Re: Favorite Euro bubble gum pop act of the 90's

I don't really think of Ace Of Base as bubblegum. They're certainly Europop, but I don't think they ever really ventured into the childish sound that I think is what makes bubblegum music. However, I think they're the band who most opened the door for all of the bubblegum music that came after their heyday. Ace Of Base brought Europop music into the spotlight - especially in North America - and all of the acts that followed them took advantage in the new-found public interest.

I don't think bubble gum pop has to necessarily be aimed at children or teenagers. I find that most top 40 stuff or things that chart in the Billboard Top 100 hits are disposable bubble gum "flavor of the moment type" stuff.

Re: Favorite Euro bubble gum pop act of the 90's

I wouldn't classify All Saints, Holly Valance, BBMak, or the Sugababes as bubblegum pop of the 90's.

All Saints did mostly melodic r&b and were the anti-Spice Girls while BBMak were what I would consider adult top 40. Holly Valance didn't come out until 2002 and was doing world beats/electronic music for her extremely short music career. The Sugababes started out as a r&b harmonizing group but ditched that sound to become mainstream pop.

While never a fan of any of the other groups I guess my favorite would be between All Saints and the Sugababes.

Re: Favorite Euro bubble gum pop act of the 90's

I agree it was the other bands listed that killed the all saints in the end (that and the members bad attitudes) and it was not till bubblegum was starting to die that the sugerbabes started to become popular. Atomic Kitten were a bubble gum girl band. But it is all pop and the same time period.

Holly Valance and Sugababes are not from the 90s k? In fact Westlife's popularity didnt kick in until 2000.

I used to LOVE this song!

Re: 90's MUSIC!!!

I can't post vids on here since I have dial-up, but one song I think is an instant classic is Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana. I can't thunk of a song from the 90's that is more iconic than that one.

One of my favorite bands from the 90's was Nirvana, though they started in the late 80's.
