Favorite Movie of all time?

Haven't seen 'The Sundowners', and 'Australia' hasn't opened here yet, but it sounds nothing like a re-make to me ...

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0455824/

What makes you think it is?

A synopsis of "Australia":

Set in northern Australia before World War II, an English aristocrat who inherits a sprawling ranch reluctantly pacts with a stock-man in order to protect her new property from a takeover plot. As the pair drive 2,000 head of cattle over unforgiving landscape....

end

The Sundowners (1960)

an Australian sheep droving family, working their way through the vastness of Australia's outback. Big landscapes, and inspiring scenery.....

Both films utilise the hardships encountered in driving cattle/sheep through the bush, and focus on the family dramas that bring to life the human story.

The big star, is Australia's outback.

the worst thing abou these threads is no matter what forum i'm on, its always supposed to be just 1 movie

just 1 fucking movie that is like mental abuse, becaue who the fuck can just pick 1 damn movie, fuck that
I wish there were at least one fucking movie I could REALLY feel like singling out as the best ever, and not just a replacement one like the one I posted before.

I wish there were at least one thread I could read without you ruining it with your bile and pessimism. If this your life's ambition, then you're succeeding quite adequately.

Pessimism? Where?
I'm just being my usual over-demanding pococurantian self, nothing to do with pessimism.

So basically you mean my existence or, rather, your awareness of my existence ruins the pleasures of your JUB life

Well I'll try to stick to the favorite MOVIE part, and not add in a bunch of others that I thought were just fantastic. The first one that popped into my head when I saw the thread title was......

Monty Python and the Holy Grail

Josh - would you brief me on ordinary people?

Well, let's see...

It came out in '80 or '81 I think, and it stars Donald Sutherland, Mary Tyler Moore and Tim Hutton (who, I think was my first crush when I was like two..;))

Anyway, it's about a family that's dealing with the loss of their eldest son in a boating accident, and the various ways that each family member deals with it.

But really, it's a study of life in wealthy suburbia. Of people that are concerned more with the napkin rings on the table matching than with the fact that their emotional life is falling apart all around them.

It was Robert Redford's first (and best) attempt at directing.

It's not an exaggeration to say I've watched it 50 times, and I still can't get through it without tearing up.

"Did you have trouble finding the place ?"

"Not yet."

Have you ever seen "Workers Leaving a Factory"?
I have. I have a collection of early films, including a lot of the Lumière brothers, Edison's films, and some great films by Meliès.

LilBit - Whats the situaitons with this 8 femmes
It's a French musical murder mystery made in 2002, starring eight of France's greatest actresses. A bit campy, but loads of fun.

Drama: Long Day's Journey Into Night

Dramedy: All About Eve

Comedy: Bringing Up Baby

"Making Love"....an old movie where Kate Jackson's husband comes out. I cannot find it on DVD. If anyone know where to get it let me know.

Oh yikes, this is hard! Here's my attempt:

Hairspray (2007)
Beauty And The Beast (Disney)
Gone With The Wind
Star Wars
United 93
Brokeback Mountain
The Wizard Of Oz
Moulin Rouge!
Superman: The Movie
A Streetcar Named Desire

Maybe Snatch, maybe Apocalypto, maybe some other movie that I happen to be enjoying thoroughly at the time.

Gay themed: Beautiful Thing or Big Eden

Drama: Blade Runner or Minority Report
