Gay Marriage Updates By State

"It really must be an uncomfortable situation for the cons to see so many people around them accepting us when they are not ready for the change."

Yup. It must suck to realize the world doesn't totally belong to you anymore.

Starting from the basic truth of self ownership, all interactions among humans are contractual relationships. These contracts may be written or verbal, or even unstated -- assumed. The problem with the elephangelicals is that they have inherited the assumption that there is an unstated contract that the U.S. is Christian.

So while everyone else is operating on the fact that there has never been such a contract, they are reacting as though they've been attacked, in the form of a violation of contract. To them, this contract has been around at least since the "First Great Awakening" -- when in fact there is no evidence that anyone even considered that might be the case until the Second Great Awakening; then it became a myth invented as a tool to call the unchurched "back" to God. This is taken up today as a call to "take back" the country -- except that they're fighting for a myth.

What really terrifies them is not that perhaps the world doesn't totally belong to them any more, but that it in fact never did at all.

Of course they did.

The left wing in the west is on our side.

I'd say educated people are on our side...

except that some of my mom's friends who are very educated are so brainwashed. I read this morning some new stuff sent by a (very confused) Roman Catholic reactionary, claiming that no religion or society has ever approved of homosexuality... after I've sent her links and citations before. The amazing thing is that she thinks that Vatican II was rebellion against "the true Faith", but she references the Catechism of the Catholic Church in an argument against homosexuality! -- and that document was the result of work begun by Vatican II.

People who believe in liberty honestly, are on our side.

I don't believe you are really that ignorant of the disparity in support for marriage equality between the right and left wings.

But just in case you are, which would astonish me given your knowledge of the issue, please refer to the charts for heaven's sake.

If you say that the educated bunch are for us, then that means the left is more educated than the right, which by the way is true.

As far as education levels go in terms of political party affiliation, people with a Bachelor's Degree tend to be more conservative. However, graduate education levels skyrocket among those who are more liberal (most in conservative fields such as business do not require graduate education).

Looks like Gary Johnson went to the dark side. Republicans theme 2011: creating the dark ages.

When I spoke with him last year, Johnson said gay marriage should be up to states, but that at the federal level they should have all the same legal benefits and privileges -- thus federal civil union recognition of all state marriages or civil unions. As for employment, I think that deep down he really believes that employers should be able to hire or not as they please, for whatever reasons they please... not surprising, since he sees corporations as people because they're composed of people -- I couldn't get him to see that the directors are there to pursue the interests of ALL the owners (shareholders), not just the richest ones. <sigh>
