As a born and bred Oklahoman I can tell you for certain that times are changing in our state, there is more tolerance than what Kern implies in her little speech. It has come to a point in our state, and our country that no one could give a hoot if you are gay, and those that do have hate in their hearts, don't really amount to much in the grand scheam of things.

Please do not let Mrs. Kerns rant, be your judgment of oklahoma, we are good people, and she does not speak of this Okie, in the least bit.

your story was touching, I remember that day and the several weeks after very vividly. I can honestly say, I have never been so hurt by one persons words in all my life. I heard what she said and immediately thought of what happened on April 19, and some how I just can't grasp the concept that as a young gay american, I am more responsible for the coruption of our country, and the downfall of society as a whole, than people like Timothy McVeigh, and Sally Kern. You seem to be a strong person, with a great head on your shoulders. And i'm sure one day we will all be reading your words.

Stay strong. No matter where life takes you, it's people like you that make me proud to be from Oklahoma.

Hey guys, I shared Ram's wonderful letter with a friend who lives in Oklahoma City. He's unabashedly straight and Christian all the way, and he knows my story. We've been friends for more than a quarter-century and he's cool with me in all respects.

Ram, your letter reaches or exceeds a state of maturity, and is an example of eloquence that most people never achieve, in their entire lifetimes. It tells things like they really are, and it puts a lot of things in perspective. If somebody can read your letter without reacting to it, I think that they must be brain-dead or stoned on about 10 kinds of drugs all at once.

This is the similarly important reaction from my friend, who is in his Forties of age:

What an incredible letter!

I am embarrassed by her comments and very very upset that her "superior" didn't even reprimand her in any way.
You are probably aware she has attempted to pass a few laws here (and has succeeded in a couple) that are all homosexual related.
The one I know she succeeded in was having books that have a homosexual theme removed from the public libraries' shelves.
She supposedly was reelected 2 years ago, as she was unopposed.
you can sure bet that she probably will not be reelected after her comments the next time round.
I have not heard anybody here approve of her comments.

I only hope that some of the death threats she supposedly has now received are maybe making her lose some sleep at night.
I obviously don't condone violence or death threats,but she deserves to have some stress out of this.

I actually plan on talking with my church minister (she's a female) and get her thoughts on this matter.

Of all possible places for such comments to come about - the actual site of the most horrific single act of terrorism by an individual or radical cell in the U.S. in [EDIT] the last half of the 20th Century. Of course the timing itself was based on a single act of U.S. government terrorism which was certainly the worst such official act on U.S. soil in our lifetimes (Waco/David Koresh), though the COINTELPRO and Philadelphia anti-M.O.V.E. stuff comes close...

And she looks amazing for someone who just turned 50. Hell, she realy doesn't look older than mid to late 30's.

I went to the site Ram got that letter from, and left a comment. It wouldn't all go, because they limited the number of characters. But if it had all gone there, it would hasve read like this:

I was raised believing what you had to say. Most everyone I knew believed it. At least three of us in my high school class of under 200 tried and failed to be "cured". Two of them took their own lives; I tried. But your kind lost: I lived.

If you had spoken those words in public, I would call you accessory in a conspiracy to commit murder. Since you only spoke them in private, I'll settle for calling you a fool. And I do that on good authority: I read the Scriptures in the original tongues, and there's only only thing that I can think of that Jesus had to say that applies to you... and it isn't what you think, it's:
WOE TO YOU!
You call evil good, Rep. Kerns. The love of Christ is not in you, and you do not speak in accord with the Holy Spirit. So I say with my Savior: WOE TO YOU!

I somehow thought that Ram had written the letter, but be that as it may, it doesn't change anything in any way.

I think we're all at least a little bit more fortunate, having had that letter shared in our direction. I didn't even give it a second thought that the letter on the link wasn't signed RAM, either, because screen names don't always resemble our real names. (Prairielooner doesn't look much like "Frank")
