Love Janis so much. Love Zooey Deschanel and her album but she is way to pretty to play Janis I was happy when Pink was attached as I thought she fitted it more. I hope its a good movie it will be the first time a lot of my mates will be exposed to Janis, cause they are lame.

As for the most rock voice in pop music...I'm gonna hand that to Pink. Fantastia's got a good voice, but it's really more soul than rock. Pink has more attitude and a much more rock quality.
And if you want to hear an out-of-this world version of Ball and Chain, check Big Mama Thornton's original. Fantastic.
Etheridge is WAYYYY too old to play Janis. Zooey's too sweet. Pink could've done it but she dropped because the producers didn't want Janis's overdose shown on screen. Dana Fuchs (the lady from Across the Universe) could do it vocally, but probably can't act well enough.

Oh god who the hell would EVER think of Zellweger as Janis? They both had squishy faces, but the comparison stops there. And this is coming from someone who actually dug Renee's singing in Chicago.

her voice (or what I have heard of it) is a little to weak for Janis but that said how do we even know there is singing in the movie? Reese is a good actress but I doubt she would but on the weight like/ fugly it up like some actreses would.

So this is a little off-topic, but what do you all think of Bette Midler's performance in "The Rose"? That character was supposedly based on Janis.
If I remember correctly Bette got a best actress nomination (correct me if I'm wrong)--she didn't win,though.
