have a hard time judging people and hurting their feelings, so I don't know why she took the job to begin with.

She was the only judge I ever liked on that show. I guess I am glad that she is leaving American Idol; she can move on to better things.

I like Ellen but American Idol wasn't her show i hated when she tried to be funny all the time.


Pdiddy wants Simon spot too because of the money he makes. Im kinda rooting for Brett Michael

The show has jumped the shark. Its time to end it and walk away. With Simon gone the show will never ever be the same.

Wow! According to TMZ, it will now be back to 3 judges: Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, and Stephen Tyler! That's a trip.

I have been friends with her since the Mid 80's. It really was hard for her to judge these kids on their search for fame and fortune. She agonized over it. She is truly what you see on TV. Kisses! Ell..

The show needs an overhaul, desperately. Ellen gone is a good start..

I WAS a devoted Idol fanantic until this last season when I practivcally slept thru the whole thing, and couldnt even frce myself to get excited about ANY of the conterstants. I even skipped the concert tour this year. Dulls-ville.....

Hope they are some SUGAR,and spice to this upcoming seaon, and get some interesting and controversial contestants.
