Faggotty Me!

One or two posters here seem to be stuck in the 1950's....

Where I live, the straight guys have their brows waxed more often than the gays, and some of them wear nail polish (egad!).

New trend seems to be: straight guys shaving their legs..

UGH!

I also want to add vis a vis straights "hating" flamboyant gays...

Attendance at our local Gay Pride Parade seems to be bolstered by all the straights who turn out in droves. Seems they love the parade. Really, more straights show up than gays. Maybe they don't have a problem with out and open homo's after all.

Faggotty me
Thought I had my degree
In life and how love
Ought to be a run

I had a one step plan to prove it
Guide in my pocket for fools
Folly and fun
Love had to show me one thing

I was so right
So right
Thought I could turn emotion
On and off
I was so sure
So sure (I was so sure)
But love taught me
Who was who was who was the boss
(taught me who was who was the boss)

Well, I love faggots.

The more faggoty, the better.

That's OK. I'm leading the charge of gay guys who DON'T shave their body hair. That'll learn 'em. :)

I don't feel like i'm setting back the gay movement. I have way more straight friends than gay ones, there is a lot more straight people in the world than gay people. In fact being myself is a value the straight people I know respect very highly. I go to lots of straight bars here in town, and never once have I been treated any differently.

In a conversation with my therapist, I mentioned that (gay/straight/young/old/whomever etc . . .) people in social setting are gravitated towards me and I was trying to figure it out. My therapist explained that people are attracted to confident, secure, and open people, like myself. I'm discovering this in therapy, and learning to be a better me. People are attracted to the betterment of people, not their sexuality.

The two bigots on the train, were just that -two bigots. They probably have a problem with other minorities and perhaps other people outside of their religion.

This is America, we all strive to be unique and different, straight and gay alike. Some straights display some of the same fashion as me, in fact, my fashion sense is directly inspired from straight people like David Bowie, he wore way more make-up than me and snagged a hot supermodel wife.

The internet is not America, and your audience is wider than the circumstances of your story. It is a free-for-all, though, and maybe my last point on the subject is that there are a lot of people in this diverse world who will never give in to the expectations of masculinity held by a middle-aged white man from a middle-sized town in Ohio.

Instead of blaming those people, why not find a way to make them part of the movement for gay equality? After all, it is only their rightful place.

So none of the facts of our history mean anything to you? None of what has been posted here about how it was drag queens, and dykes, and flaming queerboys who got us greater distances in the move for rights means anything to you? It was the very outsiders you claim to hurt the cause who started the cause, because they DIDN'T fit in; they couldn't fit in if they tried.

So, I guess thank you to them, fuck them very much, their efforts were great to start us out, but now we just wish they'd all sit down and stop making it harder for everyone to prove how normal we all are.

Well, fuck that.

You talk as though that is a fact. It isn't a fact.

Common sense here. Do you really think that those that appear freakish or outlandish in appearance like Drag Queens and Flaming Queerboys are going to help or hurt the Gay Movement? Logically speaking? Do you think that these type of Gays help reach out to the people who's votes we need for Gay Rights, or does it alienate us from those people?

The answer is pretty obvious.

What is a fact is that Draq Queens and Flamers helped give the Gay Community attention. The problem is ... that it was Negative Attention. And that could be a very good reason why Blacks have progressed ahead of Gays in terms of how each are viewed in society.

You want to say "Fuck That" .... as if 10% of the population or less .... can defeat the other 90% of the population.

The question is if Gays as a whole have reached out to Straight people to tell them about themselves and how they got to be the way they are. Has this transpired to any real degree? No, it hasn't. Instead we have people going out and saying "Fuck You" to society. Great. Instead of reaching out to them, let's get them to hate us and look down on us even more.

And because of Draq Queens and Flaming Gays, that has done nothing but given us an even more negative image in society, which in turn is passed down to all children ... gay and straight. So the Gay kids have these people to thank for spreading homophobia instead of helping to reduce it.

There is a way for Gays to voice who they are and telling their stories to the public, without dressing up like a Freak Show and marching down the streets in Drag carrying Dildos and Vibrators. What the Hell do you expect the public to think of people seen on TV who do those kinds of things?

Feminine gays and drag queens only piss me off if they say that all gays should be like them or say that any gay that's not like them is repressing their inner self.

Otherwise, I could really give a shit how they act.

No, fems and queens are not for me, I'm not like that, but I think if people associate all gays as being like that, it's their fucking problem and not mine.

I think they have as much of a right to be proud of who they are as you and I do.

