Re: Favorite PRINCE album and song!

Anything with Rosie Gaines (sp?) singing next to him:) Actually, I don't know if I have a favorite Prince song (maybe Diamonds and Pearls?) but I saw him at Constitution Hall in DC right before he gave up the symbol and it was one of the best performances I've EVER seen!

Re: Favorite PRINCE album and song!

I'm intentionally not reading any posts in this thread until I answer. :)

My favorite album - Sign o' the Times. Possibly my favorite album ever. 1999, Purple Rain, and the Gold Experience aren't far behind.

Least favorite album - New Power Soul. No comment. I don't think I need to comment.

Favorite track - "I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man". That song distills everything I like about him - soul, rock, pop, guitar prowess, lyrics - into one tune. Lots of other favorites - "Purple Rain", "Controversy", "Gold", "She's Always in My Hair". I also love the original version of "Old Friends for Sale" (the pre-horns version), with the original lyrics.

Least favorite track - probably something on Emancipation. I like some stuff on there, but that's the one I hit "FF" the most during. I also never thought much of "Cream". Don't hate it - just don't think it's all that great.

OK, now let's see what everyone else said...

Really? That hurts me a little ;) I guess I was just a fan of NPG and this was one of the first introductions to them.

Re: Favorite PRINCE album and song!

I'm apparently all alone on that one. Both huge Prince fans and those who don't really care for him seem to love that song. It just never did anything for me at all. I loved other songs on that album - just not that one. :)

Re: Favorite PRINCE album and song!

Album - Purple Rain
Song - Little Red Corvette (extended version)

Other favorite songs of his are: The Beautiful Ones, Diamonds and Pearls, The Most Beautiful Girl in the World, Raspberry Beret, Pop Life, I Would Die For You, Lady Cab Driver.

Re: Favorite PRINCE album and song!

Favorite Album? The Purple Rain soundtrack.

Man! That album just kicked ass.

Favorite Songs?

That's hard to nail down because I've liked just about everything I've heard. The other day I found myself listening to Mountains and 7 over and over again. Little Red Corvette still gets me. Pop Life is another one. Nothing Compares 2 U was a nice one as well. The funkier he gets... the happier I am. :)

Re: Favorite PRINCE album and song!

Am I the only one that thought that the albums that were released during his feud with his record label (Warner Bros I think) were pretty awful? I don't think there are many decent tracks on Come, New Power Generation, Chaos and Disorder or New Power Soul. I'm not that keen on Emancipation either. In fact because I didn't like these albums I didn't buy Rave Unto The Joy Fantastic. I felt he was back on track with Musicology and 3121.

No i don't think you're alone in thinking that at all.

Prince plans to release three new albums in 2009

Prince is planning to release three new albums in 2009 without the assistance of a record label, according to an interview with the Los Angeles Times. A "major retailer" is in talks with the artist to release the music physically, while a new Prince Web site will sell it in digital form.

The two new Prince albums are the tentatively titled "MPLSOUND" and "Lotus Flower." He was also heavily involved in an album titled "Elixir" from his protege, Bria Valente. "We got sick of waiting for Sade to make a new album," he said of that project.

As for "MPLSOUND," recorded at Prince's Paisley Park compound in Minneapolis, the Times describes at "electro-flavored" and full of "trippy, experimental pop songs." Q-Tip guests on one track.

"Lotus Flower" is more guitar-driven, an approach Prince says he came to after touring as the guitarist in singer Tamar Davis' band in 2006. Tracks include "Dreamer," a cover of Tommy James and the Shondells' "Crimson & Clover," "Colonized Mind" and "Wall of Berlin."

Prince's last studio album, "Planet Earth," was first released as a free covermount with the U.K. newspaper the Mail on Sunday in July 2007. It was subsequently issued worldwide by Columbia Records.

Re: Prince plans to release three new albums in 20

I love Prince!

Re: Prince plans to release three new albums in 20

I have every prince album ever released. even the rare Black Album. Ive been colecting his music since i was about 16...i must have 42 cds in total..

Prince - Lotusflow3r (new album)

so me being a big Prince Fan i had to get this album, and i can tell you it did not dissapoint me! it's a triple disc collection, featuring 2 new albums by Prince, Lotusflow3r and Mnplsound, and the debut album by Bria Valente, Elixer, a protegee of Prince, which i think is a killer album all on its own.

Colonized Mind is probably My favorite song from this new collection..Great guitar work by Prince..

Who else bought this album? and what is your opinion on it?

Re: Prince - Lotusflow3r (new album)

My Dad bought the album(s) and I listened to them all except the one with Brie Valente or whatever her name is. I wasn't impressed AT ALL. "Lotus Flower" sucked big time, and "MPLSound" wasn't much better, although there were a couple of tracks that were ok. But for the most part this was just one lame effort with awesomely killer packaging. It's a shame the title of the package is "Lotus Flower" when that's probably the weakest album. Well, that's if Brie's effort isn't even worse, which I've heard that it may very well be.
The only thing I really like about the whole thing is the design:

But what's that worth, really?

Yeah, i think Princes most recent work over the last ten years or so is an aquired taste, its not for everybody..

Re: Prince - Lotusflow3r (new album)

Why would he package someone else's album with his own? Well I guess it's technically a Prince album too since it says it's produced by him.

Re: Prince Fans

I can't miss an opportunity to give props to Prince

"There are many kings, but there is only one Prince"

Prince!

Anyone else have a huge crush on Prince?

Never was a fan of his music and he can be a little goofy but for years and years I'll hesitate and suffer just a little if Delirious comes on the radio.
