NORTH CAROLINA’S GAY MARRIAGE BAN IS MISSING KEY WORDS

The GOP’s rush to place on the ballot a constitutional amendment outlawing same-sex marriage has left off a key part of the original bill which “clarifies that the ban doesn’t prohibit businesses from offering benefits to domestic partners.” That phrasing won’t be appearing on the ballot — a change Democrats didn’t notice “until days after the legislature approved the marriage referendum.” “That sentence was crucial in some legislators’ minds about why they were willing to vote for it (and) pretty crucial to the business community,” Rep. Rick Glazier (D) says. “To say you can have half of this constitutional amendment with half of it gone … makes no sense whatsoever.”

Yes. They are seeking a longer stay because they fear the appeals court will not be able to review it by Sept 30th.

SAN FRANCISCO—The sponsors of California's same-sex marriage want a federal judge in San Francisco to put the brakes on unsealing video recordings of last year's high-profile trial on the constitutionality of voter-approved Proposition 8.
Lawyers for the coalition of religious and conservative groups that qualified the ban for the November 2008 ballot asked U.S. District Chief Judge James Ware late Friday to stay his decision to make the recordings public on at the end of the month.
They say they want an appeals court to review Ware's decision and that if the judge sticks with his original timetable, the recordings will be disseminated before that can happen.
Ware ruled Monday that the public has a right to access the recordings just like any other court record even though the judge who presided at the trial said they were for his own personal use

Miami Republican, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, likely only one to back repeal of DOMA

Robert Wright is another strong possibility (elected in 2010 and represents the Syracuse, NY area). He is the only other Republican member of the House LGBT Equality Caucus and one of only 6 to vote against the bill to reafirm DOMA in the U.S. military. Mary Bono Mack is another, if nothing else that her district includes Palm Springs.
