Ethnicity and body hair

The stories that were written of great beauties or the lovers of the Emperors for whom statues were made were clean shaven.

Oscar Wilde's Dorian Grey was clean shaven. The first male sex symbol St Sebastian was clean shaven and so was the first Hollywood male sex symbol Rudolph Valentino.

And a million others across the ancient world were bearded -- so again, this statement proves nothing. Clean shaven most typically denoted youth. The extrapolation from that that anyone intended to be beautiful was clean-shaven is your own invention.

Yes they do but that picture is not an iconic standard of male beauty, was never meant to be.

Either was Michelangelo's David, it was a symbol of the state-city of Florence that overcast the old rival Pisa and he's beardless because he was a young hero who defeated Goliath, the giant, not for any aesthetical ideal.

The studies indicate not only do women vary within their answers but they also vary based on hormones, pregnant or not pregnant, age and menstrual status. All of which implies, by the way, that the answer a woman gives at any given time as to her opinion on body hair is being influenced by more than just "pure aesthetics."

They do vary because of their hormones but I wonder how many of women would go see Magic Mike to see hairy strippers.

I'm sure you'd also see significant swings across cultures and time periods.

Salman Khan the number 1 actor of the biggest film industry with 12 million Facebook followers, double that of Tom Cruise. He's known for his looks, his clean shaven looks.

However, you are the one touting your opinion as objective fact, and not only that, but extending that backwards into antiquity for all humans, so...

From Dolce & Gabbana's book Uomini. See how many hairy models are in there.

Such As? Examples?

I think we need to just call it a day people. Clean shaven>beards. Some peole like beards but most people like clean shaven. Unless of course we're talking about muslim people where most men have beards.
DONE. FINISHED. THE END.

This is a circular argument. "Look, models... therefore they were picked because this is what most people want. Because it's what most people want, models are like this.."

There is absolutely no point in linking pictures at each other of statues so that you can throw your hand on your hip and go "but only the ones *I* say were meant to be beautiful, and those were all clean shaven ones. Because reasons."

At this point there's no furthering the discussion with you.

Good ..| You should see the smirk on my face right now. This is all so pathetic but fun for our egos nonetheless

Typical thread on here now a days. Annoy absolutely everyone until the last one remaining declares victory. What a joke. I've seen children behave better.

If I'd ever bitch about a site condemning people on it and announce my leave then I'd actually leave. Not continue bitching.

I dunno, I'd be rather embarrassed if I made claims as grandiose as yours with such weak support. Even just the concept of speaking for all humans since antiquity of every cultural background is astonishingly arrogant.

 Are you kidding? This thread will keep on truckin' just like the "bisexuals are just chicken" threads that crop up with monotonous regularity, and the "cut v uncut" "why can't fem's be more masculine" & "why are porn studios racist" threads.

Stick around dude, you ain't seen nothing yet. Unless you've been here before and this is a new incarnation for you. Is this a new face for an older poster?

I thought I did pretty good. Although I admit you're infinitely smarter with words, I posted great pictures (whether you like it or not). My answers look much more grand and I'm not ashamed of it at all! :p

I figured as adults, most of us are well past touting what is posted in articles, movies, ads, and such as a "standard" for anything. And the very bullshit some of you are pulling right now is the reason I had a misunderstanding with a poster earlier. Please look up the definitions of subjective/objective...write them down and hang it above your desk or wherever the hell you're posting from. There were many statues, sculptures, and other forms of "art" in which men were bearded and/or had body hair. Don't just choose a favorite and consider it the universal standard...therefore the "model".

Adrian, I want to apologize if it seems like I'm coming out of nowhere and attacking you.

This was just something that's been on my mind for a whole and you happened to be the one that walked right into it.

we're cool.

Clean shaven>beards. Some people like beards but most people like clean shaven.

boy, bye. I like how you went and polled every person in the world.

And while we're on the topic of beards...some men simply CANNOT grow beards if they wanted, so that may be another reason why "clean shaven" is more COMMON. Yes, COMMON. not preferred...there is a difference, people.

I feel the total opposite.

I'm not super hairy but I'm not naturally hairless either and I get quite jealous of my friends who are. Not having to shave every few days or worry about showing a bush if you take your shirt off. That would be much better for me.

I don't really care what people prefer.
Clean shaven is the standard.

I'll keep my facial hair though.

Then laser it off and shut up.
