Flight from Kuala Lumpur disappears from sky at 35,000 feet on way to Beijing

I have seen pics and footage of the hubbub and gnashing of teeth going on among the Chinese relatives. I do not understand it. The plane disappeared weeks ago. What was expected? And now there is a "closure" tour to where the plane didn't go down, perhaps to see debris that has yet to be identified - if any can be seen at all.

Is this a Chinese thing?

(And I don't understand CNN's maudlin coverage either.)

An unusual twist:

MH370 downs Aussie film

THE DISAPPEARANCE of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 has had major repercussions for an Australian film in preproduction.

Deep Water, a follow-up to the hit horror movie Bait 3D, tells the story of a flight that mysteriously crashes into the ocean on its way to China…

This reminds me of several films that were edited after 9/11

Seeing the twin towers for years after the attacks drew strong emotions.

I am still startled when I see pics or footage with the Twin Towers standing.

It is awkward, yeah, when you see old movies with them in it especially.

Planes can be so destructive. They run on enough power to light up a small town, and carry enough fuel to melt down the largest buildings on Earth.

Did you read the link? Apparently this kind of battery has just ignited before.

I didn't read it, but I'm not surprised. Many a cell phone, lap top, car... has been recalled due to faulty batteries igniting.

I was just curious weather it was faulty manufacturing and would have happened regardless, or if being in the plane could have had some adverse affects on it (pressure).

I just hope that whatever happened it rendered the passengers, not just the pilots, unconscious or dead. The thought of riding in a doomed plane for 6 or so hours is absolutely terrifying.

I imagine the passengers were pretty scared at the end.

One comment solemnly assured everyone that it's cosmic rays at altitude setting them off.

I can believe it!

Cosmic Rays are what converted those astronauts into the Fantastic Four. Those Cosmic Rays aren't anything to be messed with!!!

A debris field with over a hundred objects was just spotted. The number of objects sets apart other reported sightings by its sheer number.

The litigation nation is also the first to sue.

Is that the patch that ships are supposed to reach today, or is this a new one?

Airplane crew members have an increased risk of cancer.

Yes, but the Li-ion batteries don't seem to have a statistically significant higher rate of spontaneous combustion in airplanes than on the ground.

Too bad we can't have mercury batteries. They produce a constant power output until the very end.

There's something new, a sort of cross between a battery and capacitor -- I read about one made of something like silver nanotubes and carbon molecule-sheets that charges fast like a capacitor and discharges at whatever rate you want! They speculated about batteries for electric cars such that you could drive from San Diego to Salt Lake City, stop an hour for a meal, then drive on to Chicago, eventually crossing the country on just four charges and no more than two hours total charging time.

Such a battery/capacitor would be able to power a black box for a year.