You see, I am with you in that I feel they should be proud of who they are. I just don't think that dressing up in drag is really "showing off who you really are". Who "one really is" is themselves without the makeup and all that stuff. That is the true person. The dressing up part is done for attention, and unfortunately it results in negative attention for all of us, whether we want it or not.

I wouldn't have as much of a problem with the whole thing, if Heterosexuals saw all sorts of different Gay people in large numbers. Instead the Gays who are shown in the Media are predominantly the Draq Queens and Flaming Gays ... which ultimately leads to the stereotyping of all of us. And it makes things that much more difficult as non-outlandish Gays need to make the effort to combat those images to show Heterosexuals that not all of us act that way.

People like other people who they can relate to. Anything else is seen as "scary". That's one of the main problems that Blacks and Whites have not been able to get along for so long even after the Black Civil Rights Movement. And it's ridiculous.

However, who are most Heterosexual people, which represents some 90% of the population, more likely to relate to? Reserved Gay people who act themselves and just want to go about their daily lives? Or Drag Queens and Flamboyant Gays who do outlandish things to purposefully draw attention to themselves?

In part this may be a small contributing reason why Lesbians are actually viewed in a higher regard than men, since they are generally much more low-key than the Queens.

I have to question that part of your post.

People have their own style, attitude, and personality.

If we were forced to wear uniforms all the time and look exactly the same like everyone else than some of the "style, attitude, and personality" would be suppressed. Not all of it though.

The point is. Not everyone wears clothes or dresses to get attention or to try to be someone else.

Some people wear or dress to REFLECT on their own style and personality. So by dressing in drag or wearing eye liner and make up they are dressing the way they want to dress and want to be and they are being themselves.

So it's not always for negative attention or to say "EVERY GAY NEEDS TO DRESS OR BE THIS WAY" and if they are hurting the gay community they are not doing it on purpose. And others might not view it as that. Others might view it as them just being themselves and showing it.

Do you really want to take on the customers of the 19 billion US dollar cosmetics industry by telling them they are trying not to be true people?

Thanks newguyj,

My advice to the poster of this thread is go on being who you are.
When I am in a situation like the one you described, I speak my mind.
Obviously, they were wanting you to react. I would give them just that and a lot more..
And I would tell the assholes who I think they really are. Maybe the next time
they will save their stupid conversations for their private moments.

Not really. The Cosmetics industry already knows what it is and who it primarily appeals to. It is an industry where its customers tries to disguise or beautify their true selves. However, at the same time, this is an industry that caters to women. It is not the norm for men to wear makeup. Therefore, why do Flamboyant Queens feel the need to be the exception to the rule to stand out, and draw attention to themselves?

I love how you capitalize Flamboyant Queens, and Drag Queens. I'm like a pronoun, now, wow!!!Thanks!..|

Goths - true goths and post 80's goths and emo kids - rockers(not just glam metal, but glam metal is a great example) and actors have been wearing makeup since as long as i've been alive and breathing, and yet, i don't see you ragging on them specifically for wearing makeup...

That's because Goths aren't intentionally trying to resemble the opposite sex. They have their own unique look to them. Goths are looked down upon in society, but obviously not anywhere near the same degree as Gays are looked down upon for demonstrating characteristics of the opposite sex.

Also, Goths aren't necessarily out to try to improve their image regarding how they are perceived by society, like Gays are.

for someone trying to be so normal, boy, you sure know your subcultures. (scratches my head);)

Is that what this whole spiel is about? Resemblance? Because you really can't expect everyone to be exactly unique - or trends wouldn't exist.

What I want to end is the stereotype of Gay Men being perceived as "Feminine". That is what I am primarily after. That is the stereotype that I am most against.

I don't know - you just made the whole point about makeup being marketed to females, and thus, it'd be... feminine to wear it. Yet, goths(and emos) get a pass and gays don't? Why, because they are perceived to be... manlier?

Goths do get a pass, yes, because they aren't going out and trying to demonstrate characteristics of the opposite sex. Again, it goes back to my original desire all along-- to end the stereotype of femininity being associated with Gay men.

Some gays aren't concerned about the perception of the masses either - they just want the same rights everyone else is entitled to. And i fit in that category.

Well, some Gays are more concerned about their perception amongst the masses. I am included into that category. Gays want to be accepted and to fit in with society. Well, how is going out in Drag and acting overly effeminate doing for the perception of Gays in society? Not a whole Hell of a lot of good.

Again, I will reiterate my comments from earlier ...
