Interesting exchange between alpha and bankside!

Bankside are you an atheist who's studied the bible and declared it fallacy or declared it fallacy without study?

I've read it. I've read a bit of stuff about eastern philosophies like Dé & Dao and all that. I've read the Book of the Dead from Egyptian mythology.

All fascinating, occasional bits replete with wisdom, and unconvincing as an indicator of a non-mythical divinity.

No big news that serious sexual hang-ups and puritanism has been a defining characteristic of the old 'desert religions' of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Sex has always been the big no- no! And its not just gay sex. Only celibate males can be saved anyway:


Revelation 14:3-4
14:3 and they were singing a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and the elders. No one was able to learn the song except the one hundred and forty-four thousand who had been redeemed from the earth.

14:4 These are the ones who have not defiled themselves with women, for they are virgins. These are the ones who follow the Lamb wherever he goes. These were redeemed from humanity as firstfruits to God and to the Lamb

...only 144,000 people will be saved when the world ends, and all of those will be male virgins! Only 144,000 celibate men will go to God's Glory! (Those who were not "defiled with women...who never had sex with women")

Bible literalism can be so ...enlightening.

I'm a big fan of biblical literalism, not because I don't appreciate the subtlety of metaphor, but because when I have heard anyone expound on the esoteric meaning of scripture it sounds like "...And now we are just going to make things up as we go along so this stuff doesn't seem quite so crazy/barbaric/self-contradictory..."

I can discount the bible literally and "interpretively" but the engineer in me prefers the simplicity of actually taking the bible at its word when you decide whether it is valid or not. The poet in me just would rather read other artists.

The 144,000 is referring to certian people near the end of this time frame that will be preachers/ministers/evangelists/priests/pastors and they are not part of all of the others that God has already redeemed. The 144,000 will be here during the Great Tribulation and they will continue to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ despite all the chaos that will be everywhere. These men have not yet been appointed yet, just look at Revelations 7 and it will tell you this.

These individuals are separate from all of God's chosen ones and reserved for this dispensation of time on earth. They are to play an important role of the continual preaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and will be endowed with a spiritual protection from all of the coming tribulations and wrath from God. Pretty much all the other people that followed God will have either been killed or decided to switch sides and work for Satan. The Great Multitude are the slain saints that came out of the great tribulation.

Just know that the role of the 144,000 are different than the role of all of us. We are still redeemed.

I believe that the book of revelation was a warning to Jews of the impending destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD and the persecution of the christian church. Without the destruction of Jerusalem and persecution of christians, the message of Jesus would not have spread throughout the entire known world. God's Kingdom was established on earth and Satan destroyed at the time Christ was crucified and died.

It's not as easy to do as a gay Christian. It hurts me but I don't want to suffer later when I can at least try and live for God. It's a constant struggle for me. Everyday it is like life has dealt me a big bag of crap. It's not easy...

For the sake of letting you know beforehand, this is not a so called "flame" thread for those of you who take it as such.

I'm sorry Ambrocious - but this is clearly a "Flame" thread.

I would never dream of joining as a member to a Bible Study Web site just to state my view that that the whole Religion is wrong and a force for Evil.

You seem to have no such reservations about joining a major "Gay" site and telling us all that we are evil doers and should repent while there is still time.

I think my instinctive response to your thread is probably too kind - so i will amend this to "Go Forth and don't Multiply".

I am surprised that your Flame against Gays has not been deleted - however I do not agree with opinions being supressed (including even yours) - so I hope you will appreciate a robust response

Just to remind even Asiandream, that this is a "No Flame" zone. Anyway, for those who truly do profess to still be a Christian; here's a website reconmended by a very devout Catholic str8 friend of mine: www.couragerc.org, please check it out and let us know what your thoughts are. Thank you.

Since you ask, the website is a hypocritical and ignorant disgrace.

The Church banned gay Catholic groups like Dignity from its premises some time ago because, God forbid, the possible reconciliation of gay sexual activity in a loving relationship with the Church's teaching. Instead, it set up gay outreach efforts, like that reflected in the website above, to minister to gays as if they were lepers, who need to find spiritual solace in, and make the best of, their lot.

Inevitably, this put into practice, the intellectually dishonest teaching of the current hierarchy that gay sex is sinful, but being gay is OK, as if gay sex (actual and/or imagined) isn't at least some part of being gay.

Obviously, this inconsistent nonsense works for professional sinner-penitents (for whom repeated restraint and confession makes the "vice" that much the sweeter).

But I suspect that, for the many gay Catholics, who believe, as a matter of informed conscience that the current hierarchy has got it wrong. this irrational teaching, and the websites and out-reach that go along with it, are no better than any of the gay cure therapies out there.

Even those reparative therapies, as phony as they are, acknowledge that few people need to get through life with their balls growing bluer and bluer in the name of Christ.

Roll on education and change.

Your story shows a conflict between who you really are and what you've learned you should be.

The religious elements of your experience pass my by - as I've reached the conclusion that no religion is true.

One paradox is that your idea of what the "The God Of Abraham" expects from you is based on a very narrow interpretation of the bible. There are many guys here who see absolutely no conflict between being Gay and being Christian.
