Re: Westboro Baptist Church coming to my city tommorrow

They aren't allowed in Canada, either.

Last I heard, they weren't banned from entering Canada, but their protests would violate hate speech laws and they would be arrested.

They're not banned, but they have learnt that their 'constitutional rights' cease to exist at the border and Fred knows that he WILL be arrested if he steps foot across it. (He just can't seem to keep his mouth shut.) When a group of them came over (sans Freddie-boy) to protest Tim McLean's funeral (the young man murdered on a Greyhound bus a few years ago) because of Canada's same-sex marriage law, they were met with such opposition at the airport that they turned around and went back home. I don't believe they've been back since.

They know their hatred is not welcome here, nor will it be tolerated. Even most of their placards would constitute 'hate speech'.

Re: Westboro Baptist Church coming to my city tommorrow

show up with more people and drown them out. I love when that happens. Makes them look pathetic. Happened in town i grew up in - Omaha NE. They were outnumbered by a large group of kids from Westside High school who out shouted them (it was over the school putting on "The Laramie Project."

Re: Westboro Baptist Church coming to my city tommorrow

The best thing I can imagine doing to them would be getting several church choirs to surround them, with their backs to the clan, and sing the Hallelujah Chorus and Christmas carols, leaving no moment unfilled with music.

Re: Westboro Baptist Church coming to my city tommorrow

What I'd love to see done to them is....

Step 1: acquire a battery-power air compressor.
Step 2: add to it an accessory which allows the compressed air to pump liquid.
Step 3: mix an extra-thick batch of Jello, and keep it liquid
Step 4: find their van
Step 5: remove the valve stem from one tire; pump in a quart of jello; reinflate the tire.

I the van is totally unattended, return two hours later, push the van forward two feet, and repeat on the other tire on that side.

By the time they return to their van, they will have two tires on one side which are so off-balance from solid blocks of Jello inside that they won't be able to drive over about 20mph safely.

Re: Westboro Baptist Church coming to my city tommorrow

The were a no-show in Syracuse - but the counter "protest" wasn't.

Gotta love it when that happens.

It appears Americans have finally said, "We're not gonna take it anymore." The fizz has gone out of the Phelps' pop. They're not used to opposition.

Re: Westboro Baptist Church coming to my city tommorrow

We damn Yankees in Upstate have upSTAGED them a few times.

They were coming to protest at the funeral of a soldier in the Southern tier earlier this year - the Road Warriors(??) motorcycle group came out in force to out sound them.

Most areas are also passing 1000' minimum distances for such activities around funerals, so that also reduces their impact.

They are pimples on the ass of true religion and moral society.

Re: Westboro Baptist Church coming to my city tommorrow

Well, the world IS flat, so it's possible.
They DO push the envelope a bit.

Re: Westboro Baptist Church coming to my city tommorrow

They didn't show up but as others have pointed out, the protesters ready to greet them did.

Regular jello wouldn't work well, unless you did it in a state that experiences winter, as it doesn't set well at room temperature. Fortunately there are jello substitutes that will set at any temperature. One could also puncture the tire with a large needle and fill it full of concrete.

Landers,
We have been discussing Syracuse, NY, WINNER of the Golden Snow Ball Award of I-90 Upstate NY cities, years running, in DECEMBER.

It's 34F in Rochester at the moment - they are about the same, maybe a wee bit colder.

Does that qualify?

Yes, but what if they protest in a warmer state, like California (the southern part anyway)? That's when we'll need our concrete/jello substitute.

There's a compound contractors use when a concrete floor isn't quite level. It's very liquid, but sets fast and solid under the right conditions:

1. exposed to air, and
2. given a jolt

These attributes allow it to spread out and level itself nicely, and when the contractor is satisfied, he just thumps the floor and it seizes up.

It would be, I think, perfect for tires -- squirt it in, pump the tire back up, and the moment they put the vehicle in gear, it turns to rock.

Of course you couldn't get the different tires off-balanced differently, but no scheme is perfect.

EEK -- a kibitzer here said spray the tires with high-polish finish so they'd have no traction. I think that's a bit of endangerment, myself.
That's what I get for telling someone what I'm writing about. :grrr:

Smear dogshit on the grille. If they have an exterior intake for air conditioning.....

Re: Westboro Members On Russell Brand's Show Brand X

I really wish the media would stop paying attention to the WBC. Not because I think it would make them go away but because attention is what they seek. They don't care what kind of attention they get as long as they are able to get their message out. Giving them attention is playing into their game.

Re: Westboro Members On Russell Brand's Show Brand X

jv2.0, can you recommend the highlights in this ten minute video.

Re: Westboro Members On Russell Brand's Show Brand X

I think hearing their message is important. Not that I agree with them, the point being, they have read their bible in a mistranslated fashion but without the sugar frosting that makes common christianity palatable. This is the ugliness of their religion and the bigotry of their views. When you hear the roman catholic church, some evangelicals, southern baptist churches, and all the media savvy trickster ministries with multi-dollar money raking bible thumping anti-gay rhetoric, WBC is the epitome of the hate these institutions uphold. As followers of these religious sects, you can either take their word for it, or seek spirituality elsewhere. If your sexuality is not a choice, your religion certainly is.

.
Russell Brand is really smart.
He sounds like a lawyer to me:

Re: Westboro Members On Russell Brand's Show Brand X

It's even worse when you realise that their Bible has been mistranslated as well. All the verses they use against us don't actually mean the same thing in the original text. It's all made up.
