Ever get the feeling 'some' gays would like to open "Homo Re-Educational Camps"

Just because you believe and project something, doesn't mean it's true. There may be extremists on fringes, especially on the LEFT(think ELF), but for the most part it's just people from all walks of life tired of the same garbage from democrats and republicans. Your obsession with labeling everyone, everywhere, who doesn't submit to your warped worldview is almost funny.

I dislike elitists from all areas, it's almost synonymous with arrogance. And arrogance seems to be more apparent from those on the LEFT. It's the behavior many don't like. The arrogant attitude. The nasty replies to posts they disagree with, instead of just talking about them. I wonder how many would talk like that to a person's face? Aren't we here to have dialogue with other gay people, shouldn't there be some friendliness? It'll never happen, because liberalism gets put ahead of everything else for these people. The arrogance is obvious, the nastiness shows the left's notorious intimidation tactic of trying to shut up the opposition.
Some people, on BOTH sides, become like religious fanatics, and elitism is just one word to describe the behavior.

You mention arrogance seems to be more apparent from the LEFT. Could it be possible you think that because someone left of you, you disagree with? I take the opposite stance..... I see those on the right as arrogant, and the lefties not so much because I tend to agree with those on the left. You're always going to align yourself with people you agree with.

And as for elitists..... I know there are people richer, smarter, better looking, more involved & passionate than I, more educated, etc, but that doesn't make them elitists. IMOHO someone whining about elitists is simply jealous of that person, and wants to demonize them.

The group of people I admire and respect most are educated people..... people with Masters Degrees, PHD's and the like. It's a hell of a lot of work researching, writing and defending that thesis and dissertation. Labeling educated people elitists just because they're smart is like calling all gays limp wristed faggots because it's not true.

I explained that I dislike the attitude, not someone's education or field of expertise. I, too, respect a knowlegable person, but not if they're arrogant. It is possible to be very knowlegable and/or highly educated and not be a schmuck to others who know less. I happen to know 2 members of Mensa who are the nicest, kindest, most loving and non-judgemental people I know. Would that people emulate them. Some of the people on this forum treat anyone to the right of Karl Marx as a bigger enemy than Bin Laden.

Supersix, do you think calling others arrogant elitists is friendly? Do you think it engenders dialogue with the people who disagree with you?

I think the term missing from this thread is "Populist." And I will take a liberal élitist snob that has to be taken down a notch over a conservative pandering populist that won't hear reason or talk sense, any day of the week.

Btw, sorry if "populist" sounds too brainy.

Do you think calling tea partiers 'Teabaggers' is friendly? All of a sudden, when given a taste of their own medicine, someone stops to think. You may not have said that particular insult, but many on here have. Are they the only ones who are allowed to get annoyed and passionate about their beliefs, and I'm supposed to be seen and not heard?

I explained that I dislike the attitude…

I think you can come up with something better than "attitude." O:)

Characterizing other people’s “attitude” constitutes nothing more than speculation, as one person cannot know another person’s attitude. [Link]

Fair point.

I often feel like punching liberal snobs in the face, but I've never felt like doing what I've wanted to with some 'evangelical' Christian snobs: throw 'em off the bridge and send large rocks after them.

Oh go ahead. Be as passionate about your beliefs as you want to.

Grow a thicker skin.

Accept that that the generally ill educated, angry white folk who called themselves T-baggers at the outset of their Koch bros. Fox News financed foray into mob politics now have to live with the term.

And by the way. Take a good look at the partisan political threads. They aren't initiated from any convivial desire to exchange opinions. They are usually mean-spirited and negative attack threads. And in the run-up to the last election, when some of the ops for the republican't party had a lot to say on the board, the daily menu included at least one or two ugly little turds hurled by party apparatchiks.

Even now, there are several posters on the far right of the spectrum, some even claiming to be political moderates, who are fighting the US election in 2012.

These are the posters, by the way, who usually have nothing to add to the discussions of gay political issues, except in some instances, defenses of the conservative people and policies that have prevented homo marriage, repeal of DOMA, repeal of DADT, etc. All because they have only one role on this and the other boards they frequent.

So, opine away.

Most left leaners here are arrogant and nasty, pissing off their counterparts, who then reply in kind. It'll never change.

Oh. By the way, 'Supersix' these 'friendly' words were smeared across another thread asking about the nature of dualism in US politics.

Yeah. It is always those nasty lefties who start it, isn't it?

You're welcome.

Sorry.......(*8*)

I had three profs on my committee with several others from the department sitting in. I felt like a lamb facing slaughter. Altho I'm aware it's just a rite of passage it's still a nightmarish event.

Neither the Kocks nor Fox were there at the start. They didn't buy in until elections started rolling.

And I imagine it really was "buy in" -- some friend of the Kochs ran into one of the early Tea Party (back then, almost synonymous with Ron Paul rallies), decided it fit with their corporatist neo-fascist feudal plutocracy agenda, and gave a ring....

"Hey -- oh, hi David. I've got something you might be interested in. Yeah, it's this little political movement. I'd say you can pick it up cheap. Sure, Rupert will love it! Okay, great -- I'll watch for it on the tube!"

You cry out so a lot about tea bagger or tea bagging but it wasn't even used or known much before the 1990's era John Waters film "Pecker" and likely had that movie not developed such a cult following in its niche market would still be the case today. It was a joke in the movie that as I sat there and watched with my very active socially gay bar cruising friends had never heard and I was in the Baltimore area where the movie was set. It was funny in the movie however I can't think of one time in the stripper bars of DC or Baltimore clubs where a go-go boy used that term when they tea bagged ya. If they say something about tea bagging ya it didn't stick.

..in fact when you get down to it not all that many ever saw "Pecker" or heard of tea bagging after the movie was released and did its time in the theater it certainly wasn't a block buster or heavy on the rental VHS demand like most Water films.

Now take a word like "Scum bag" which is used since the olden days regularly. It seems pretty accepted and most don't have a clue that when you call someone a "scum bag" you're calling them a used condom because that's where the term came from. But I've heard that word used commonly by old ladies and proper morally righteous (in their minds) men forever. Whats the problem? Thats pretty gross compared to tea bagger.

You make such a big deal out of this all the time but have no problem slandering the health care reform in a similar manner with the constant term "Obamacare" which everyone knows is used as a slang term,... however proper you may think the meaning is the same.

More than a rite of passage, I think. A number of dissertations/theses were printed by the school press every year, so it was also a competition. Two of the profs I faced were there for the sole function of finding the least little thing that the school might not want in print.

Of course my advisor, who'd recruited two other profs to help where he wanted back-up expertise, had been through it a dozen times for all that sort of thing, and we'd gone over all the material in five other languages, but two of the committee profs were out for blood.

I had some others from the department sit in, too, and was glad of it -- the ones who lent a hand, and a friend.

BTW, my thesis didn't get picked for printing -- the quality was there, but it was judged too controversial.....
