Falwell: Dead [Updated title]

From the pdf, wtf is 'commentaw'?
I have this one:

'commentaw' is a word formed from the Aramaic root 'comm' combined with the Greek root 'entaw' which has no direct translation into modern English. Biblical scholars have loosely translated it to mean: fucked-up inbred idiots.

 That's totally f'd up.

Aramaic actually could have such a root, but it doesn't really work in Greek. If I take that in Greek, though:

en + tau, which comes out as "in tee"

"Comm", though, has to be from Latin, the root for communicating.

So:

"Communicate" plus "in tee" would be "to talk while wearing [just] your tee-shirt".

I don't know if that helps...

the image of Falwell in just a tee-shirt certainly doesn't

I really don't hate the man at all. But I totally disagreed with the way he distorted the Bible and only focused on gay issues using quotes stated in Levitcus, and Romans,Genesis and other scriptures. Then he used politics to further his own personal agenda against gays. One can only wonder if in the last few hours of his life did he possibly even ask himself "What have I done?"He had some positive accomplishments but also his life was full of controversy too. Falwell made life miserable for gays in the late 70's on through most of the 80's. But as I said I do not hate him for it sheds a bad light on me as a gay man. I only hope that we reflect on the impact that he had on our lives and MOVE ON !!!!

I'll check with Rev. Phelps and get back to you! Tomorrow is the annual Westboro Baptist Church weenie roast down by the old lake-of-fire. Thats always a fun event!

Maybe that's why he had a heart attack -- for once he actually listened to God, and suddenly realized how 179 degrees wrong he was.

That ^ is one good and cogent post, mowrest.

I can understand how someone could be happy another person was dead, but only if that person was directly oppressing the someone. I don't quite get it as far as Falwell, though.
Relief is quite appropriate, and feeling a bit more content with the world is natural, but the rejoicing and the hate are just a different version of Falwell's, the same thing in a different package.

The two men apologized for statements they'd made in the past and pledged to work to avoid hateful speech in the future.

This would carry more weight if the October 23 date was last year, but it was in 1999. Since then Falwell has said some really nasty things about gay people .... his resolve to change the rhetoric was just more bullshit that continued until he died.

Unless you believe what they do, effectively recognizing Phelps himself as Pope, Prophet, and Priest of Perfection, you are by their definition a servant of the devil.

They don't see at all that they've turned the Gospel into a law of hatred and condemnation, and taught themselves to hate, to the point that they aren't capable of liking or even tolerating anyone not marching and singing in lockstep with them.

I keep hoping Phelps will show up and cheer for the attempted murderers of another Matthew Shepard -- I've made a vow to pack my truck, strap on my .357, slap my Greek New Testament on the dashboard, and go face the man. I've faced down haters before, but I think I would take more pleasure facing him down than all the others combined.

Oh -- the .357 is in hope that he'd get so enraged he'd attack me with a protest sign, and it would be in a state with a "No Retreat" laws on the books.

Come on, Phelps -- make my day!

Dude, you totally turned me on with your post. Will you be my protecter, my lover, my husband?;)

Damn! I was cogent? I was trying to be a smartass. :(

And you make a good point, the hate shown toward Falwell is just a different version of the hate many people say he spewed. If it were me, I would want to think I was better than that, and not sink to his level. But that's just me.

God I hope you don't work for anything like a battered womens shelter for instance. You would probably have them trying to learn to love their batterer instead of getting the strength to stay away from them.

I have now decided to dance to death of Falwell. Why? Because I feel better than the day before he died solely because he died.:p

(!) (!) (!) (!) (!) (!) (!) (!) (!) (!) (!) (!) (!)

And with that I am done here. Not another moment of my life for this man. Peace and love to you all,
Todd

Re: Falwell found unresponsive in his office. Grave condition

Dude, you're right, I don't understand how people can hate so much. Just isn't in my nature. But what's up with the fantasy world shit? Just because I don't get how people are so hateful I'm in a fantasy world?

:rotflmao: Dude, that's such an old, tired line. Get over it. Kind of ironyous that in a thread where I'm chastising others for hating a man who's dead, you accuse me of hating myself, lol. Now, if you can find some sort of evidence that I hate myself, then go for it. I don't even hate Colonel Sanders, I mean General I-forget-his-name, and that's saying a lot ;)

Hahahahaha, I'm sure you've figured out by now, but THAT'S HIS FREAKING NAME, lol. I just love saying it when I'm responding to a post of his. It's not everyday you get to refer to someone as fuckbait in a non-confrontational way. Know what I mean, fuckbait?

I will definitely judge people for being happy because someone has died, dancing bananas notwithstanding. Hell, I judge people for a lot less important matters all the time.

I definitely know what you mean. I've been called worse, and answered to them.

Could he help that he looked like a used car saleman sticking some poor sucker w/ a "lemon"? No. Do I have to respect someone who, while claiming christianity as a shield, spewed total hatred & condemnation toward so many? No. Like Mr Phelps, he will have to answer for a great deal of evil (& I wonder if he hated homo-sex-uals so much 'cause he was a self hating closet case?).

Great letter to the editor in today's Quad Cities Times.

Hard to feel sorrow over Falwell's death
By William Stosine

Rabidly anti-gay crusader Rev. Jerry Falwell has died.

As a gay man, I’m torn. On the one hand I want to take the moral high ground and remain the better person. I offer my sympathies to those who cared for him. Many undeserving people have good people around them.

On the other hand, I want to immediately throw a great big rainbow-colored party featuring Tinky Winky and a drag queen singing “Ding Dong, the Witch Is Dead.”

Jerry Falwell used every breath that came out of his body to speak ill of me and my friends. This is, after all, the man who supported apartheid, called me and my gay friends “vile and Satanic,” claimed AIDS was God’s punishment, and blamed the September 11 attacks on gays. These facts are on public record. He made no secret of his hatred.

They say you shouldn’t speak ill of the dead. But to say good things about a man in death who I despised in life would be hypocritical. I think people are entitled to let a little steam off on such occasions and to say good riddance. I will not mourn his death.

Falwell made a fortune by capitalizing on other people’s hatred and bigotry. He represented the worst possible face of Christianity. May God forgive him because I will not.

William Stosine

Iowa City

My sentiments exactly.

Anyone who didn't already, go read that entire article -- it'll change your perspective on Falwell. What it says, I didn't know he had in him.

I wish it had been publicized more.

Oops -- I just saw the post clarifying matters... thanks for that one!
I guess he wasn't so good at following up on resolutions.

^ I honestly believe that the Westboro Baptist Church would have picketed the crucifiction of Christ for the same reasons.

If they weren't so seriously effed up, they'd be a laughing stock.

Very likely so -- after all, Christ ate with sinners! and let a prostitute wash His feet (everyone knows that's just foreplay)!

I suppose there's hope for Falwell on the 'other side' -- but I see none for Phelps, who majors in calling evil good, and good evil.

Nice to see none of the Republican candidates went.

I just go this in a "breaking news" e-mail, from ABC I think. I forget and deleted the email as I wasn't going to wait until the story broke more. But oh well... what the hey eh? I'm sure a google will find a more complete news story.

These people deserve each other. Geesh!

I don't know who I think it would have been more appropriate to "disrupt" with "napalm-like bombs"... okay, Phelps and crew.
