Fat shaming cards

Hmmmmmm. This might be a huge coincidence, but on the "business" card appears exactly the same typo …

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm indeed.

The sad reality of course, is that the person leaving the notes and obsessing about other people's weight has a mental health issue. Hopefully they will get the counselling they need to get beyond their own obsessive and compulsive anger over how other people look. It would be interesting to know what triggers this kind of bizarre behaviour.

I have met people who lacked all ability to filter their words. Some were sick with dementia from age, others literal brain injury, but a few, just some sort of mental illness that made them almost compulsively say mean or inappropriate things.

This certainly comes close, but appears a little more controlled behavior than that

But, I wouldn't rule out true mental illness. At any rate, if the person is caught there is little that can be done without some more threatening behavior than simple contempt. Judge Judy uses rougher language and is the highest paid woman on TV, so society isn't all that averse to controlled hate speech.

I would love to see someone putting a message like that on any of my friends things. I would beat the living shit out of them. No problem. What they are doing is fucked up!

Speaking of shaming, I have to wonder what punishment a judge would impose on defendants if it were proven that they held down this perpetrator and wrote on her face in permanent marker "I HATE FAT PEOPLE"?

And before you go there, it shouldn't be written with a pen knife. Hate speech should bring its own consequences, but carnage is not one of them.

Of course not. Aren't we all entitled to our own opinions, with no need to justify them?

So no, we should not name and shame him. At least not for now. Wait until he puts on ten kilos.

You know there is a difference between opinion and changing that opinion into judgment onto others?

Nah...some people are just nasty... and ugly inside...

The key is when they said "perverted chubby lover" as if anyone who is attracted to a person who is fat is a pervert....that just shows me what an ugly nasty person he/she is....and I love that they are honest about it so I can avoid knowing them....

...and I notice a lot of people who call other people "perverts" (unless in humor) are usually creepy nasty people for some reason....

My bet is that people like this don't stop with fat people...I suspect they have problems with a lot of people....

Zeno, I didn't catch the sarcasm either. It's hard to tell when played deadpan online.

I think that one of the most offensive things is that the person leaving the note doesn't realize that it may be metabolic.

I eat fewer calories now per day than when I was 20 or 30 or 40 and yet, because of my metabolism,
I am prone to gaining pounds because I am not in constant action. On the other side of our family, there are people who easily consume twice my calorie intake but because they favour my father's side of the family...they do not gain weight....even though they also are not active.

We have four cats. The smallest one is 8 pounds. The largest is 23 pounds. The two others are 12 pounds and 18 pounds. Each cat eats the same amount and type of food each day and is equally active.

I feel badly for people who can't eat the same things as others because it immediately converts to fats. I feel even worse for them when they don't realize that the processed foods that they are eating are empty calories, designed to make them crave eating more instead of eating to fill their caloric needs.

But shaming fat people has to stop. It just has to. This whole culture of shaming has to stop.

The part about 'enormous food resources you consume whilst half the world starves' is particularly facetious. A fat person may consume more than some people, but atheletes, body builders, and sports people, those who work in heavy industries that require physical labour consume a great deal of calories, yet remain below what is 'fat'. Obviously the giver of the card knows nothing about food intake and physical size.

Cormac bunny, what is this supposed to be … a defense against something?

Or a profane attack, perhaps?

Whatever.

Probably you don't know how the fight against delinquency works, but looking into dustbins is sometimes extremely important.

One thing that stands out, whether this is an individual or an actual group, is the youth-centric viewpoint of the text. It assumes the fat person is unpartnered, apparently on the front end of looking.

It's no doubt statistically true that most fat people are already married or partnered, as they represent a majority in society, therefore. . .

Anyone of mature years would know this. The idea that fat people are rejected due to their fat is a child's or teen's insecure perspective. It also views it from the vantage point that the adult fat person was fat as a child, which may or may not be true.

Fat Acceptance is the stupidest fucking movement to ever exist. There's an easy fix for your problem, lardasses; it's called Calories In, Calories Out. I've lost 15 pounds in the last month and a half without even exercising by cutting out junk food and boredom eating, as well as tracking my calories. If I can do it, anyone can.

Looks like we found our perp with the obvious "i'm a cunt sign".

Also, instead of calling me a cunt (which is, admittedly, well-deserved), can you show me anything that contradicts CICO, and thus the first law of thermodynamics?

Maybe a better question is how "fat acceptance" became a term. Mankind has been on this planet for millions of years, and civilizations for many thousands. Only in the last couple of decades has there been any question of fat people being accepted or not. It was not stigmatized before the successive waves of health crazes that began about 1900 with Post and others.

Fat was typically the status of the aged. Who was a grandma hater before recently? Who?

This is impressive. Few people have a metabolism that can burn off 2 pounds a week without exercise.

On 1800 carefully recorded calories per day with 5000 calories of exercise averaged each week, I was only able to lose 1 pound per week over a 40 week period.

This tends to illustrate that based on age and metabolic function....the results for the effort expended can be significantly different for each individual.

I also subscribe to the 'Eat Less. Move More' approach to weight management, but over the last six months, with a painful flare-up from an old fractured disc injury....even with taking care of about 4 acres of laws and gardens...I have not been getting the knid of aerobic exercise needed to burn off the calories and have been seeing a gradual creep on the scales, even with a 250 calorie breakfast, a 200 calorie lunch and 1200 calories in snacks and dinner. sigh.

I also have a couple of decades of peripheral experience in metabolic health issues including those with a psychological component and understand why losing fat is so difficult for some and way too easy for others. I also know that shame is a very poor motivational tool....people with a strong sense of personal shame and failure aren't going to suddenly decide that they don't have this. Anyone who has ever had any type of body image or self-esteem issue will know this.

So at the end of the day, while it would be great if every one of us could hit a perfect healthy weight and metabolize a perfectly balanced, clean diet of only natural, home-cooked, unprocessed, organic foods high in bulk, fruit and vegetables.....well, we know that this isn't going to happen.

But there still is nothing as offensive as some 20 something who is still able to pack away 2500 calories a day of garbage food and burn it all off without any exercise calling overweight people names.

Rather than calling them names, why not let them know you are willing to walk with them on their journey of a healthier lifestyle?
Overweight people know they are overweight, no need to tell them that by shaming them. Let them know, by your actions, that you accept them just the way they are (don't we all need that?). Kindness and love will encourage change. Shaming leads to despair and self-defeat. People have enough of that already.
