It's a symptom of something else that has happened in American society. There was something that has been termed "The Greatest Generation"- people who had an interest in public service and in social justice Christian teachings.
That's been replaced by "The Me Generation" and the prosperity gospel Christians.
And it's not about Republican vs Democrats. Both parties are addicted to power and it takes money to hold on to power.
They politicians that we're electing aren't motivated by "public good". If they were in it for the public good, they wouldn't be doing things like passing legislation to allow mentally ill people to buy guns (
HJ40-passed a year ago today on 15-Feb-2017) or passing legislation to partially repeal the Americans With Disabilities Act (
HR620 passed the House today - 15-Feb-2018).
They're all in it for the money- it just so happens that the gun lobby gives more money to the Republican party. The politicians aren't pulling the strings... it's the people with the money who are pulling the strings.
But money doesn't equal votes. It takes ill-informed citizens to go to the voting booths to vote for these guys. We have no one to blame but ourselves- either because we vote for these guileless politicians or because we stay home and don't vote at all.
Ya think?
