Gay Marriage Fails In New York

Gee there are a lot of delusions in this thread.

Anyway, I have to agree with those who say the legal acceptance of homosexuality will take sometime. America is very hetero-loving, and I think it will remain that way for a while. There are too many older/traditional based politicians. Religion has been used to teach people 'the truth' about homosexuality and for some it sticks. So who is up for breaking tradition? Most likely none of these older conservative type folks.

  1. “I cannot prevent anyone from getting angry, or mad, or frustrated. I can only hope that they’ll turn that anger and frustration and madness into something positive, so that two, three, four, five hundred will step forward, so the gay doctors will come out, the gay lawyers, the gay judges, gay bankers, gay architects … I hope that every professional gay will say ‘enough’, come forward and tell everybody, wear a sign, let the world know. Maybe that will help.” Harvey Milk, 1978

Well, Flashforward, I'd personally rather be hated for who I am than loved for being someone I'm not.

But I'm an asshole.

No, you're not, you're just more ethical than some of the pussies in this thread. We need more queer militant values like this in order to gain respect and dignity. I'm tired of hearing fucking sob stories about how hard it was for so and so to come out. Apparently they disagree, they'd rather be loved and have good relationships with social fascists than be out and proud about who they are. Quite frankly, when I was come out, I figured anyone (including parents or friends) that had a problem with it wasn't worth having in my life. True, it may not change the mind of whoever you know if you come out to them, but that spirit of confidence and outness is what we need. We aren't going to get our rights by asking nicely.

Sing it, brother. Gay equality was won in Canada not by the people hiding in the corners but by those of us who marched, demonstrated, campaigned, worked and yes... came out to our families and friends to make it happen.

It took YEARS for my family to totally come to accept me but they did it because I never backed down.

none of those.

I'm "right."

It would make sense for two reasons.

1) More would probably be fighting/keeping things in check

and

2) Its harder to oppress a large number.

Right now even untied we are separated by city, county, state and national laws. Once more come out those government “boundaries’ will slowly disappear.

Case in point Salem is the capital of Oregon. Next to us is the city of Keizer at about ¼ the size of Salem. Awhile back Salem passed some strong GLBT laws protecting us from losing our jobs, etc. The city of Keizer has no such laws. Both cities are fairly conservative, but with pressure from our small GLBT community in Salem with help from GLBT friendly people it became harder to ignore everything that was going on.

The more noise that gets made, the harder it is to say its nothing at all.

and how exactly will people coming out lead to laws protecting us?

It's always worked before... It's a lot harder to hurt us when you know us.

As more and more people came out, THAT is when laws started to get changed. As more of us made ourselves known, started to live out in the open, we gained at least a little political clout.

No, we haven't gotten marriage yet. You think in the 50s when the vast majority of gay people were hidden that California would vote 49% in favor of gay marriage? Because I don't.

That isn't true. Ask anyone who's ever been shunned/battered/victimized upon it being found out that they were gay.

Oh for fuck's sake.

I'm not talking about coming out to mommy and daddy.

the more we live out in society... the more we're going to effect change. People have to see us, know us, feel that we're their friends and neighbors.

"Shunned?"

Sorry, but if someone is going to "shun" me for what I am, they weren't worth knowing anyway.

"Battered?"

Yeah.. that happens. Sucks. But I'm not talking about coming out to homophobic parents while you're living with them.

"Victimized?"

have you seen the news? Our rights are being voted away from us, we're being blamed for fucking Hurricane Katrina, we're being denied the right to adopt, being fired from our jobs.

Dude, we're already being victimized and it's because not enough of us have stood up and said "enough."

Okay, I've held this in for two days but...

There is something wrong with this country

First California and now New York? My favorite state? This needs to be written into the constitution. I don't get how our society has devolved to this point in history...#-o

I mean Canada and many European nations have legalized gay marriage yet we move one step forward and two steps back.

Would this have happened if there were more women in the senate? Why is politics such an old boys club (with many closeted Republicans I might add) anyway?

Absolutely ridiculous! I may have to move to Spain if this continues.

elvin1, you got it. Nicer weather, I can speak Spanish and Europe doesn't have as much oppressive politics as the US. iMe gusta Europa!

Also, I should add why aren't there PSA's for gay/human rights on billboards in Times Square, on TV, etc... One of the reasons is we value corporations over people here.

And we somehow need to change the way we are viewed by society. Many people still have idiotic notions/ stereotypes of how gay people are.

I just don't think we need to be married. I just don't think the country is ready for it now and besides it's just kind of weird. If I had to vote on it, I'd vote against it.

And yes I'm gay. I think Robert Pattinson is sexy, so I guess that means I'm gay.

If Robert Pattinson wanted to marry me........ I'd still vote no on gay marriage. I'm sorry guys, I just don't think it's for us. Besides, I like being with someone because I "want" to, not because I "have" to. That's what Susan Sarandon said about why she never married Tim Robbins. We should move on and complain about other things. You see I just don't worry about it. I think about stuff like: Gee.... I bet my dick is bigger than Justin Timberlake's.

Got it.

So you're just trolling because NOBODY without the name "Palin" is as stupid as what you just posted.

First the mormons.......... http://www.justusboys.com/forum/showthread.php?t=239277
then the blacks ..............http://www.justusboys.com/forum/showthread.php?t=239077
then the Catholic........... http://www.justusboys.com/forum/showthread.php?t=272427
then the older voters...... http://www.justusboys.com/forum/showthread.php?t=283963
Now it is the closeted.
Who is next?
Because "... blaming is easier. Blaming means you don't have to fight. Blaming means it isn't your own fault.
Blaming is good."
To those that are reading this thread and not responding and those that are responding and thinking us mean gays and mean straight bitches are saying you're obligated to come out:

Read the thread again please.

In a perfect world if everyone could come out easily we'd all be better off. But we don't live in that world. We live in this one. It is filled with hate, and homophobia and nasty people. No one here is saying that you need to put yourself in danger to be out and proud. We are simply wishing it was that much easier.

We are also angry that we are in this position to begin with. We are trying to figure out a solution to the hate. That's all. This is not a call to arms for everyone to scream out "I'm GAY and I don't care who likes it or not!" We are throwing around opinions. Nothing more.

Bull!

Instead of wondering who to blame...shouldn't we be asking what is our next battle?....or what do we do next?...or how to win the next vote for gay marriage?
Nah, blaming is easier. Blaming means you don't have to fight. Blaming means it isn't your own fault.

Blaming is good.

Great post. I agree 100%. The fight carries on...

This is what you said. Agreeing with SilverWolf. Stop blaming people in the closet. This is a battle that will need to be fought by those of us who are out and proud. We need to help our gay brothers and sisters on their hard journey of coming out of the closet. Instead of condeming them for being in the closet.

I think you guys should wait until after Jan. 11th, 2010 (barring a postponement) to tear each other apart. :D

Let's see the result of this Prop 8 federal trial first.

Tea Break!

*pours out*

Indeed !

C'mon. Share with us. Where did you learn how to talk out of your asshole?

Glen Beck?

I'm glad to see that some people in here have backtracked and are not saying you must COME OUT NOW regardless of any consequences or specific issues in your personal situation. That is the distinct impression I was getting from some of the earlier posts in this thread.

I think we can all agree that yes it would be easier and better for all gays if everyone did that. But realistically we have to realize the world is more complex than that.
