Recently, I stumbled across Youtube videos of F2M transgendered individuals undergoing hormone therapy. I am a gay male who was born biologically male, but I find these really fascinating for some reason. Something about the simple biology behind these incredibly pronounced changes is really interesting. The magic of video allows you to see the several-year-long transformation in a matter of minutes, and the gradual development of secondary sexual characteristics is strangely mind-blowing. It's amazing what a simple polycyclic hydrocarbon (a.k.a., testosterone) can do, simply by means of signal transduction thereby altering cellular metabolism and protein synthesis.
It also brings up interesting questions for me about the scientifically simple nature of the gender binary. That this one class of organic chemical compounds is the determining factor between what make me gay vs. straight -- whom I find attractive vs. whom I don't feel any physical pull towards. I don't mean to objectify these guys but I have to admit, they made me think about how majorly physical (as in the philosophical concept of physicalism) the mechanisms of sex actually are. As a head-in-the-clouds romantic, it's both disconcerting and intriguing to see how, before the transformation, I can acknowledge that they're very sweet guys, but I feel no physical attraction to them; after the transformation, there's something there for me that wasn't there before.
I hope these guys don't mind me posting these videos on this forum, but I liked these guys' transitions a lot:

Early stages of testosterone therapy (7 weeks). He actually seemed pretty masculine to begin with, but the change was really pronounced after a year on T:
